BY DESIGN: The Obamacare Sweeteners Poisoning Budget Negotiations.

Halloween could come early this year. The Democrats have named their price to avoid a government shutdown come October – an additional $350 billion for healthcare over the next decade. Critics say a big chunk of that money may go to ghosts.

At issue are the generous subsidies the Biden administration created for Affordable Care Act policies, sweeteners that are slated to expire in December. Making healthcare essentially free for millions of Americans, those policies have skyrocketed enrollment in Obamacare plans. But a recent study found they have also sparked a curious phenomenon: an estimated 12 million enrollees “without a single claim – no doctor visit, lab test, or prescription filled” in 2024.

The Paragon Health Institute study reports that this is triple the number of no-claim policyholders before the Biden sweeteners were put in place. “Among those now eligible for zero-premium plans with low or no deductible,” the study found, “that number increased nearly sevenfold. … A whopping 40 percent of enrollees in fully subsidized plans had no claims in 2024. In 2024 alone, taxpayers sent at least $35 billion to insurers for people who paid no premiums and never used their plan,” the report said.

The whole program needs to be killed.

THEY ACTUALLY TRAINED FOR THIS POSSIBILITY: F-15Es Tried To Shoot Down Iranian Kamikaze Drones With Laser Guided Bombs.

“I’ve dropped a lot of JDAMs in my career. … I have dropped a JDAM on a moving vehicle in the past,” he said. “So now I’m thinking, okay, if I’m out of missiles, what am I going to do? Like, this thing, this drone, it’s near the ground, it’s low altitude, but it’s not on the ground. It’s moving a little bit faster than the vehicles we usually train against, but it’s not moving that much faster. And so, thinking through what changes do I need to make to my current procedures to do this?”

“We had shot all of our missiles. We’d gone all the way to the east. We turned around. We’d come back to the west. We’ve shot some more missiles. We find another drone,” he continued. “We just set it up, just like we would in attacking a car, and we made a few key changes to the actual procedure. And so we drop the bomb. Bomb comes off normal, normal [sic].”

“So, like the drones going this way. So we’ve swooped in, we’ve dropped a bomb, and then now we’re lazing it,” he added. “The bomb, it looks like it hits, big explosion. And I was like, hit. And then just out of this massive cloud, like in Star Wars, just here comes the drone, just right out of the cloud. And I was like, oh, miss.”

The decision was made to not attempt a second bombing run on the drone. Two other separate unsuccessful attempts were made to down Iranian drones using laser-guided bombs.

“They missed further than I did. Mine was the closest, just to be very clear,” Causey said.

Nice try, but lobbing laser-guided bombs at drones goes to show how unprepared we are for the threat.

NICE WORK: Twenty Years After Katrina Gun Confiscations, Gun Rights Orgs Still Fighting to Protect Americans’ Gun Rights.

Twenty years ago, as the residents of New Orleans were reeling in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin and Police Superintendent P. Edwin Compass III ordered law enforcement officers to seize lawfully owned firearms from civilians stating at the time “Only law enforcement will be allowed to have guns.”

The Second Amendment Foundation, along with the National Rifle Association, filed suit against the city and, 20 years ago today, were granted a consent order forcing law enforcement to immediately stop confiscating firearms. Thanks to the continued work of SAF and the NRA after Katrina, President George W. Bush signed the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, which included provisions prohibiting the seizure of legally owned firearms during emergencies.

“In the aftermath of one of the worse natural disasters this country has ever seen, the mayor and law enforcement in New Orleans unthinkably decided to go door-to-door confiscating firearms when citizens needed them most,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “This case serves as a great reminder of why SAF must continue its critical work. The Second Amendment rights of American citizens cannot be wiped away just because a handful of people want to disarm a population.”

In the 20 years since the unthinkable Second Amendment violation in New Orleans, SAF continues to fight those who wish to trample our right to keep and bear arms.

Katrina was a real wakeup call for how far Democrats would go to violate civil rights, and how low the media (but I repeat myself) would stoop to smear a Republican president.

CAVING ON ILLEGALS IS NOT WHAT WE VOTED FOR:

WELL, THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY, YOU KNOW: Aggressor Satellites That Replicate Enemy Ones On Space Force’s Buy List.

Space Force’s Guardians may execute a full-time remote mission from their stations on the ground, but the service’s top officer wants to take more training out of the virtual realm. In part, this would occur by deploying actual aggressor satellites in orbit in a similar manner to how the USAF flies aggressor fighters with specially trained pilots that mimic the enemy’s tactics and capabilities against its flight crews.

In a round table with reporters at the Air Force Association’s Air, Space and Cyber conference on Tuesday, Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman elaborated on Space Force’s plans to expand its operational test and training infrastructure (OTTI). He believes doing so will enhance Guardians’ experience, bring them closer to the fight, and highlight the realities of competing against an adversary, like China, with their heavy interest in disabling and destroying U.S. space assets.

Two weeks ago, Space Force stood up System Delta 81, a task-oriented unit focused on aligning acquisition efforts with operational test and training. On Tuesday, Saltzman outlined plans to improve the “Guardian experience” in the OTTI space.

How many current advances would be unthinkable without Starship (hopefully) coming into service in the next couple of years?

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Is Lucy Holding the Football With the Latest Comey News? “This is one of those situations where I would love it if you could all pile on and say, ‘You were wrong, Kruiser!’ I’m just not sure that our Comey orange jumpsuit dreams are going to come true. Let’s just say that my skepticism about the judiciary swells with every passing day. Our only hope at this point is that some of them get it right.”

