JULIE BURCHILL: These posh eco-loons need to check their privilege.

[Cressida] Gethin is a 22-year-old music student who, among other things, clambered on to a gantry over the M25 in 2022. In doing so, she ruined the trips of 4,000 airline passengers. Whether swinging from gantries or attempting to destroy great art, these young people have the air of never having heard the word ‘No’.

Why are the climate fanatics all so posh? The Just Stop Oil activists are always called Cressida or Amy Rugg-Easey or Indigo Rumbelow. (Rumbelow has inspired an amusing Twitter game called Find Your Silly Posh Girl Name ‘by combining a colour with a defunct shop’.) In this, JSO is simply carrying on the glorious tradition of Extinction Rebellion, the leading lights of which had such names as Robin Ellis-Cockcroft and Robin Boardman-Pattinson.

Infamously, Boardman-Pattinson opined in 2019 that ‘air travel should only be used in emergencies’, despite having been on a number of skiing trips that very year, which he had foolishly posted on social media. It’s no wonder Cressida Gethin picked on desperate sun-seekers to make her point. Like the dowager countess in Downton Abbey who once asked, ‘What is a weekend?’, posh people who do nothing find it hard to understand what a holiday means to ordinary folk.

Like aristocrats down the ages, these posh clowns get together and breed new generations of clowns. Trans activist Riz Possnett, who glued her hands to the floor of the Oxford Union to protest against feminist Kathleen Stock last year, is the daughter of Extinction Rebellion activist Robert Possnett. He has been arrested several times for making a nuisance of himself. He once glued himself to a Brexit Party bus. The bananas don’t fall far from the tree in this family’s case.

And then there’s poshest eco-loon of them all: This May Be the Dumbest Thing John Kerry Has Ever Said.

“I believe that Russia has the ability to be able to make enormous changes if it really wanted to,” Kerry continued. “I mean, if Russia has the ability to wage a war illegally and invade another country, they ought to be able to find the effort to be responsible on the climate issue.” Indeed, he went on to note that Russia’s “unprovoked, illegal war” has “sadly” halted progress on climate-related issues. “I say ‘sadly’ because it’s a loss for the world not to be able to have Russia acting constructively on this issue,” Joe Biden’s SPEC concluded.

I’m going to go out on a limb and speculate that precisely no one, save perhaps, John Kerry, would be willing to reevaluate Russia’s war if Moscow committed to reducing its aggregate carbon emissions over the course of a decade by a couple of percentage points. Precisely zero observers of the war in Europe would compartmentalize summary execution, rape as a weapon of war, ethnic cleansing on a mass scale, and the subsummation of a sovereign people into Russian captivity because Russia put illusory caps on carbon dioxide and methane discharges. Indeed, in even indulging this fanciful notion, Kerry has only revealed how monomaniacal climate-change alarmists have become.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor in their high carbon footprint Messerschmidts? Forget it, he’s rolling — in his Prius.

THE JOURNOLIST IS HOPPING: A 1-Word Talking Point for Biden’s SOTU Has Gone Out and the Media’s RUNNING With It.

And how. This is the current result for typing those words into Google News:

At least the optics weren’t as bad as September 2022, when his handlers inexplicably decided to go full Riefenstahl:

UPDATE: “President Steroids Shouts His Way through the State of the Union,” Jim Geraghty writes. “Taken as a whole, Biden’s speech started to sound like Howard Beale’s monologue from Network. But keep in mind, the number of Americans who watched the whole speech, beginning to end, is considerably smaller than the number who will see brief excerpts on the television news, or YouTube, or other social media. By shouting through almost the entire speech, Biden maximized the odds that any clip or segment that went viral would have him looking fired up and impassioned rather than like the sleepy, whispery, mumbling octogenarian that Americans have soured on so thoroughly.”

MORE: “Media Falls In Love All Over Again With ‘Feisty,’ ‘Fiery’ Biden,” Ed Morrissey adds.

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG? Desperate Biden Signs off on U.S. Military Building Infrastructure for Hamas.

‘The President will announce that he’s directing the US military to lead an emergency mission to establish a port in the Mediterranean on the Gaza coast that can receive large ships carrying food, water medicine, and temporary shelters,’ a senior administration official said on a briefing call with reporters on Thursday.

‘The planning involves the presence of US military personnel on military vessels offshore but does not require US military personnel to go ashore to install the pier or causeway facility that will allow to the transportation of humanitarian assistance,’ a senior defense official said.

‘We’re not planning for this to be an operation that would require U.S. boots on the ground,’ an official noted.

