AFTER 2020, NO BLUE STATE POLITICIAN’S JOB SHOULD BE SAFE: The Far Left Could Be In Trouble in Big Cities.

Maybe playing up racial-identity politics wasn’t such a great idea after all.

There have been signs that the most radical left-wing ideas are failing in extremely blue cities. A Minneapolis referendum to defund the police failed. San Francisco removed its hyper-progressive district attorney in a recall election, and his replacement cleaned house upon taking office. San Francisco voters also threw out three radical school-board members, and the new board reinstated merit-based admissions at a top high school.

In states whose politics are dominated by big cities, Republican candidates have surprised on the upside this cycle. We’ve seen a strong performance so far from Lee Zeldin in New York, who is running for governor on a law-and-order platform as voters are increasingly concerned about crime. Even if he doesn’t win, he could push Republicans over the finish line in competitive House races. And Christine Drazan in Oregon is pulling into the lead against Democrat Tina Kotek, who is essentially promising to continue the progressive policies of unpopular incumbent Kate Brown. Drazan has handled tricky issues such as abortion with skill and has hammered Kotek, who was speaker of the Oregon house, for her record on school closures during the pandemic.

* * * * * * * *

It’s not written in the Constitution that big cities have to be governed by progressive Democrats. They’ve become dominant in urban politics through years of work and political organizing. Many Republicans saw their electoral success and gave up. But when presented with viable alternatives to progressivism, voters are open to better governance. The Left has gone too far for many voters in many big cities across the country, and it is starting to pay the price for its excesses.

Faster, please.

MOUNTAIN LION VS. COYOTES ON LOS ANGELES STREET (VIDEO):

LOS ANGELES, California — A mountain lion confronted a pack of coyotes on a residential street on Wednesday night, a rare sight that is a reminder that for all its urban sprawl and congestion, L.A. remains surrounded by wilderness.

The standoff took place at approximately 10:45 p.m. in the Marquez Knolls neighborhood of Pacific Palisades, an affluent area on the northwest side of the city, nestled between the Santa Monica Mountains and the beaches of the Pacific Ocean.

As families settled down to sleep, the neighborhood was roused by the barking and yelping of coyotes. That, in itself, is not so unusual: coyotes frequently emerge from the mountains and hunt for small rodents — including dogs and cats — on the city periphery.

What was unusual was the reason the coyotes were making such a commotion: they were frightened by a large adult mountain lion, which apparently had been hunting in the area.

THE TRUNALIMUNUMAPRZURE TWINS: The Biden-Fetterman rally is every bit as coherent as you’d imagine.

“Biden goes to bat for John Fetterman in Pennsylvania,” reads the headline from Bloomberg. If so, Joe Biden appears to have struck out. And Fetterman apparently never came up to bat.

* * * * * * * *

One has to wonder just how accurate the polling out of Pennsylvania has been after this rally. If the race was close and/or Fetterman was leading, they’d never have had Biden come out to campaign. Barack Obama? Sure. Even Bernie Sanders might have done better with working-class voters. Bringing Biden in to close the sale for Fetterman, however, feels like a desperation move as the candidate spins downward with voters — especially if they were relying on Biden to bolster their campaign’s coherence.

I wonder how far down the list of closers Biden was. “We can’t get either of the Obamas. We can’t get Bernie. Oh well, I guess we’ll have to go with the old man at this point. What’s the worst that could happen?”

Earlier: Biden says John Fetterman’s wife will be ‘great lady in the Senate.’

THE SHE-HULK FINALE PROVES DISAPPROVING AUDIENCES ARE GETTING TO WOKE WRITERS:

In the interview with Variety, head writer Jessica Gao wanted to create a show that attacked the “trolls” that hate on shows like “She-Hulk”:

Our writers room opened three years ago. The fact that we were able to predict what the reaction was going to be, what a lot of the trolling comments were going to be, really shows how very tired and unoriginal these trolls are. That really tickled me because the little troll that lives inside of me really loves trolling the trolls.

