HOW IT STARTED: Sir Keir Starmer has removed portraits of Winston Churchill, the Duke of Wellington, and more British heroes from the Houses of Parliament.

—GB News, February 24th, 2025.

How it’s going:

Last month when CBS’s Margaret Brennan absurdly claimed to Marco Rubio that JD Vance “was standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to conduct a genocide,” Mark Steyn responded, “I did not think it was possible to despise the ‘mainstream’ media more than I already did. In a society thoroughly moronized by Brain-Dead Brennan and her ilk, Hitler is the sole remaining historical figure anybody’s heard of.”

Churchill only hangs on in history as the man who defeated him; just don’t mention him to Barack Obama, Tucker Carlson — and Starmer’s foreign secretary: ‘Key moment’ — David Lammy ridiculed for not knowing when Churchill became Prime Minister.

MAKE APPLE GREAT AGAIN: Apple Delays Siri Upgrade Indefinitely as AI Concerns Escalate.

Apple Inc.’s turmoil in its AI division reached new heights on Friday, with the company delaying promised updates to the Siri digital assistant for the foreseeable future.

Apple said that features introduced last June, including Siri’s ability to tap into a user’s personal information to answer queries and have more precise control over apps, will now be released sometime in “the coming year.” The iPhone maker hadn’t previously set a public deadline for the capabilities, but they were initially planned for the iOS 18.4 software update this April.

Bloomberg News reported on Feb. 14 that Apple was struggling to finish developing the features and the enhancements would be postponed until at least May — when iOS 18.5 is due to arrive. Since then, Apple engineers have been racing to fix a rash of bugs in the project. The work has been unsuccessful, according to people involved in the efforts, and they now believe the features won’t be released until next year at the earliest.

In the lead-up to the latest delay, software chief Craig Federighi and other executives voiced strong concerns internally that the features didn’t work properly — or as advertised — in their personal testing, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing internal matters. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment.

As a result: Apple Likely Targeting iOS 19 for Delayed Siri Features. “Further, both Reuters and CNBC interpreted Apple’s statement as a delay of the ‌Siri‌ features until 2026, and wrote headlines stating as much. If Apple was only counting on a delay of a couple of months, it’s likely the company would correct the 2026 assumption, but Apple has offered no further clarification nor has it asked for those sites to change their wording. We’ll get the first ‌iOS 19‌ update in September 2025 alongside new iPhones, so if 2026 ends up being accurate, the ‌Siri‌ features might not even come in the ‌iOS 19‌ release. They’ll instead be slated for a future ‌iOS 19‌ update, perhaps iOS 19.2 or iOS 19.3.”

PALLYWOOD: THE MOTION PICTURE.

ONLY WATCHABLE TALKING HEAD ON CNN TO RECEIVE WELL-DESERVED RAISE: CNN to hand pro-Trump pundit Scott Jennings big pay raise as part of new deal: report.

CNN is on the verge of finalizing a lucrative new contract for conservative commentator Scott Jennings, a move that demonstrates the left-leaning network’s recognition of his growing influence and appeal among supporters of President Trump, according to a report.

Jennings, a veteran political strategist and respected voice in Republican circles whose analysis serves as a counterweight to the network’s often left-leaning discussions, is set to receive a substantial pay increase, according to the Status newsletter.

Specific terms of Jennings’ reported compensation boost couldn’t immediately be learned.

The new contract for Jennings, who has been mentioned as a possible candidate to succeed retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), is testament to his growing popularity among Trump supporters on social media who routinely post clips of his contentious interactions with co-panelists.

As Charles Krauthammer famously remarked about Fox News, “the genius of Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes was to have discovered a niche market in American broadcasting — half the American people.” Why is CNN shocked when someone comes along who speaks for them — and routinely wins the argument — on their network?

MATTHEW CONTINETTI: The Democrats’ Identity Crisis.

The Democratic Party has a split personality. It was on full display Tuesday night.

Face one: wacky, ideologically fevered, performatively outraged. Face two: collected, reassuring, conventional—and utterly misleading.

The split reflects a deeper problem. Democrats have no power, no leader, no role, no identity. Their presidential candidate lost every swing state and the popular vote. Their reputation is at its lowest level in decades. They are divided: Go wild, or stick with the old playbook?

The House Democrats chose derangement. As President Trump delivered his address to Congress, my eyes remained fixed on the House floor. There was no escaping the Democrats’ hysterical display.

It was a mass psychic breakdown—the political equivalent of the airline steward who, after his flight had landed, announced to the cabin that he was quitting his job, guzzled two beers, opened the emergency exit, and slid to the tarmac on the evacuation chute.

The theatrics began when Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D., N.M.) held a small card that read “This is not normal” above President Trump’s shoulder as he walked down the aisle to the House rostrum. She might as well have held bunny ears behind him. What was she thinking? Voters are used to Trump. They’ve elected him twice. What isn’t normal is Stansbury’s stunt.

Her colleagues were even less restrained. Rep. Al Green (D., Texas) was ejected from the chamber—and subsequently censured by the House—for heckling Trump at the speech’s outset. The image of the 77-year-old Green screaming and shaking his cane at the president was partly disturbing but mostly pathetic. He embodied the “old man yells at cloud” meme.

Speaking of memes, this was the video the Democrats released the following day: Uh Oh! Even Jimmy Kimmel is Mocking the Democrats’ Cringe-Tastic Behavior.

Meanwhile, Rosa DeLauro (D-Gotham City) continues her quest to appear like a Batman supervillian:

How bad are the above videos They’re so bad that they easily make Donald Trump appear to be the grownup in Washington: Fixed It for You! Trump’s WH Responds to Democrat’s Cringe ‘Fighter’ Video and It’s Perfection (Watch).