Pardon my skepticism but do we trust this administration on any “planning” going on by this incompetent lot? Remember the withdrawal from Afghanistan? Since then American bases in the Middle East have been attacked by Iran and its proxies while Joe Biden twiddles his thumbs and goes for ice cream cones.

Exit quote: “This is how desperate Joe Biden is to win the state of Michigan in November. The Uncommitted movement has taken him by surprise and a victory in Michigan is not certain for Biden. It is hard for Biden to win in November without winning Michigan.”

As I said, what could go wrong?

RIP: Legendary entertainer Steve Lawrence, of Steve and Eydie fame, dies at 88.

Steve Lawrence, a singer and top stage act who kept Tin Pan Alley alive during the rock era as a solo performer and in tandem with his wife Eydie Gorme, died Thursday. He was 88.

Lawrence, whose hits included “Go Away Little Girl,” died from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease, said Susan DuBow, a spokesperson for the family.

Lawrence and Gorme — or Steve & Eydie — were known for their frequent appearances on talk shows, in nightclubs and on the stages of Las Vegas. The duo took inspiration from George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and other songwriters.

He’ll always be Maury Sline to me, though.

BIDEN TO DELIVER STATE OF THE UNION SPEECH AT THE LATEST DATE EVER:

President Joe Biden will be delivering his second State of the Union address on Thursday, where he will likely highlight the achievements of his administration and lay out his plans for the future in front of one of the most politically divided Congresses in modern history.

Biden is presenting his case to both the Republican-controlled House, which is actively looking into him for potential impeachable offenses, and the Democratic-dominated Senate, which has generally followed his lead on significant legislation.

The speech’s March 7 delivery date is the latest one for a State of the Union address in history, Fox News noted.

I hope his handlers get the adrenochrome formula correct tonight:

It’s tough to trust them on the drug dosages, when they can’t get basic things like the month and year correct. Although, based on past performance, perhaps Joe wrote this one himself?

GREAT MOMENTS IN PRIORITIES:

Funny, I don’t recall reading about FDR, Truman, or their cabinet heads decrying the pollution output of the Nazis or imperial Japan during WWII, which I suppose shows just how blinkered their administrations’ focus was back then.

JON STEWART, HOMOPHOBE? Jon Stewart Mocks Dr. Phil as Gay for Noticing Border Invasion.

Dr. Phil quickly figured out how open-border advocates deal with their critics.

“You’re a racist” for wanting any semblance of immigration control.

This week, Jon Stewart proved Dr. Phil right in the ugliest way possible.

* * * * * * * *

Dr. Phil visited the U.S. southern border recently and noted, among other things, how many Chinese men of military age were crossing it. That included very fit men ready for, well, we don’t know what.

It’s the kind of question an honest journalist might ask. Except we have very few who fit that description.

Enter Stewart.

The comedian suggested Dr. Phil was sexually aroused by the fit men crossing the border for unknown reasons, launching into a nasty, potentially homophobic attack on the TV veteran.

“I want to get a** deep on these immigrants,” Stewart said, mocking Dr. Phil’s southern drawl. The rest of the conversation got more lurid, so it won’t be repeated here.

Stewart briefly acknowledged the historic number of illegal border crossings but blamed the GOP for not passing strong border legislation.

It’s not true, of course.

In fact, Team Biden once bragged about eliminating nearly 100 Trump-era measures designed to bolster border security.

Why is Comedy Central such a cesspit of homophobia?

SAN FRAN RESIDENTS BEGIN TIMID RETURN TO REALITY: San Francisco Voters Deliver Blow to Soft-on-Crime Policies.

San Francisco residents on Tuesday voted to let police conduct more vehicle chases and deploy drones and surveillance cameras to fight crime. They also ordered mandatory drug screening for childless adults who receive welfare and housing assistance—benefits that will now be yanked from those who refuse testing.

Both measures passed by wide margins. The police initiative, which voters approved by nearly 20 points, would give law enforcement more leeway in when and why they can chase down suspects fleeing in vehicles. Officers are currently barred from chasing suspected thieves and can only go after those who they believe have committed a violent felony or pose immediate danger to the public. Police would also be able to deploy drones, facial recognition, and other surveillance technology to fight crime.

The welfare measure, which passed by 26 points, would require poor and homeless adults under 65 and without dependent children to be tested for drug use, and if they don’t pass their screening they would have to enter treatment to receive San Francisco’s cash payments and housing assistance. Those who fail a drug test and refuse to receive treatment will not be eligible for benefits.

Of course, much work remains for SF to avoid becoming Detroit by the bay: San Francisco’s Democrat Mayor Joins Republican effort to roll back law that made it nearly impossible to jail repeat shoplifters and people who deal fentanyl.