Lead actress Tatiana Maslany heaped praise on Gao for her troll-baiting:

Jessica Gao is a genius and knows about the culture we’re living in and her position in it when she’s writing these stories about a woman superhero. She knows what that response is going to be. As a cast, it was delightful sending each other these troll responses, like “Oh my god, give them a week and then they’re going to literally see this pop up verbatim in the show and become the villains of the show.” It was thrilling.

To be clear, the main focus of this Variety article was about trolling “trolls.” This means that this was, in effect, one of the main points of this show. They wanted to make something that would make people angry.

This tells us quite a few things and none of them look good for the She-Hulk writers. Moreover, this doesn’t look good for any writers that are injecting woke ideologies into programs.

Weaponizing audiences to both gin-up hype and dismiss failed projects and was a huge mistake by Hollywood.

LEFT DECLARES VANCOUVER’S FIRST ASIAN MAYOR “FASCIST,” GUILTY OF “WHITE SUPREMACY:”

On Saturday, a wave of change swept through British Columbia’s municipal elections. Nowhere more so than in Vancouver, where the newly formed ABC party, led by Ken Sim, took the mayoralty, seven out of 10 council seats, as well as a majority on the park board and school board. Given that Sim was the first Chinese-Canadian to be elected mayor of Canada’s third-largest city, one would think his win would be universally hailed as a victory for progress and racial equality. Unfortunately, it was not.

Rather than acknowledging the historic nature of Sim’s win, outgoing Mayor Kennedy Stewart delivered a concession speech that included a list of his own non-existent or dubious accomplishments and then fled from the media, refusing to answer questions.

His loss was all the more emphatic when one considers that the other candidates for mayor were nominally right-of-centre and should have pulled votes away from Sim. All told, less than 30 per cent of Vancouverites who showed up to the polls voted to continue down the path Stewart had set of the city.

The usual twitterati who cheer every woke event and accomplishment were also surprisingly quiet about Sim’s momentous accomplishment, and those that did opine seemed unimpressed. Sim was accused of various shortcomings, which ranged from the flimsy to the ridiculous.

He had either bought the election, or his victory was not a win for visible minorities, and of course there were the usual accusations of fascism, this time from a former NDP candidate. One person lamented that, “Vancouver is now a police state,” because Sim wants to increase the size of the Vancouver Police Department by a mere seven per cent (and hire 100 mental health nurses, which you’d think people would like). And in perhaps the most extraordinary accusation of all, Sim was painted as an upholder of white supremacy.

One tries to find polite language to describe such accusations. “Deranged” is, I think, as clean as it is possible to keep it. But such deranged thinking does have its benefits. Namely, it should emphasize, like a blinding flash from a Broadway billboard filled with 1,000-watt bulbs, that being woke or “progressive” has nothing to do with race or sex, but is simply, and only, about one’s political leaning.

“White Supremacy:” Is there anything it can’t do?

KATIE HOBBS’ BALLOT ERROR JUST PROVED KARI LAKE’S POINT:

Arizona’s Democrat Secretary of State Katie Hobbs — also her party’s nominee for governor in this November’s election — just proved a major point of her Republican opponent Kari Lake’s case against Hobbs.

This week, under Hobbs’ leadership, the AZ Department of State improperly marked roughly 6,000 voters as only being eligible to vote in federal races — and at least 1,000 voters already received the wrong absentee ballot.

In an official letter, Hobbs issued a statement on what she called “a federal only voter data error” that the secretary of state said was to blame for the ballot fumble:

“My office found and corrected a database error in concert with the Motor Vehicle Division” that supposedly caused thousands of voters to be marked for absentee ballots that only had federal races rather than the full slate of elections, specifically excluding the race for governor — in which Hobbs is running — along with other state and local offices.

* * * * * * * *

Hobbs is, as the secretary of state, Arizona’s chief election officer. On her watch — and while she’s been busy campaigning (but not debating her opponent) — as many as 6,000 voters were improperly flagged as being eligible to vote only in federal races.

Meanwhile, one of Kari Lake’s main critiques of Hobbs has been the “incompetent” performance as the head of Arizona’s elections. Now, three weeks before election day, Hobbs’ ballot “oops” just played right into Lake’s campaign narrative.

