CIVIL RIGHTS UPDATE: Ninth Circuit Panel Rules California’s Ammunition Background Check Law Violates the Second Amendment. “The ammunition background checks laws have no historical pedigree and operate in such a way that they violate the Second Amendment right of citizens to keep and bear arms. The anti-importation components violate the dormant Commerce Clause and to the extent applicable to individuals travelling into California are preempted by 18 U.S.C. § 926A.”

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: I’m Excited to See Who Trump Makes Blink Next. “The Democrats are distraught because President Trump has been very focused and effective when it comes to his agenda. He is having great success despite the efforts of seemingly every Obama and Biden appointee in the judiciary. They’re a tedious lot. They know that they can only slow him down, but the tantrum must go on.”
LAUGHING WOLF ON THE NEW NUCLEAR ARMS RACE: Re-Thinking Thinking About The Unthinkable.
First, while not nuclear, we should be looking at adding KEVs to the mix. If we can drop a deep penetrator down air shafts, we can drop a KEV [Kinetic Energy Vehicle]. Which also means we need to consider weapons in space, which is a can of worms but one I think has already been opened. KEVs are flexible and yield can be adjusted via speed. When I say flexible, look at what Jerry Pournelle wrote about Project Thor, which was basically a crowbar with a semi-smart guidance package. Then look at some more recent work. Thing is, a range of options with a lot more flexibility than a nuke is likely to.
Second, we need to be looking at defense. Yes, Trump has announced Golden Dome and I have some hope for it. However, keep in mind that politicians on the left have done everything in their power to stop any and all work on defense against nuclear attack. We need layers and options, and the thing is some of what was done for SDI is still out there and works. The more layers, the better. Also, keep in mind those politicians who pushed for no defense were happy for you to die, though they would likely be secure and safe in their shelters.
Third, we need to look at civil defense options. I don’t think the program of the 50s is needed; but, we do need some civil defense. As I’ve noted before, there are aspects of it that are useful in other situations such as storm, fire, etc. It’s a concept that needs to be explored if we are going to have a serious talk on nuclear reform (including ways to keep the genie in the bottle).
Deterrence is the best way to keep the genie bottled up, and we need to improve ours ASAP.

CALIFORNIA, COLORADO, NEW YORK, AND WASHINGTON RETIRE TO THEIR FAINTING COUCHES: Texas Mobilizes National Guard To Help ICE. “Weirdly, Texas is a state where the government follows the law and works for the benefit of actual citizens, not shadowy transnational conspiracies bound and determined to import as many illegal aliens into the country as possible.”

It’s amazing what people don’t know when they chose not to know it.
CATCH OF THE DAY: ICE arrests 243 criminal illegal migrants in Denver, capturing Tren de Aragua gang members, child sex offenders, human traffickers.
Johnston also quoted from the Bible as he spoke to the panel.
“As mayor I have to protect the health and safety of everyone in our city. As a man of faith I have a moral obligation to care for those in need,” he said. “As scripture says, ‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in.’ So that’s what we did.”
I must have missed that part in the Bible when Jesus used other people’s money to house criminal gang members.

MAYBE IT’S TIME TO FORGET THE DEADLINES AND JUST IMPOSE THE SANCTIONS: Third round of Ukraine-Russia peace talks end in less than a hour with no cease-fire after Trump threatens Putin with sanctions. “The Kremlin indicated its desire to stick to its ‘goals’ before going into the negotiations, with Putin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov telling reporters on Sunday that Moscow is steadfast on holding up their interests.”
The “goal” is capitulation by Ukraine — and the West.
KEVIN DOWNEY JR: Stories the Left Hopes You’ll Miss. “I believe the Left’s sudden interest in all things Epstein is a smoke screen to hide the true history-shattering news coming out almost daily, much of which could hobble the Democratic Party for decades. NOBODY CAN AFFORD TO BUY, NOBODY CAN AFFORD TO SELL: U.S. Homes Are Not Selling, and Prices Continue to Rise.
U.S. home prices hit another record high in June, even as buyers backed out of deals and stood on the sidelines. This should be the busiest time of year, but the housing market remains frozen in place and sales are down.
Last month, sales of existing homes dropped by 2.7 percent from the previous month, while the median home price, at $435,300, hit a record high for the month of June, according to the National Association of Realtors.
June is supposed to be the height of the spring housing season, the time of year when Americans move before their attention shifts to summer vacations, the next school year and the winter holidays. Sales typically pick up again in the fall, but not enough to compensate for a lackluster spring. And this spring has been anything but active. In a sign that buyers are skittish about making a large purchase in an uncertain economy, about 15 percent of June deals fell apart, the highest level for the month of June on record, according to Redfin.
“What it really comes down to, as always, is affordability,” said Daryl Fairweather, the chief economist at Redfin. Buyers, she said, “just don’t feel like they can afford to buy a home at these prices.”
I’m about as hawkish on inflation as it’s possible to be, but it’s time for the Fed to start cutting.

BLUE STATE BLUES: Washington ‘in the worst budget crisis we’ve ever had.’
“We’re in the worst budget crisis we’ve ever had,” Gov. Bob Ferguson’s Senior Health Policy Advisor Caitlin Safford told the Senate Health & Long-Term Care Committee at its Tuesday meeting.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act enacts changes to Medicaid eligibility, which is expected to significantly reduce the number of Washington residents on the program, known in the state as Apple Heath. While Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., recently claimed 250,000 would lose coverage and cause more than a dozen hospitals to close, Health Care Authority Medicaid Director Charissa Fotinos told the Health & Long-Term Care Committee she estimated 100,000 would lose coverage.
While she said that “we can’t say with any certainty how many people will lose coverage and how much money it will cost the state over the 10-year period,” she added that “the impacts will significant.”
It isn’t the responsibility of voters in the other 49 states to pay for Washington’s largess for illegals and fraudsters — the only people losing coverage under OBBBA.
KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Tulsi Gabbard Has Hillary Hitting the Breakfast Franzia Hard Now. “Which verbal bomb-throwing pundit is it who always says that that Democrats are mentally unwell? Oh yeah, that’s me. As the headline of a column I wrote last September said, ‘It’s OK to Call Your Political Opponents Insane If They’re, You Know, Insane.’ Hillary Clinton has been my inspiration for that for a very long time.”
LONG TIME COMING: FDA ‘rewriting’ food pyramid guidelines.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary said he is focused on overhauling long-held standards and recommendations within the agency, including “rewriting” the FDA’s food pyramid recommendations created in 1992.
Makary spoke in a lecture series hosted by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Wednesday about the priorities of the FDA and future developments within the department.
“The people I think about every day are the people who have less than 500 dollars of cash on hand,” Makary said. “That’s half of America.”
Makary said former food pyramid recommendations placed a greater emphasis on refined carbohydrates and sugar. He said the food pyramid’s recommendations led to overconsumption of ultra processed foods and a high correlation with heart disease.
The FDA replaced the 1992 food pyramid with “MyPlate” which placed an emphasis on vegetables and grains as as the largest portions of meals.
“They picked the wrong dude,” Makary said. “So we’re rewriting the food pyramid right now.”
It might be better to abolish FDA food recommendations altogether, considering their history — and the likelihood of them being manipulated again sometime in the future by wrongheaded do-gooders.