BYRON YORK: Haley loss another reminder: GOP can’t go back.

Each Republican candidate running in 2024 had to reckon with Trump’s complicated legacy — and then with Trump himself. Some tried to be super Trumpy. Some tried to be anti-Trumps. Some tried to be old school. None succeeded.

All had to recognize one fact: For the GOP, there was no going back. In February 2022, I had a long discussion with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who at that time was clearly thinking about running for president but still had to enact his legislative agenda and win reelection. (He did both in a very impressive fashion.) I mentioned that there were some Republicans who were simply more comfortable with the old style of Republicanism and the old line of succession. I asked DeSantis if he thought there was any going back to that. He laughed. Absolutely not, he said. No way, no how. Despite his loss, he was right.

Indeed, there is not. But there are still those Republicans who are nostalgic for a more orderly GOP. And many of them looked to Haley as their final hope, at least for now, of making that happen. Haley spoke passionately about the “chaos” that surrounds Trump — and indeed, he is a man facing 91 felony counts and all the trouble that entails. She promised a return to a calmer and more disciplined Republican Party. Her problem was that there were not nearly enough Republicans who want that, too. Some love Trump, others don’t love him but like his results, and others think that for all his flaws he is what the GOP needs to fight a Democratic Party dominated by progressive activists. Some would even like to move on from Trump but don’t believe there is another Republican on the scene with the strength and talent to lead the party in a new direction. In any event, Haley has lost, and those supporters who want to change today’s Republican Party will have to wait for new circumstances to bring new leaders.

Meanwhile, at America’s Newspaper of Record: Raytheon Lowers Flags To Half-Staff After Nikki Haley Drops Out. “The aerospace technology corporation, which had been holding out hope that the world would enter a new era of highly profitable war, destruction, and death with the onset of World War III, was devastated by this morning’s news that Haley had suspended her campaign.”

BEN SHAPIRO: The Dirty Little Secret of the 2024 Campaign.

Meanwhile, Trump is winning over more and more vote-switchers. That’s because his positions are moderate. On abortion, for example, he may support a federal 16-week ban. By polling data, 48% of Americans support such a ban, compared with 36% who oppose such a ban. Only 24% of Americans support Biden’s position — availability of abortion without limits. On immigration, Biden is underwater by over 20 points. On inflation and spending, Americans favor lower inflation and lower spending — both propositions that cut against Biden’s preferred policies. On national security, Americans broadly favor Israel over Hamas — and yet Biden’s administration has steered toward the pro-Hamas voters in Dearborn, Michigan.

For some reason, Biden and his team think that their echo chamber strategy — shouting “Jan. 6!” over and over while demonizing their political opposition as insurrectionists and traitors — is likely to jog enough base turnout to overcome their loss of the middle. But that’s a chimerical proposition. Biden, in other words, has been suckered by the very people who want him to win most — the radicals in the media who keep ramming him toward the far left, even as he falls further and further behind in the polling.

Don’t get cocky; Joe’s enablers could still get him over the finish line one more time: The ‘cabal’ that bragged of foisting Joe Biden on us must answer for his failed presidency.

And the media wonders how they ended up covering Trump, after 25 years of going full-DefCon One on Dubya, McCain, Palin, and Romney:

(Updated and bumped.)

UNEXPECTEDLY: Doctors admit link between transgender hormone therapy and cancer in leaked emails.

Doctors on a leading transgender healthcare body have admitted that patients have developed cancer owing to the effects of hormone treatment.

Leaked emails show other medical professionals admitting that trans patients do not always understand the consequences of gender reassignment.

The cache of files from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), which sets guidelines that have influenced NHS treatment, show that doctors are carrying out life-changing surgery and prescribing puberty blockers even though they are aware the adults and children may not fully understand the long term ramifications.

One doctor talked about a transgender person who died of cancer as a result of his hormone treatment.

“I have one transition friend/colleague who, after about eight to 10 years of [testosterone] developed hepatocarcinoma [a form of liver cancer],” the doctor wrote.

“To the best of my knowledge, it was linked to his hormone treatment… it was so advanced that he opted for palliative care and died a couple of months later.”

It’s not clear from the documents if the person who died was made aware or knew about the side effect.

FINALLY: Sydney Sweeney has brought boobs back.

See, back in my day, kids, boobs were everywhere. It was the Nineties and early Aughts. We had Pamela Lee and Baywatch. Jennifer Love Hewitt graced the cover of Maxim with her boobs. My girlfriends always used to complain about not understanding men — I told them, “stop reading Cosmo and start reading Maxim.” Our supermodels — like Tyra Banks and Cindy Crawford — had curves. Carmen Electra did one of the hottest photoshoots in the history of Playboy magazine in her 2003 cover spread. McCarthy was Playmate of the Year in 1993 and from there became a host of Singled Out on MTV. The Man Show with Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel, had a segment that was just girls jumping on trampolines. We were a culture awash in tits — and it was glorious.