LEARN TO CODE: Elon Musk Just Sent a Huge Warning Shot to ‘Woke’ Twitter Employees Ahead of Buyout Deal Expected to Close.

Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk just send a huge warning shot to ‘Woke’ Twitter employees ahead of his buyout offer for the social media giant, a deal that is expected to close next week.

“Twitter’s workforce is likely to be hit with massive cuts in the coming months, no matter who owns the company, interviews and documents obtained by The Washington Post show, a change likely to have major impact on its ability to control harmful content and prevent data security crises,” the Washington Post reported on Thursday.

“Musk told prospective investors in his deal to buy the company that he planned to get rid of nearly 75 percent of Twitter’s 7,500 workers, whittling the company down to a skeleton staff of just over 2,000,” the report added.

“Even if Musk’s Twitter deal falls through — and there’s little indication now that it will — big cuts are expected: Twitter’s current management planned to pare the company’s payroll by about $800 million by the end of next year, a number that would mean the departure of nearly a quarter of the workforce, according to corporate documents and interviews with people familiar with the company’s deliberations,” the report said. “The company also planned to make major cuts to its infrastructure, including data centers that keep the site functioning for more than 200 million users that log on each day.”

“The extent of the cuts, which have not been previously reported, help explain why Twitter officials were eager to sell to Musk: Musk’s $44 billion bid, though hostile, is a golden ticket for the struggling company — potentially helping its leadership avoid painful announcements that would have demoralized the staff and possibly crippled the service’s ability to combat misinformation, hate speech and spam,” WaPo added.

Well, we all saw how gung-ho Twitter was about “combating misinformation” two years ago: This Insane 2020 Time Magazine Article Explains Exactly Why The Left Fears Losing Twitter.

CHRISTIAN TOTO: Adam Carolla, Dr. Drew Reveal Exactly Why We Mistrust Mainstream Media.

They replayed Biden’s 1987 comments as well as a news report skewering his lies.

“That’s who he is,” Carolla said of Biden, noting the disparate treatment afforded his predecessor. “But you gotta watch out for Trump. That guy’s a liar.”

They followed up the news flashback with far-Left anchor Jake Tapper lobbing softballs at President Biden during a recent interview.

The subject?

First son Hunter Biden, the target of an FBI probe. The feds have “voluminous evidence” of criminal activities, according to press reports.

He notes how Tapper must ask Biden about his troubled son. Otherwise, the anchor’s bias would be so obvious Sen. Bernie Sanders would cry foul. What he does, though, is throw a generic question at the president sans follow-up.

And that’s precisely what Tapper did.

“He must check the box, otherwise people will say, ‘you’re not a reporter, you’re in the bag for Democrats,’” he said. “He must ask it, and he will, but who cares?”

It’s like a cop charged with investigating a suspicious man’s trunk, the comic podcaster said. The officer could pop the trunk and peer inside, or he could ask the driver about the trunk’s contents and take his word for it.

The latter is Jake Tapper’s approach.

To be fair, the CNN anchor did ask a follow-up question, one that would make Woodward and Bernstein grind their teeth.

“You’re about to turn 80 next month, Happy Birthday, ahead of time,” Tapper said.

“If you wanna know what I’ve been talking about, look no further than that,” Carolla said. Later, Carolla added a scenario that highlights media mistrust even further.

“It’s not the politician. It’s the news anchor, the reporters, they’re not doing their job,” Carolla said.

The problem is so ingrained in journalism today that we expect Tapper to fall down on the job.

“If Jake Tapper followed up with the Hunter Biden thing and really squeezed him, we’d all be like, ‘oh my God, why did he do that? See what he did?’” Carolla said.

Although Tapper would be devoured by the left on social media for actually doing his job: “NBC reporter’s comment about Fetterman draws criticism,” notes…AP.

“SOD OFF SWAMPY,” BUT IN GERMAN. Hilarious: This May Just Be the Best Response to Climate Change Radicals.

