RACISM, STRAIGHT UP: 68% Back Proof of Citizenship for Voting.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 68% of Likely U.S. Voters want Congress to enact a law requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote in national elections. Just 22% disagree. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Congress on Wednesday passed a stop-gap funding measure to avert a partial government shutdown; Republicans tried and failed to include an amendment that would have required proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.

However, 62% of voters would have supported a government shutdown to pass the proof-of-citizenship measure, including 48% who would Strongly Support a shutdown over the issue.

You might think that kind of overwhelming support would lend some backbone to the House GOP — alas.

MEANWHILE, OVER AT VODKAPUNDIT: So Now Conservatives Are Evil for Liking — [Checks Notes] — Attractive Women? “The story begins, as these things always seem to do, with Sydney Sweeney’s breasts.”

UPDATE (From Ed): Prior to their war on aesthetics, and then their inability to define what a woman is, this used to a bipartisan issue. As P.J. O’Rourke wrote in his classic 1991 book Parliament of Whores, after attending a 1989 Housing Now! rally on the DC Mall to combat homelessness:

A few mainstream politicians paid lip service to the aims of the march, but they kept an arm’s length between themselves and the chief Housing Now! organizers, who were Donna Brazile, the former Dukakis campaign aide who accused George Bush of having a girlfriend, and Mitch Snyder, the perennial homeless advocate and incessant protest-faster who would commit suicide a few months later, thereby obtaining an eternal home, and a warm one at that.

Best of all, there were hardly any beautiful women at the rally. I saw a journalist friend of mine on the Mall, and he and I pursued this line of inquiry as assiduously as our happy private lives allow. Practically every female at the march was a bowser. “We’re not being sexist here,” my friend insisted. “It’s not that looks matter per se. It’s just that beautiful women are always on the cutting edge of social trends. Remember how many beautiful women were in the anti-war movement twenty years ago? In the yoga classes fifteen years ago? At the discos ten years ago? On Wall Street five years ago? Where the beautiful women are is where the country is headed,” said my friend. “And this,” he looked around him, “isn’t it.”

Flash-forward to a 21st century that would make the Weimar Republic recoil in horror. Decline is a choice, America.

THAT AGED WELL:

The Biden-Harris administration had spent a couple of years ignoring the Abraham Accords, boosting Iran, showing enough daylight between DC and Jerusalem to cause skin cancer, and expecting the Middle East to remain quiet.

Unless war was what Biden-Harris wanted, that is. If so, the way things are going can’t be what they’d hoped for.

RELIGION OF PEACE UPDATE: Machete-armed man with Palestinian flag wounds 31 in Germany with arson, ramming attacks.

A 41-year-old Syrian national wounded 31 people, including two children who were left in critical condition, in arson attacks on Saturday in the German city of Essen, according to police and media reports from Sunday morning.

At around 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, the man set fire to a residential building on Altenessener Strasse, at the corner of Pielsticker Strasse, according to Bild. He later drove a few streets over, where he set fire to a second residence.

The fire service said that 31 people were wounded in the arson attacks, while Essen police placed the number at 30.

Tagesschau reported that people threw children from windows onto cushions on the street to escape the flames.

After setting off the fires, the man reportedly drove to Katernberger Strasse, where he rammed his car into a store before reversing and ramming into the building again.

There are nearly one million Syrians in Germany — about one out of 20 Syrians.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Kamala Harris’s Border Kabuki Isn’t Going to Sway Anyone. “Harris was in Douglas, AZ. Fun fact: I briefly lived in Douglas in the early 1970s, just 12 blocks from the border. Things were a bit messy even back then, but we didn’t have to worry about the cartel people traipsing through our back yards.”

BLUE STATE BLUES: In Proposing Move From Delaware To Nevada, This Corporation Cites The Burden Of MFW.