We could look at boobs and not feel bad about it — and that’s a good thing. In fact, I’d argue it’s a healthy thing. Boobs are fantastic. There’s a biological component that makes it totally normal to be fascinated by boobs.

Then came the advent of the highly-strung women’s site and, understandably, shit got weird. It’s been weird ever since.

If only the GOP had listened to Glenn over a decade ago: “I think that rich people wanting to support the Republican Party might want to direct their money somewhere besides TV ads that copy, poorly, what Lee Atwater did decades ago. My suggestion: Buy some women’s magazines. No, really. Or at least some women’s Web sites.”

CHANGE:

UPDATE: Sen. Kyrsten Sinema Won’t Run for Re-Election. Centrist has played pivotal role in series of bipartisan deals but angered progressives. “Had she chosen to run for re-election, her path to the nomination would have been difficult, something her own team acknowledged. A flier circulated by Sinema’s camp at one point and viewed by the Journal said a winning formula for her could include 10%-20% of Democrats, 60%-70% of independent voters and 25%-35% of Republicans—margins that far exceed her 2018 totals with independents and Republicans.”

HOW IT STARTED:

Yet even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Well, I say to them tonight, there’s not a liberal America and a conservative America – there’s the United States of America. There’s not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there’s the United States of America. The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don’t like federal agents poking around our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and have gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and patriots who supported it. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.

Sen. Obama’s Keynote Address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

How it’s going: Biden will ask America ‘Whose side are you on?’ in State of the Union this week and accuse Trump of being with Putin, less democratic freedom and higher health costs.

—The London Daily Mail, yesterday.

As Neo wrote in 2015 in her look back at the 2004 speech by Joe’s boss:

Reading it now I could almost weep, because it is so deceptive, so unlike the Barack Obama we’ve come to know so well. If the guy portrayed in that speech had won an election, the result probably wouldn’t have been half bad. But that guy never existed; he was an actor reading his lines. 2004 was his first performance on the national stage, and he ought to have won an Oscar for it.

Even the actor himself later fessed up that he was giving a heck of a performance:

In the speech that made his name in 2004, Illinois state senator Barack Obama jubilantly told the Democratic National Convention in Boston, “There is not a liberal America and a conservative America, there’s the United States of America.” On April 24, 2017, reflecting on the earlier speech, Obama said, “That was aspirational,” to widespread laughs. He added, “Honestly it’s not true when it comes to our politics.”

FASTER, PLEASE: Border Patrol: 70 Percent Drop in Successful Evasions Since Title 42 Ended.

Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens confirmed last week that the number of known successful evasions of Border Patrol (“gotaways”) have fallen to just 800 per day in fiscal year 2024—down 70 percent from 2,671 the week before the Title 42 expulsion authority ended on May 11. A decline in gotaways this large and fast is unprecedented in Border Patrol’s history, and even as the administration faces unrelenting criticism, this stands as a major immigration win.

I have previously written about this phenomenon, using numbers leaked by Border Patrol to friendly journalists who report them without the context of the broader trend. But this update confirms that the low numbers continued into January and February. Figure 1 shows the monthly data using the chief’s update and media reporting for more recent numbers and a Freedom of Information Act for the older numbers. Gotaways fell from a high of 73,463 in April 2023 just before Title 42 ended to about 21,758 in February 2024. Ending Title 42 appears to have been the biggest single benefit to border security in its history.

Of course, that’s not the only way to goose the numbers lower: Biden Admin admits it secretly flew 320,000 “asylum seekers” into US (in 2023 alone) to reduce numbers at the border.

ANNALS OF LEFTIST AUTOPHAGY: AOC Loses It When Protesters Accuse Her of Being Insufficiently Antisemitic*.

What’s more interesting about the confrontation at the movie theater is the response from AOC. She was genuinely upset that anyone would dare to approach her in public and criticize her. She told one of the protesters that she needed them to understand that their actions were “not ok.” She then accused them of lying and claimed (falsely) that  she had “already said it.” Then she and her boyfriend fled the scene.

AOC is acting all put-upon here as if the idea that citizens might approach her in a public place and hurl accusations at her is simply beyond the pale**. But she and her progressive colleagues were the ones who trained these people to behave in this fashion. During the Trump administration, Democrats were cheering for and praising people who chased down members of the administration at restaurants and theaters, disrupting their meals and private time with their families. They actively encouraged the public to treat conservatives like pariahs who should not be allowed to go out in public. They also perfected the art of having gangs show up at the homes of public figures to protest and disrupt their lives.

