I have no idea what I just watched, and judging by the replies to the video, I don’t think anyone else does either. At least one man in women’s clothing is marching around along with what appears to be a male child in drag. The phrases “live vivid” and “delete ordinary” flash across the screen. “Break moulds” (that’s not a typo on my part) is also shown with what looks like a man in a dress holding a sledgehammer. To be fair, though, it’s hard to tell. Which I guess is the point of the ad?

MSNBC contributor Jennifer Rubin is encouraging a boycott of “Morning Joe” after its hosts revealed they had a meeting with President-elect Donald Trump.

“Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, two of Trump’s fiercest critics, shocked the nation on Monday by disclosing their visit to Mar-a-Lago on Friday, suggesting that reviving communications and extending an olive branch was the best path forward following Trump’s historic election victory.

“Disgusting,” Rubin reacted to the meeting on the social media platform Bluesky.

Rubin later ratcheted up the rhetoric, encouraging her followers to turn off “Morning Joe” to send a message.

“The market works great. You can stop watching Morning Joe anytime,” Rubin wrote Monday evening.

I’m totally convinced by Rubin’s argument, to the point where I stopped watching shortly before Morning Joe debuted in April of 2007.

Say, when does Rubin resign from the Washington Post for their non-endorsement of Kamala Harris, after she egged on L.A. Times staffers to resign when their paper’s management similarly refused to endorse her last month?

In response to Sewell Chan’s resignation from the Times, she wrote, “Bravo. All respect.” Followed by, “and where are the rest of them?”

The implication is clear: now that her paper, too, is refusing to endorse the sainted Kamala Harris, Rubin must be set to join the charge of resignations in disgust, along with Robert Kagan, as a sort-of Potomac Joan of Arc. The prospect brings a tear to Cockburn’s eye. Such bravery.

Assuming it actually arrives in theaters at all; Disney could still do a Batgirl on the project and toss it down the memory hole. As Ed Morrissey wrote on Friday after Zegler’s faux-pology, “I doubt this apology will do much to ameliorate it, which raises the question of whether Disney will release Snow White at all. The added costs of distribution and marketing will make this a $500M release, with almost no hope of recouping much. Is it better to Batgirl it and get the insurance payout?”

The NFL has a mechanism for when prime time games aren’t as important as they’re supposed to be late in the year. Networks like ESPN can work with the league to “flex” the game out of the time slot and replace it with a more enticing contest. Thus, after the Bengals lost to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday evening to fall to 4-7, many expected Bengals-Cowboys to be flexed out and replaced by a more competitive matchup.

And normally, it would be! But on Monday it was revealed the game can’t be flexed out for a truly hilarious and unexpected reason: The Simpsons.

ESPN and Disney have been planning a Simpsons alternate cast for the December 9 Monday Night Football game and apparently it is standing in the way of the game being replaced.

“For those asking, the Bengals-Cowboys MNF game is not eligible to be flexed out because of all the drawings, voiceovers and other work that has been done for The Simpsons alt-cast that will air that night,” reports Bengals beat writer Jay Morrison of BengalsTalk.com.

Who would have guessed that Homer Simpson would be the reason millions would be subjected to a subpar football game instead of one with stakes and quality play?

What a world.

Chris Anderson, the owner of Redwood Roots distribution in Humboldt County, can pinpoint the exact moment California’s small farmers were first betrayed. It was in November 2017, two months before legal sales were to begin, and the California Department of Food and Agriculture released rules that shocked the farming community: The state would allow legal pot farms to grow as large as they want.

“That was a monstrous problem,” Anderson told SFGATE. “That is where the collapse of the marketplace and oversupply came from.”

Keeping legal pot farms small was a key promise made to Northern California’s legacy farmers. Proposition 64, the initiative that legalized cannabis, blocked any farm from growing larger than 1 acre for the first five years of legalization. California’s pioneering pot farmers use small plots of land, and were worried they couldn’t compete against mega farms. They wanted five years to get a running start before large farms were legal, but suddenly that head start was taken away.

It’s still unclear why the state erased the 1-acre cap. Large farming interests in the Salinas Valley and Santa Barbara appear to have lobbied for the effort, according to reporting by Leafly News in 2017. A spokesperson for the state’s Department of Food and Agriculture said they changed the rule based on input from unnamed stakeholders.

The DCC said in a statement to SFGATE that Newsom, who was lieutenant governor in 2017, did not have authority over the decision nor did he endorse the change. But Newsom also declined to argue against it when asked by the San Francisco Chronicle at the time. (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.)

Judi Nelson, the owner of Sol Spirit Farm in Trinity County, said she supported the law largely because of the acreage cap, and can still remember Newsom making that promise when he visited Humboldt County.

“Newsom came up and stood there with us and said to our faces there was going to be this 1 acre cap,” Nelson said.

Sweden is sending out five million pamphlets to residents urging them to prepare for the possibility of war, with instructions on how to stockpile food and even seek shelter during a nuclear attack, as fears grow of a conflict between Russia and NATO.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Stockholm has repeatedly urged Swedes to prepare both mentally and logistically for a possibile conflict, citing the worsening security situation in its vicinity.

The booklet ‘If Crisis or War Comes’, sent out by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), contains information about how to prepare for emergencies such as war, natural disasters, cyber attacks and terrorism.

It is an updated version of a pamphlet that Sweden has issued five times since World War II. However, underlining the seriousness of the potential threat, the pamphlet is twice the size of previous years.

‘An insecure world requires preparedness. The military threat to Sweden has increased and we must prepare for the worst – an armed attack,’ its new introduction states.

In one of the more worrying excerpts, which harks back to advice given by governments during the darkest days of the Cold War, it informs people of the risk of nuclear weapons.

