HMM: Marco Rubio’s Plans for 2028 Might Surprise You. “Last but not least, Lara asked him what’s been on the minds of many of us lately: What are his plans for 2028? His response? He thinks JD Vance should be the Republican nominee: ‘I think if he decides he wants to do that, and I think he’s doing a great job as vice president. He’s a close friend, and I hope he intends to do it. I know it’s kind of early.'”

WOEING: ‘He’s showing up.’ Things are getting better at Boeing under CEO Ortberg. Can he keep it going?
Ortberg, a longtime aerospace executive and an engineer whom the manufacturer plucked from retirement to fix the problem-addled company last year, is set this week to outline significant progress since he took the helm a year ago. Boeing reports quarterly results and gives its outlook on Tuesday.
So far, investors are liking what they’ve been seeing. Shares of the company are up more than 30% so far this year.
Wall Street analysts expect the aircraft manufacturer to halve its second-quarter losses from a year ago when it reports. Ortberg told investors in May that the manufacturer expects to generate cash in the second half of the year. Boeing’s aircraft production has increased, and its airplane deliveries just hit the highest level in 18 months.
It’s a shift for Boeing, whose successive leaders missed targets on aircraft delivery schedules, certifications, financial goals and culture changes that frustrated investors and customers alike, while rival Airbus pulled ahead.
“The general agreement is that the culture is changing after decades of self-inflicted knife wounds,” said Richard Aboulafia, managing director at AeroDynamic Advisory, an aerospace consulting firm.
Faster, please — we really can’t afford to lose Boeing.
KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: I Hope Trump Can Resuscitate Accountability in the Political Class. “I don’t think we’re going to see Obama perp-walked, but I would like to see Hillary Clinton’s already-tarnished legacy take a humiliating legal hit or two. If Brennan is the most vulnerable, the Dems will gladly offer him up if it will keep Barack and Hillary safe. My big hope at the moment is that the “Brennan as sacrificial lamb” ploy won’t save Hillary from, at the very least, some humiliation and embarrassment.”
China, which has the world’s second-largest economy after the United States, has in recent years moved from competitor to economic adversary, engaging in a “soft” warfare targeting U.S. cyber and infrastructure systems, says Georgia GOP Rep. Austin Scott.
“They are no longer an aggressive economic competitor,” Scott said on a recent “John Solomon Reports” podcast. “They chose to become an adversary. They have gotten away with it for the last four years. They have embedded themselves through our cyber [and] our infrastructure systems.”
Scott says the forays particularly target the U.S. agricultural system and pharmaceutical industry, and also argues that China has done so effectively – in plain sight.
“They have been very smart about how they, in the open market, have purchased companies that, whether it be pharmaceuticals or food supply necessities that we have in the United States of America,” Scott said. “They’ve been very smart at how they’ve operated, both in the open market and in the criminal arena.”
Last month, Just the News reported that two Chinese scientists were charged with smuggling a fungus called “Fusarium graminearum” into the U.S. The fungus, although not deadly to humans, represents a potential threat to grain crops.

THE DOGE BOYS ARE STILL HARD AT WORK: DOGE AI Tool to Target 100K Federal Rules for Elimination.
The “DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool,” developed by engineers brought into government under Elon Musk’s DOGE initiative, is programmed to scan about 200,000 existing federal rules and flag those that are either outdated or not legally required.
According to a PowerPoint presentation dated July 1 that was obtained by the newspaper, the tool estimates that approximately 100,000 of those rules could be eliminated, primarily through automation with minimal human input. The projection claims this could save trillions in compliance costs and spark increased external investment.
At the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), AI has already reviewed over 1,000 regulatory sections in under two weeks. Similarly, it was responsible for “100% of deregulations” at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), according to the PowerPoint presentation. The Post, however, reported it was not able to confirm the use of AI at the agency independently.
100,000 still seems like an order of magnitude (or two) too many.

UNDOING BIDEN’S CRISIS BY DESIGN: DHS started flying illegal immigrants out of Florida’s ‘Alligator Alcatraz.’
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said Friday that the Department of Homeland Security has started flying illegal immigrants out of his state’s “Alligator Alcatraz” detention facility.
“I’m pleased to report that those flights out of Alligator Alcatraz by DHS have begun,” DeSantis said, Fox News reported. “The cadence is increasing. We’ve already had a number of flights, in the last few days, we’ve had hundreds of illegals [that] have been removed from here.”
“This provides an ability to enhance the mission, to increase the number and frequency of deportations. And so what’s been done here has really been remarkable,” he added.
I’d add, “More like this, please,” but it looks like there will already be plenty more like this.

THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS: Israel’s 12-Day War Revealed Alarming Gap in America’s Missile Stockpile.
The U.S. has seven high-end Thaad missile-defense systems. During the 12-day war with Iran in June, two were deployed to Israel—and it wasn’t enough.
Operating alongside Israeli systems, Thaad operators burned through munitions at a furious clip, firing more than 150 missiles to shoot down the waves of Iranian ballistic missiles, according to U.S. officials. That is nearly a quarter of the interceptors ever purchased by the Pentagon.
The demand was so staggering that at one point, the Pentagon considered a plan to divert interceptors purchased by Saudi Arabia to the systems in Israel, one official said. The discussions were sensitive, because the kingdom’s cities and oil installations were also considered at risk during the conflict.
It wasn’t just the Thaad. The U.S. ran through large numbers of shipborne interceptors as well, and Israel quickly drained stockpiles for its own systems. Dozens of Iranian missiles got through anyway.
While Israeli officials credited the American systems for saving thousands of lives, the war revealed an alarming gap in U.S. supplies. The U.S. also discovered inefficiencies in the way it fired its antimissile systems and is scrutinizing the performance of some interceptors.
It’s a peacetime conceit that we never stockpile enough of what we need for war.
KRUISER AND KDJ ARE ON THE AIR: Unwoke’ Free-for-All #90: It’s a Great Time to Be Alive in Trump’s America.
HMM: Are We About to Lose the Massive Ordnance Penetrator? “The Air Force has just announced an earlier retirement of the B-2 bomber by 2030. This is the second time that this has happened. This budget driven decision means that ‘…new B-21 must replace — and not be additive to — much of the existing bomber fleet. The Air Force had previously planned to operate the B-1 and B-52 until 2040, and the B-2 to 2058.’ In addition, the Air Force has almost zeroed B-2 modernization. This may eliminate the U.S. ability to deliver the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (GBU-57/B or MOP) which is by far the most effective U.S. conventional weapon against hard and very deeply buried targets. The B-2 bomber is the only U.S. bomber cleared to deliver the MOP. It is also the only current U.S. bomber that can penetrate advanced air defenses. At about the same time, the Air Force accelerated the development of the Next Generation Penetrator (NGP) which would be carried by the new B-21. The NGP will be significantly lighter (no more 22,000 pounds) compared to the MOP’s (30,000 pounds). It will be superior to the MOP in some important respects. It will have a standoff capability, which is very important against advanced air defenses and substantially greater accuracy. However, it is unclear that it will be equal much less superior to the MOP in attacking and destroying large, hard and very deeply buried facilities such as Fordow in Iran. Moreover, at this point the NGP is untested. Hence, there is technical risk concerning its capabilities and availability date.”
“May” — italics in the original — is doing a lot of work here. The B-21 should have a payload similar to the B-2 and ought to be able to carry at least one MOP.

UNEXPECTEDLY: Calif. Fast Food Companies Cut 18K Jobs After Minimum-Wage Hike.
California raised the minimum wage statewide for “fast food restaurant employees” to $20 per hour last April following the passage of a ballot proposition in September the year before.
Analysis of unadjusted data from the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, the NBER found “that employment in California’s fast food sector declined by 2.7 percent relative to employment in the fast food sector elsewhere in the United States from September 2023 through September 2024 … Our median estimate translates into a loss of 18,000 jobs in California’s fast food sector relative to the counterfactual.”
The fast food sector has also cut workers’ hour and increased automation to avoid paying rising employment costs.
And here’s an oldie but a goodie from the experts: California’s $20 Fast-Food Minimum Wage Is a Win-Win-Win, Research Says.

GENOCIDE, STRAIGHT UP: Food Is Stockpiled in Gaza and the UN Is Refusing the Group Ready to Deliver It.
“We’ve been sounding the alarm for weeks on the need for more aid in Gaza while we’ve seen aid by the UN and other organizations being piled near the borders but not being delivered. Our top priority is feeding the people of Gaza, and we’re prepared to adjust our supply chains, work with the UN or other teams to organize the packaging and transport and distribute it to those in need, or we can work with organizations to provide security to ensure food reaches its intended destination. We are ready and able to start today.”
The UN refused, claiming that the organization prioritizes IDF military objectives over neutral humanitarian aid. They have also criticized GHF’s methods, claiming that many Palestinians have been killed while attempting to access aid at GHF’s designated distribution sites. To date, GHF has delivered 87 million meals, averaging between two to three million meals handed out per day.
However, in recent weeks, the UN has done little more than sound the alarm about the lack of aid reaching Gazans, making no real effort to distribute supplies or stop Hamas from stealing resources.
At this point, I just assume the UN is in on the food aid take along with Hamas.

LAUGHING WOLF ON THE NEW NUCLEAR ARMS RACE: Re-Thinking Thinking About The Unthinkable.
First, while not nuclear, we should be looking at adding KEVs to the mix. If we can drop a deep penetrator down air shafts, we can drop a KEV [Kinetic Energy Vehicle]. Which also means we need to consider weapons in space, which is a can of worms but one I think has already been opened. KEVs are flexible and yield can be adjusted via speed. When I say flexible, look at what Jerry Pournelle wrote about Project Thor, which was basically a crowbar with a semi-smart guidance package. Then look at some more recent work. Thing is, a range of options with a lot more flexibility than a nuke is likely to.
Second, we need to be looking at defense. Yes, Trump has announced Golden Dome and I have some hope for it. However, keep in mind that politicians on the left have done everything in their power to stop any and all work on defense against nuclear attack. We need layers and options, and the thing is some of what was done for SDI is still out there and works. The more layers, the better. Also, keep in mind those politicians who pushed for no defense were happy for you to die, though they would likely be secure and safe in their shelters.
Third, we need to look at civil defense options. I don’t think the program of the 50s is needed; but, we do need some civil defense. As I’ve noted before, there are aspects of it that are useful in other situations such as storm, fire, etc. It’s a concept that needs to be explored if we are going to have a serious talk on nuclear reform (including ways to keep the genie in the bottle).
Deterrence is the best way to keep the genie bottled up, and we need to improve ours ASAP.