It’s not so much fun when the shoe is on the other foot, is it, AOC? While I don’t agree with their actions, I would just like to point out that your supporters are unhinged and they are behaving the way you wanted them to behave. Ironically, they are coming after you despite the fact that you are already one of the most antisemitic members of Congress. But in this case, you’re still not antisemitic enough for the mob so they’re going to try to force you to pay a price for that.

Riots for thee, but not for me:

* To be fair, based on her past actions and the whirlwind of lunacy that surrounded her in 2019, I can see why the anti-Semitic left would be shocked that Sandy apparently isn’t fully onboard.

** Saul Alinsky smiles.

MICHAEL WALSH: Now They Tell Us.

Breaking news from 2020: “It’s Official: We Can Pretty Much Treat Covid Like the Flu Now.” What do you mean “now,” white man?

* * * * * * * *

The Malevolent Midget is gone now, pulling down his handsome pension for his “service,” but the evil that he did lives on after him. Should Trump actually overcome the forces arrayed against him and actually pull a Grover Cleveland and get re-elected to the office from which a “fortified” election forcibly ejected him in 2020, a just universe would allow him to deal out some well-deserved payback for the forces behind the Russia Hoax, the Climate-Change Hoax, and the Covid Hoax, not to mention the abrogation of American sovereignty at the southern (and northern) borders, the collapse of the American military into a sob-sisterhood of feminist resentment and gay and “transsexual” triumphalism, and all the other ills currently attendant upon these United States.

What lessons can we learn from this belated admission that the entire clusterkluge was a “mistake”? How to compensate for those who watched their loved ones die from behind a plate-glass window in Mengele Memorial Hospital? For those who — like a dear friend and mentor of mine — died from a second shot of the “vaccine” in the early days of the panic? For the families disrupted, restaurants closed, businesses destroyed, industries wrecked — and all with the witting complicity of the mainstream media, which so enthusiastically hosanna-ed the official narrative, despite the evidence of their own senses?

I’m happy to see that the “Supreme Court Restores Trump to Colorado Primary Ballot in Unanimous Ruling ahead of Super Tuesday.” But what lessons has he learned from his role in the 2020 debacle?

THE NOT SO FINAL COUNTDOWN: Sea levels around NYC could surge up to 13 inches in 2030s due to climate change: state study.

Sea levels surrounding New York City are expected to rise at least 6 to 9 inches in the 2030s and potentially up to 13 inches in some areas due to climate change, according to state projections.

The assessment done by the state Department of Environmental Conservations also claims that sea levels in the lower Hudson River could swell by 23 inches in the 2050s and up to 45 inches in the 2080s.

“Sea level rise is one of the most direct and observable effects of climate change in New York and DEC is required by law to develop science-based sea level rise projections to guide decision making and permitting in the areas most at risk,” the DEC said in a statement.

Flashback: Quick Reminder: Nobody at ABC Personally Takes Their Global Warming Doomsday Predictions Seriously, Either.

New York City underwater? Gas over $9 a gallon? A carton of milk costs almost $13? Welcome to June 12, 2015. Or at least that was the wildly-inaccurate version of 2015 predicted by ABC News exactly seven years ago. Appearing on Good Morning America in 2008, Bob Woodruff hyped Earth 2100, a special that pushed apocalyptic predictions of the then-futuristic 2015.

The segment included supposedly prophetic videos, such as a teenager declaring, “It’s June 8th, 2015. One carton of milk is $12.99.” (On the actual June 8, 2015, a gallon of milk cost, on average, $3.39.) Another clip featured this prediction for the current year: “Gas reached over $9 a gallon.” (In reality, gas costs an average of $2.75.)

On June 12, 2008, correspondent Bob Woodruff revealed that the program “puts participants in the future and asks them to report back about what it is like to live in this future world. The first stop is the year 2015.”

As one expert warns that in 2015 the sea level will rise quickly, a visual shows New York City being engulfed by water. The video montage includes another unidentified person predicting that “flames cover hundreds of miles.”

Then-GMA co-anchor Chris Cuomo appeared frightened by this future world. He wondered, “I think we’re familiar with some of these issues, but, boy, 2015? That’s seven years from now. Could it really be that bad?”

As I wrote back in 2015, “Obviously, no one at ABC thought so, since the network never moved their corporate headquarters from its tony Upper West Side address, despite attempting to scare the crap out of gullible low information viewers that Manhattan would be flooded in seven years.”
