EVERYTHING IS GOING SWIMMINGLY: Diesel prices soaring beyond crude, gasoline — and likely to stay that way. “In a recent report, Verleger makes a similar argument. He sees the biggest difference as the structural changes in the market, many of them related to government mandates, having permanently altered the diesel market into a situation where traditional spreads between crude and diesel, and diesel and gasoline, have disappeared and won’t be returning.”

NOBODY DOES, SO WHAT MAKES THEM SO SPECIAL? College grads don’t want to pay their debts. “College graduates dominate the media and academia, Demsas writes. They set political agendas. But they risk fracturing the Democrats’ already shaky coalition.”

IT’S A DIRTY BUSINESS: Clean Energy Has a Dirty Little Secret. “Clean energy does solve one of the Left’s problems: People they don’t like doing things they don’t approve of.”

HMM: ‘F*****g cowards’ Russian officer shoots OWN troops as army morale on brink of collapse.

A recently intercepted telephone conversation between a Russian officer and his wife revealed the desperation of Putin’s frontline commanders as they try to motivate their soldiers.

The officer said: “My soldiers don’t want to fight. I even shoot them – but it’s no use.”

The commander reserved his sharpest criticism for the new recruits being sent by the Kremlin to the trenches.

I’m not reading too much into this this, at least not yet. Russian officers have been shooting Russian conscripts for a very long time, in both losing and winning wars.

SABER-RATTLING, OR WORSE? Russia Threatens to Nuke Britain, France, and Germany. “Channel One’s 60 Minutes program, one of the most popular TV shows in Russia, featured ‘the chairman of the nationalist Rodina party, Aleksey Zhuravlyov,’ who ‘suggested Russia could launch a Sarmat missile attack on the UK.’ This was not, however, Zhuravlyov’s eccentric view: ‘Producers then cut to a map of Kaliningrad and seemed to suggest that missiles could be launched from the Russian enclave between Poland, Lithuania and the Baltic Sea.'”

CHANGE? Germany: Quitting Russian oil by late summer is ‘realistic.’ “Economy and Climate Minister Robert Habeck said Sunday that Europe’s largest economy has reduced the share of Russian energy imports to 12% for oil, 8% for coal and 35% for natural gas. Germany has been under strong pressure from Ukraine and other nations in Europe to cut energy imports from Russia that are worth billions of euros, which help fill Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war chest.”

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Biden’s Disinformation Commies Have a DeSantis Problem. “What’s interesting about this is that the Democrats have a dismal track record when going head-to-head with DeSantis. If Biden’s Truth Nazi effort is going to be DOA or short-lived, who better than DeSantis to help facilitate that?”

I REMEMBER WHEN KAMALA HARRIS TOLD THE EXACT SAME LIE USING THE EXACT SAME WORDS: Mayorkas’ message to migrants remains: ‘Do not come.’

Despite promising during his campaign that he would end Title 42 — a deportation policy invoked by then-President Donald Trump designed to stop the spread of Covid-19 through restrictions on immigration — President Joe Biden has kept the policy in place since taking office. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced in early April that it would end the policy May 23, which has been used to expel more than 1 million migrants at the southern border.

The decision has led to a revolt from Democrats, who fear a summer surge of migrants at the border if the policy is revoked. The move has also provided ammo for Republicans, who are weaponizing the topic ahead of the midterm elections. Multiple states have sued to block the end of the policy.

DHS officials have said they’re planning for the possibility of 18,000 border apprehensions per day if Title 42 is lifted — compared to the current number of about 7,000 per day.

Illegal immigrants understand that Mayorkas’ mouth says “no” but Biden’s policies say “yes.”

YOU DON’T SAY: Americans are showing inflation fatigue, and some companies see a breaking point.

Robust consumer spending has powered the U.S. economy through much of the pandemic, as households were helped by COVID-related government stimulus programs, rising wages and a rebound in the U.S. job market that has pushed the unemployment rate down near pre-pandemic levels.

Companies that made everything from baby wipes to washing machines were able to raise prices without denting demand much. Now, some executives and analysts say that Americans’ buying power is being squeezed by inflation, which in March hit the highest annual rate since 1981. Grocers and other food and staples sellers, for instance, say shoppers have increasingly been seeking discounted products and lower-cost brands.

“U.S. consumer confidence has been shaken by rampant inflation and geopolitical uncertainty in recent months,” Tempur Sealy Chief Executive Scott Thompson told analysts Thursday.

We keep getting told things like that, but are consumers really thinking about Ukraine when they’re worrying about the price of wipes for their babies?

EVERYTHING IS GOING SWIMMINGLY: Weapons Shipments to Ukraine: ‘The Closet is Bare.’ “Lawmakers sound the alarm over a protracted war in Ukraine. The weapons shipments to the war-torn country have cut into the Pentagon’s stockpile of Javelin anti-tank missiles and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles by about 1/3. They need to be replaced and soon, according to officials.”

EVERYTHING YOU EVER NEEDED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SWITCHBLADE DRONE (BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK): Switchbladeapalooza.

PUNCH BACK TWICE AS HARD: ESPN Anchor Sues for Violation of Free Speech. “Sage Steele is the only openly conservative personality at ESPN, and she has never shied away from or compromised her beliefs. That’s made her a target for wokes at the subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, and now she’s suing ESPN and Disney for violating her free speech rights.”

Background: Sage Steele Suspended from ESPN for ‘Controversial’ Comments about Mandates, Obama, Female Reporters.

SHOT: Russia Is Losing a War Against Hackers Stealing Huge Amounts of Data. “Dozens of Russian companies and government agencies have been hacked in apparent retribution for the invasion of Ukraine.”

Chaser: Russian Linked Attackers Barraged Ukrainian Networks With Hundreds of Attacks. “Attackers reportedly conducted 237 operation with some seemingly occurring in tandem with kinetic military strikes.”

What was supposed to be a quick war has turned into a real knife fight. And the rule of knife fights is: Everybody bleeds.

OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY: The US Government May Have Wasted $22 Billion on HoloLens. “A US government watchdog is warning that the Pentagon may have wasted more than $22 billion on Microsoft’s HoloLens by failing to ask if the soldiers who would be theoretically responsible for deploying the hardware actually wanted to use it or perceived any benefit from doing so. This is an observation so banal, one might wonder why the government needed to put it in an audit in the first place. This isn’t the first time, however, that we’ve heard rumors about soldiers not liking HoloLens — or IVAS, as the combat variant is known.”

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Joe Biden Admits That He’s Not a Fan of Joe Biden. “There is so much to not like about Joe Biden that it’s difficult to narrow down his worst traits. I’m gonna give it a whirl here though.”