JON CALDARA: ‘Trust but verify’ on privately financed Broncos stadium.

If they are good to their word, it will be a refreshing and rare example of an ownership group respecting both taxpayers and fans. Their announcement caught me off-guard. Even I had to be impressed.

But until the entire deal is signed in permanent ink, I will take my lead from Ronald Reagan to “trust but verify.” In other words, let’s see the details

The joint statement from the Broncos’ owners, the governor and the mayor of Denver was, after all, a well word-smithed work of craftsmanship: “In the spirit of a true civic partnership, the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group will privately fund this investment and work with the community, city and state to reconnect historic neighborhoods — with no new taxes.”

The magic words of course being, “with no new taxes.” These words have been used before to lull voters into whopping tax increases. In fact, the Denver Broncos under its previous ownership used that very phrase to get us to pay for their current stadium.

After Coors Field was basically paid for, meaning the 0.1% sales tax was set to expire, voters were asked to continue that tax to pay for Sports Authority-Invesco-Empower-Acme-Explosives-and-Road-Runner-Traps Field at Mile High.

If you keep a current tax from sunsetting, can you with a straight face say that it’s not a new tax? Bond dealers can. But of course, it’s a new tax.

Publicly financed stadiums are how billionaires get fans to pay for the very same stadium they’ll then overcharge fans to get into.

If things are changing on that score in Denver, great — but it still might be a long time before they tempt me into dropping mid-three figures to see mostly-OK football.

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ANTIFA AND FASCISTS IS THE COLOR OF THEIR SHIRTS: Antifa is a ‘fascist organisation’ that beat their opponents to a ‘pulp.’

Author Douglas Murray says Antifa is a “fascist organisation” that beat their opponents to a “pulp”.

“Antifa has been allowed to run because too many people have taken it at its word that it is an anti-Fascist organisation, it isn’t, it’s a fascist organisation,” Mr Murray told Sky News host Rita Panahi.

“They dress up in black, they mask their faces, and they beat their opponents to a pulp on the ground in American cities.

“The left really should … look at what it’s been encouraging.”

How many lefties watched the assassination of Charlie Kirk and cheered?

THE LEFT IS ALL-IN ON THIS STUFF: Ted Cruz Rips Into Leftists Over ‘Rhetoric’ Following ICE Facility Shooting: ‘This Needs to Stop.’

“This needs to stop. Violence is wrong. Politically motivated violence is wrong. It was two weeks ago today that we saw a political assassination in Utah that tore the heart out of much of this country. This is the third shooting in Texas directed at ICE or CBP. This must stop,” Cruz said, with more than a tinge of frustration.

“To every politician who is using rhetoric demonizing ICE and demonizing CBP, stop,” he added. “To every politician demanding that ICE agents be doxxed and calling for people to go after their families, stop. This has very real consequences. Look, in America, we disagree, that’s fine, that’s the democratic process, but your political opponents are not Nazis. We need to learn to work together without demonizing each other, without attacking each other.”

To lightly paraphrase what Clarice Starling said of serial killer Jame Gumb, “They’ve got a real taste for it now.”

SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO TUCKER?

CHANGE (IT BACK): U.S. Ed Dept will fund ‘unifying, uplifting’ civics, history lessons.

“Civics is largely a bipartisan priority, but debates about how the subject should be taught often break down along partisan lines,” writes Schwartz. Republican state legislators have focused on building civic knowledge and pride, and opposed attempts to engage students in lobbying local officials or working on solutions to local problems. They think “action civics,” as it’s known, means turning students into activists for their teacher’s favored causes.

National education groups have designed guidelines that try “to chart a middle path, emphasizing the importance of building both civic knowledge and civic dispositions,” she writes.

Trump’s America 250 group is certain to run into the same credibility problems as the 1776 Commission. “The membership of this coalition seems to represent one side of the aisle,” Louise Dubé, the CEO of iCivics, a civic education nonprofit, told Education Week. “We understand that this is an open coalition, and we believe it would be useful to our country to integrate more balance of perspectives so that we can as a nation exercise reflective patriotism at this critical time.”

I like patriotism, and I prefer it without foam at the mouth or self-flagellation. I hope the great normie center can decide to celebrate this anniversary in a unifying, uplifting and reflective way. There are a lot of us sane people.

But are there enough of us teaching K-12?

CORN, POPPED: Tables Turned on This Year’s Shutdown Theater. ”When you talk about the Freedom Caucus talking about passing a CR [Continuing Resolution] and the Democrats saying, ‘I’m going to shut down the government.’ I’ve never seen anything so weird in my life.”

PSST! Come Read Antifa’s Official Insurrection Guidelines. “While leftwing midwits like Chuck Todd brayed things like ‘I don’t even know what Antifa is. I know what the definition of Antifa is. There is no group!’ the group was busy putting together promotional materials for new members.”

SARAH HOYT’S SHOCKED FACE IS IN A HERMETICALLY SEALED ENVELOPE KEPT IN A #2 MAYONNAISE JAR ON FUNK AND WAGNALL’S PORCH: Jimmy Kimmel Proves He’s a Free Speech Fraud. “The Biden administration crushed free speech, and because it mostly impacted conservatives, Kimmel looked the other way. Then and now.”