‘The global security situation increases the risks that nuclear weapons could be used. In the event of an attack with nuclear, biological or chemical weapons, take cover in the same way as in an air attack,’ the pamphlet instructs readers.

WE’VE DESCENDED INTO SOME SORT OF BIZARRE HELL-WORLD IN WHICH JUSTINE BATEMAN IS A VOICE OF SANITY: The Case of Justine Bateman—And Why Gen X Broke for Trump.

One of the biggest headlines to come out of the recent election is that Gen X—hardly nationalist or populist—broke for Trump. Broke hard—backing him by 10 points. (Boomers, by contrast, split their vote between Trump and Kamala Harris.) Maybe part of it was that we had grown up in a distinctly unpolitical moment, when there were no wars to protest and no civil rights to champion. There was, about us, an all-pervasive don’t-give-a-shit quality, and it was reflected in our Ray-Bans, our irony, our apathy. Mostly, we wanted to be left alone—by our parents, by the sex ed counselors preaching abstinence, by Nancy Reagan telling us to “Just say no.” We were, for the most part, ideologically committed to nothing.

Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, Bateman told me when we spoke last week via Zoom, she never gave politics much thought. It was “like one tiny part of you, one grain of sand on a huge beach.”

She said she started to notice a change in the political climate around 2012. Although she initially felt that Black Lives Matter and #MeToo “were important movements,” she concluded that eventually, “there was an overgrowth of people wanting to be part of it, wanting to qualify, and the qualifications for these particular hashtags became wider and wider, and more diluted.”

In other words, it went too far, became too extreme—especially the #MeToo movement, “with people going, ‘Oh, I want to be part of that, but I don’t know that I qualify,’ and then other women talking you into it, saying, ‘No, you have been sexually assaulted, you just repressed it.’ ”

Then came 2020: the pandemic, George Floyd, the riots, the groupthink—“these people necessitating that I think like them, and policing what people say, and what they tweet, and what they like on a social media post.”

She hated the rise of the progressive mob. It was antithetical to everything she believed in. “The only way you get that kind of momentum behind destroying peoples’ lives is when you have a mob mentality,” Bateman said. “I felt like the fact that Trump won cut the momentum of that mob mentality.”

When I asked Bateman why she had “come out,” as it were, on X, why she’d decided to make herself something of a pariah in uber-progressive Hollywood, she said: “Everyone should be able to live their life the way they want to, without infringing on somebody else’s ability to freely live their life the way they want, and that’s the whole thing. You follow that within a society, and you’re golden—you know what I mean? You can’t fail.”

She didn’t want to say whether she’d voted for Trump. “I’m just not playing that game. I don’t want to participate in that, like, ‘Okay, here we go, we can put you in this box.’ ” Nor did she want to say what her brother, the star of the Emmy-winning series Ozark, thought of his sister coming out of the “political closet.”

On election day, historian Jon Meachem appeared on Morning Joe and suggested Trump would ban historians from writing books if he returns to office and likened him to fascist dictators.

In an interview with NBC News Clyburn (D-SC) compared President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler, saying the president and his family are the “biggest threat to democracy” in his lifetime.

Hilariously in retrospect, Clyburn compared Trump to Hitler on the eve of Dr. Fauci’s lockdown of the entire country: “Why Is Rep. Clyburn Allowed To Use The Holocaust As A Political Weapon? Where’s The Media?”, Dunetz asked on March 16^th, 2020:

It’s a basic rule of American politics, never use the Holocaust or any of its related terms such as Nazis or Hitler, for political warfare. The Holocaust is a singular event in world history and not just because of its scale and inhuman horror. Yes, there have been, and sadly will be other genocides of other groups, and there have even been other atrocities against the Jewish people.  But generally, a genocide is waged to suppress a group, keep them out of a countries politics, or to take their land or some other economic reason.  The Holocaust was different– the Jews targeted by Hitler, and the Nazis had no desires to take over the country’s land and held relatively little power–they were just hated. UPDATE: Trump gives RFK Jr McDonald’s ‘poison’ to eat on private plane.

RFK Jr was highly critical of the modern diet during the election campaign, vowing to “Make America Healthy Again”, and even described Mr Trump’s diet as “really bad”.

“Campaign food is always bad, but the food that goes on to [Trump Force One] is, like, just poison,” the 70-year-old told podcaster Joe Polish on Monday.

“You have a choice between – you don’t have the choice, you’re either given KFC or Big Macs. That’s when you’re lucky, and then the rest of the stuff I consider kind of inedible.”

Reaction to the photograph was swift on social media, with users – including Mr Trump’s own son – pointing out the irony of RFK Jr posing with a McDonald’s meal.

RFK Jr. certainly doesn’t look happy in the above photo, a post-election rerun of when John Kerry and John Edwards posed stiffly at a Wendy’s during the 2004 campaign for a photo-op, but as Mark Steyn wrote in August of 2004, the Wendy’s meals were simply campaign props:

It then emerged that Wendy’s had just been an appetiser. The campaign advance team had ordered 19 five-star lunches from the Newburgh Yacht Club for Kerry, Edwards, Affleck and co to be served back on the bus: shrimp vindaloo, grilled diver sea scallops, prosciutto, wrapped stuffed chicken, etc.

I’m not sure whether Ben had the shrimp and Teresa the scallops, but, either way, it turns out John Edwards is right: there are two Americas – one America where folks eat at Wendy’s, another America where the elite pass an amusing half-hour slumming among the folks at Wendy’s and then chow down on the Newburgh Yacht Club’s specials of the day. The Elizabeth Edwards anniversary-at-Wendy’s shtick was meant to emphasise her husband’s authenticity, but it now looks as inauthentic as Kerry’s own blundering “regular guy” routine.