The young woman with pink hair is bordering on hysterical as she tries to convince people of the importance of their actions.

The usual reaction to people like this has been to cut them loose or free them from the glue and arrest them.

But the folks at Volkswagen may just have had the best response ever to this kind of idiocy.

Sixteen members of “Scientist Rebellion” (which looks like an offshoot of Extinction Rebellion) went to the Porsche pavilion at Volkswagen’s Autostadt in Germany. Nine of them glued themselves to the floor, they also had six other people, and one of the glued “scientists” claimed that some were “on hunger strike until our demands to decarbonize the German transport sector are met.”

Hope they ate well because that’s not happening anytime soon. He’s a “researcher in social psychology” but he’s a “scientist” wearing a lab coat?

But hold on, here comes the best part. Rather than calling the police, getting them loose, and having them arrested, the Volkswagen people left them there and closed, turning everything off, with them glued to the floor, without food, heat, and as, they complained, any way to go to the bathroom.

Gianluca Grimalda later clarified that if the support people went out, they couldn’t get back into the building. Too bad, so sad.

It says something about this group that they claim to be “scientists” but they couldn’t consider and account for the various possibilities here, including defecation. People mocked them into next week for this.

KINSLEY GAFFE: Biden says John Fetterman’s wife will be ‘great lady in the Senate.’

President Biden raised eyebrows Thursday when he said that Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman’s wife would be a “great lady in the Senate” — appearing to imply that the Democrat would be unable to serve due to his poor health.

“John, thank you very much for running, I really do appreciate it,” Biden said at an event in Pittsburgh. “And Gisele, you’re going to be a great, great lady in the Senate.”

Fetterman had a stroke in the same week that he won the May 17 Democratic Senate primary and continues to experience health issues, though he and his campaign insist he’s well enough to hold office.

Some of Biden’s detractors suggested the 79-year-old president’s words may have signaled more than a Freudian slip.

“Biden’s dementia often has him blurt out what his handlers are planning,” tweeted former Trump Treasury Department official Monica Crowley. “Here he is, telling Fetterman’s wife that she’ll be ‘a great, great lady in the Senate.’”

Why, it’s like she’s the de facto candidate or something.

Exit question: “Joe Biden and John Fetterman are currently flying together on Air Force 1. Is the conversation between the two of them the most unintelligible in American political history? I vote yes,” Clay Travis tweets.

FORMER RNC CHAIR MICHAEL STEELE CALLS MAGA REPUBLICANS “LICE, FLEAS, AND BLOOD-SUCKING TICKS.”

As you can tell from the timeline of his leadership of the Republican Party, he is firmly aligned with the George W. Bush wing of the Party, as is Nicole Wallace, who worked for President Bush. As a former supporter of Bush I regret my two votes for him immensely.

Steele was not a particularly popular or effective Chair of the Party, having only won his race for the Chairmanship on the 6th ballot. Once in office he promptly started a war with Rush Limbaugh, attacking him as using “ugly” and “incendiary” rhetoric. Limbaugh won that battle and Steele apologized.

Steele never really recovered from his tiff with Limbaugh and despite running for reelection for Chair, he was ejected from the position. Deservedly so.

Ever since Steele has held a grudge, particularly exacerbated by the ascendance of Trump and the MAGA movement. His comments yesterday were in line with his previously expressed opinions, but crossed a line into dehumanizing rhetoric that is disqualifying for any commentator. He is not supposed to be an outrageous Twitter warrior using “ugly” and “incendiary” rhetoric, but rather portrays himself as a representative of Republicans from another era.

Comparing human beings to “lice, fleas, and blood-sucking ticks” has a rather nasty history. I hesitate to compare anybody to the Nazis because it is so rarely true, but this is exactly the same rhetorical move that Hitler used to “other” the Jews. Insects are to be exterminated, not reasoned with or afforded human rights. Steele knows this as well as any educated human being, and yet chose this rhetoric in a moment of clarity on national TV, with a TV news person nodding along.

We’ve been here before. Since Steele sat passively in 2009 while then-CNN host D. L. Hughley said that John McCain supporters ‘literally look like Nazi Germany,’ which Republicans does he support?