Earlier this week, The Trade Desk, Inc. filed preliminary proxy materials for a special meeting of stockholders. The purpose of the meeting is to approve the reincorporation of the corporation from the State of Delaware to the State of Nevada by conversion. This particular proxy statement caught my eye because it specifically calls out several Delaware court decisions:

“The increasingly litigious environment facing corporations with controlling stockholders has created unpredictability in decision-making and has started to impede our ability to act quickly. For example, the Delaware Supreme Court recently determined in In re Match Group, Inc. Derivative Litigation, 315 A.3d 446 (Del. 2024), that all transactions involving a controlling stockholder receiving a non-ratable benefit are presumptively subject to entire fairness review (i.e., Delaware’s most stringent standard) unless the transaction complies with the strictures set out in Kahn v. M&F Worldwide Corporation, 88 A.3d 635 (Del. 2014) (“MFW”). The Match Group decision confirmed what corporate and legal communities had viewed in recent years as an expansion in Delaware of the application of MFW, a case originally establishing the requirements that must be followed to lower the standard of review for freeze-out merger transactions between a controlled corporation and its controlling stockholder from entire fairness to the less-stringent business judgment standard. In Tornetta v. Musk, 310 A.3d 430 (Del. Ch. 2024), a Delaware Chancery court found that an incentive stock award to the company’s co-founder and CEO, which was approved by the company’s stockholders in 2018, was not “entirely fair” to stockholders. That court rescinded the award, determining that the co-founder and CEO was a “controller” even though he only held 21.9% of the company’s stock because he “wielded the maximum influence that a manager can wield over a company” and “occupied the most powerful trifecta of roles within a corporation-CEO, chair, and founder.” Following the court’s rescission decision, the company’s stockholders ratified the CEO’s incentive stock award in 2024, affirming their desire from 2018 to keep their co-founder and CEO incentivized.”

Trade Desk goes on to explain that despite its efforts to satisfy MFW, it was nonetheless sued in Delaware based on allegations that it failed to follow the requisite process, that its independent committee members were conflicted, and that its disclosures were supposedly deficient.

Delaware spent a century or two building a reputation as a safe place to headquarter your company — and reaped the benefits. Now they’ll reap the whirlwind.

PRESIDENTING IS HARD WORK — NO FOOLIN’, JACK:

FLORIDA, MAN:

Competence shouldn’t be this hard to find.

WELL, HE’S RIGHT: Netanyahu calls Mideast conflicts choice between ‘blessing or a curse,’ warns about Israel’s ‘long arm.’ “Netanyahu framed the issue as a choice between ‘a blessing or a curse,’ with Iran’s “unremitting aggression” as the ‘curse’ against the ‘blessing’ of reconciliation between Arab nations and Israel.”

Reminder: Team Biden chose to boost Iran and let Trump’s Israel-Arab nations Abraham Accords whither.

HEH: I Say, This ‘Diddy’ Fellow Seems Like A Bit Of A Scoundrel. “This is a moment for celebration. For so long, P. Diddy has gotten away with heinous crimes that tons of people knew about, from car bombs to assaults to sex crimes. It’s like P. Diddy was going for some kind of high score, trying to catch every possible crime like a Pokemon.”

“That tons of people knew about.”

“Everybody knew” about Epstein, too.

At least five senior Hezbollah leaders are believed to have been killed but the fate of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah isn’t yet known.

IS ANYBODY BUYING HER FLIP-FLOPS? Harris Tiptoes Away From Electric Vehicle Stance as Trump Seizes an Opening in Michigan.

Harris’s campaign, in the weeks after the vice president became the party’s nominee, said she doesn’t support an EV mandate. It pointed to her casting of the tiebreaking vote for the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which provided subsidies and tax credits for EVs and created clean energy jobs in the state. Her supporters note that Trump risks alienating workers whose livelihoods depend on EVs.
…
Harris, however, did support a mandate five years ago when she first ran for president, reflecting the politics of her home state of California, which has a waiver to the Clean Air Act and has routinely pushed the federal government to enact more stringent rules. In the Senate, Harris co-sponsored legislation in May 2019 that would have created a federal standard demanding 50% of new vehicle sales be zero-emission in 2030 with the requirements ramping up to 100% by 2040.

This kid doesn’t buy it:

CALIFORNIA: Female Inmate’s Parole Revoked After Objecting To A Law That Allows Men To Take Over Women’s Prisons.

Quinn endured an uncomfortable invasion of her privacy on two occasions by a male inmate identifying as a transgender woman. In response, she filed a grievance against SB 132 – the Transgender Respect, Agency, and Dignity Act. This California law passed in 2020 allows fully intact men to be housed in female-only prisons by simply declaring a non-male gender.

Applying the situational skills taught by prison instructors and self-help groups when in alarming or dangerous circumstances, Cathleen Quinn filed a report on the male who carried out the inappropriate bathroom behavior. After filing this grievance, Quinn was hit with a wrongful verdict of “institutional misconduct,” ultimately causing her to lose her chance to return home. She was just three weeks away from parole when the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation took away her parole date, leaving her behind bars for another five years.