WITH DNC IN MIND, CITY BANS CARRYING URINE, FECES: VW climate protesters demand bowl to ‘urinate and defecate’ after gluing themselves to floor.

Climate protesters who glued themselves to the floor of a Volkswagen showroom in Germany need to use the toilet – but now complain the company has refused to provide the group with “a bowl to urinate and defecate” in.

Gianluca Grimalda, a researcher with the Kiel Institute think tank and member of climate protest group Scientist Rebellion, posted on Twitter on Wednesday that 15 people had “occupied the Porsche pavilion” at the Autostadt museum adjoining the carmaker’s factory in Wolfsburg.

“Nine of us glued to the floor and some of us on hunger strike until our demands to decarbonise the German transport sector are met,” he wrote.

“[Volkswagen] told us that they supported our right to protest, but they refused our request to provide us with a bowl to urinate and defecate in a decent manner while we are glued, and have turned off the heating.”

And to think, the Germans were pioneers in environmentalism:

DISPATCHES FROM THE MEMORY HOLE: Peter Doocy forces Jean-Pierre to pretend Biden didn’t say he would end fossil fuels as gas prices surge.

“How is the administration trying to put them out of business?” replied Jean-Pierre.

“Well they produce fossil fuels and he says he wants to end fossil fuel,” he responded, referring to comments the president made during the 2020 presidential campaign.

Jean-Pierre went on to say that oil production was on track to reach a record high in 2023 and said that oil companies could drop gas prices by increasing production because they had already done it previously. She did not address Biden’s comments about ending fossil fuel.

The Republican National Committee responded immediately by posting a video with Biden’s comments promising to stop fracking in the U.S. and saying that he would end fossil fuels.

Even more bizarre was the fact that Jean-Pierre herself told Doocy in June that the administration still intended to end U.S. reliance on fossil fuels.

Flashback to the 2020 election cycle:

OUT ON A LIMB: CEO says San Francisco is a ‘city of chaos’ where retail workers are ‘terrified.’

The progressive CEO of a clothing store chain announced yesterday that he would be closing the San Francisco store because of the frequent break ins by gangs of thieves. Davis Smith who runs the active-wear chain Cotopaxi, described San Francisco as a “city of chaos” and one in which his retail workers are “terrified.” He also described how practical efforts to deal with the problems, such as private security, don’t help because the thieves have learned they won’t be physically stopped or arrested.

It’s sad, but San Francisco appears to have descended into a city of chaos. Many streets and parks are overrun with drugs, criminals, and homelessness, and local leadership and law enforcement enable it through inaction. One of the most beautiful and amazing cities in the world is now a place where many no longer feel safe visiting or living.

We opened a retail store a year ago on Hayes Street, the charming shopping district just blocks away from the famous Full House home. Our first week there, our windows were smashed and thousands of dollars of product was stolen. We replaced the window, and it immediately happened again (four times). We replaced with window with plywood as we waited for a month+ to get a metal security gate installed (demand for those gates is creating huge delays). As of today, we are closing the store due to rampant organized theft and lack of safety for our team. Our store is hit by organized theft rings several times per week. They brazenly enter the store and grab thousands of dollars of product and walk out. We started keeping the door locked and opening it only for customers, but even then, they’ll have a woman go to the door, and then hiding individuals rush into the store as soon as the door opens. Our team is terrified. They feel unsafe. Security guards don’t help because these theft rings know that security guards won’t/can’t stop them. It’s impossible for a retail store to operate in these circumstances, especially when cities refuse to take any action (despite us paying taxes well above any other state we operate in). The city recently announced a reduction of police presence in this neighborhood, despite mass-scale crime.

BLAST FROM THE PAST: In search of Umbrella Man.

Officer Christensen’s account of events was taken at face value in the numerous news accounts that immediately followed the Star Tribune story, but it is ludicrous. Spectator USA’s pseudonymous Cockburn conducted a reality check in “The curious Umbrella Man myth.” Subhead: “Cockburn hasn’t seen this many people excited about an umbrella since Mary Poppins hit theaters in 1964.” Cockburn drily noted in July 2020: “Cockburn would have thought that the carnage of the past month would render one man’s window smashing a historical footnote. But instead, the opposite has happened, for the usual 2020 reason: it is politically useful.”

I thought Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was responsible for the key event that led to the destruction wrought throughout the Twin Cities following the death of George Floyd. The key event was the abandonment of the Third Precinct headquarters on May 28.

Mayor Frey too remains at large. His dereliction was not illegal.

Officer Christensen’s affidavit superimposed a mythical narrative over the events as we saw them unfold. Cockburn observed that it took him “just a single minute on Google to discover rioting and destruction from May 26 — the day before Umbrella Man supposedly kicked everything off.”

Whatever happened to Umbrella Man? He was identified by name and cell phone number in Officer Christensen’s affidavit. He appears to be a bad dude, but did he do more than is depicted in the video above?

There is a yearning on the left to attribute the wave of destruction that emanated from the Twin Cities to “white supremacy” or to “white supremacists.” The left-wing Minnesota Reformer site checked in on the case against Umbrella Man last year in Deena Winter’s story “What’s up with ‘Umbrella Man’?”

KARI LAKE TO REPORTERS: Wanna talk about “election deniers?” I’ve got a few receipts.

LAKE: Let’s talk about election deniers. Here’s 150 examples of Democrats denying election results. Look at this, this is from Joe Biden’s Press Secretary ‘remember Brian Kemp stole the gubernatorial election from Georgians and Stacey Abrams.’ A Democrat was saying that, is that an election denier? Oh look at this, ‘just heard Republican Ryan Costello said it would be difficult for Stacey Abrams to win because she lost her state bid, but she’s still claiming she never lost.’ Hillary Clinton: ‘Trump is an illegitimate President,’ is she an election denier? This on says ‘was the 2016 election legitimate? It is definitely a question worth asking.’ That was the Los Angeles Times. So it’s okay for Democrats to question elections but it’s not okay for Republicans? It’s crock of BS, everyone knows it, we have our freedom of speech and we’re not going relinquish it to a bunch of fake news propagandists. If you want a copy of these I’m sure Anthony will help you get a copy and help you learn how to journalist but look it up. It has been happening for a long time.

Since 2000, people have questioned the legitimacy of our elections. And all we are asking is in the future we do not have to have that anymore. When I’m governor we are going to make sure we have honest elections. We want the Democrats, the Independents, and the Republicans to all know that their vote counted. We want fair, honest, and transparent elections and we are going to deliver that for the people. Hillary Clinton says ‘George W. Bush was selected president not elected.’ So if you are going to start throwing around terms like election denier, lets remember who the other election deniers were Hillary Clinton and all the Democrats.

IT’S COME TO THIS: Death Row Records Co-Founder Endorses Nathan Hochman for California Attorney General.

Michael Harris is straight outta Hollywood. The music industry, to be specific, whose artists are usually lined up behind every communist and social justice reformer in, and running for office. Looking at you, John Legend.

But even more notorious, Harris is the executive who financed Death Row Records, the label that gave us 2Pac, Dr. Dre, and California native son, Snoop Dogg. He reportedly gave a $1.5 million investment to the label’s co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight, much of that money probably derived from drug trafficking.

Both Harris and Knight were hardasses. Both ended up in prison for their corruption and drug trafficking. Harris was also up on a bid of attempted murder and was serving 25-to-life; he wasn’t scheduled to be released until 2028 and was denied compassionate relief during COVID.

None other than Snoop Dogg petitioned former President Donald J. Trump to pardon Harris and two others. President Trump granted the pardon on his last day in office.

On his release, Harris had this to say:

“There’s not a dime of difference between Democrats and Republicans when it comes down to results to me at this point,” the former drug kingpin explained. “I don’t have a dog in the fight unless the people that’s in power deal with the people that are powerless in a respectful way.”

Apparently, Harris feels that Nathan Hochman will be the one to get those results, and who will return that respect and power to the powerless.