Finally, regarding the left’s current identity crisis: Tim Walz stumped with blank stare when questioned on who leads the Democratic Party.

JIM TREACHER: A Few Other Ways Gavin Newsom Can Pretend to Be Normal.

This week Newsom debuted a podcast, where he promises to talk to people who disagree with him. His first guest was Charlie Kirk, so obviously he meant it. And during their conversation, Newsom finally admitted it’s wrong to make girls compete against boys in sports.

Finally, a prominent Democrat is willing to say the obvious out loud.

Clearly, this is just the opening salvo of a Newsom presidential campaign in 2028. He’s pivoting to the center, as the pundits say.

So here are some fake images of the greasy-haired Adonis pretending to be a normal American, now that he realizes the entire Democrat agenda is electoral poison and his political career is over if he doesn’t start trying to act normal, pronto.

Minding His Own Damn Business

This last one is my favorite. Can you even imagine a politician just leaving you alone and not telling you how to live your life? I can dream, can’t I?

AI artwork is pretty astonishing, but it doesn’t yet have the level of science fiction required to get me to think of Gavin Newsom and Calvin Coolidge as being part of the same species, let alone in the same sentence.

TYLER O’NEIL: Blue State’s ‘Domestic Extremism’ Task Force Stacked With Leftist Groups, Critics Fear.

Washington state has launched a domestic extremism task force, and conservatives are sounding the alarm about task force members’ ties to an organization notorious for branding mainstream conservative and Christian organizations as “hate groups.”

State Senate Bill 5950, signed by then-Gov. Jay Inslee, a Democrat, on April 1, 2024, established a “Domestic Extremism and Mass Violence Task Force,” which will recommend changes to state law.

The task force includes many left-wing groups with ties to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit law firm that sued KKK chapters into bankruptcy and now publishes a “hate map” that includes parental rights groups such as Moms for Liberty, law firms such as Alliance Defending Freedom, and Christian groups such as the Family Research Council alongside Klan chapters. The SPLC’s accusation against the Family Research Council inspired a domestic terrorism attack in 2012.

“It’s self-evident how this entity is very dangerous to people of faith, to institutions that have a conservative worldview,” Brad Dacus, president and founder of the Pacific Justice Institute, told The Daily Signal in an interview Tuesday. The SPLC brands Pacific Justice Institute an “anti-LGBTQ+ hate group” because it opposes the LGBTQ agenda.

GET READY FOR THE DEMOCRATIC RETREAT ON TRANS ATHLETES:

Newsom has been governor of California for six years, two months, and one day. At no point in that six-year-and-change span did Newsom express even a peep of objection to that law or policy — right up until the moment Newsom sat down for the inaugural edition of his podcast with Charlie Kirk. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the California governor claimed that for years, he had thought the policy was unfair to women athletes:

* * * * * * * *

Based on Newsom’s sudden about-face, it’s entirely possible that five years from now, Democrats will act like they’ve always opposed transgender athletes participating in women’s sports. These days you don’t find many Democrats arguing that Covid lockdowns were awesome, that keeping kids out of school for at least a year was harmless, that people ought to be fired if they don’t take the Covid vaccine, or that the lab leak was a crazy xenophobic conspiracy theory. When Democrats abandon a position, they count on mass amnesia over their old stances and often get away with it.

GET WOKE, GO…: How Disney’s Snow White remake became a $270 million headache.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, what’s the most contentious blockbuster of them all? On any list of the most trouble-plagued releases in recent Hollywood history, Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs would surely rank heigh-ho, heigh-ho highly. The $270 million-budget spectacle, starring Rachel Zegler as the storybook princess, finally hits cinemas this month after four years of seemingly never-ending online fury and negative news stories.

From calls to boycott the film and attacks over its alleged “f______ backward” depiction of little people, all the way to the sight this weekend of the movie’s two biggest stars onstage at the Oscars, supposedly refusing to make eye contact with each other over disagreements about Gaza, this is a film beset by controversies. Controversies that, even with a magical, fortune-telling looking-glass like the one hung in the Evil Queen’s castle, Disney could hardly have seen coming.

* * * * * * * * *

In 2023, Zegler was further attacked for appearing to criticise the 1937 Snow White, which she labelled “extremely dated when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for” in an interview at Disney’s D23 convention. The original film was, by today’s standards of consent, a “love story with a guy who literally stalks her,” she explained. The upcoming modern rework of the tale, the actress announced, would feature a more empowered princess, who’s “not going to be saved by the prince”.

Flash-forward to this year, when after a pair of disastrous trailers in 2024 were met with over one million dislikes each on YouTube, Disney is now incorporating footage from the original Snow White in their newest ads:

HITLER ALL THE WAY DOWN:

The grotesque banalization of Hitler and Hitlerism proceeds apace. The American Left’s discourse is replete with comparisons of President Donald J. Trump to Adolf Hitler and constant evocations of a dangerous “fascist” threat to democracy supposedly coming from an altogether illiberal Right. Kamala Harris labeled Trump a fascist and Nazi sympathizer in a CNN town hall meeting in October, and she and the mainstream media continued to pile on until the November election.

When Trump held a rally at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on October 27, a little over a week before the election, many Democrats, and the increasingly hysterical talking heads on CNN and MSNBC, compared that rally to a meeting of the pro-Nazi German-American Bund in that same venue in 1939. Completely disregarding the impressively multiracial character of the MAGA supporters gathered to hear Trump, as well as the large contingent of Orthodox and Hassidic Jews also in attendance, the media incessantly identified Trump with Hitler and “fascism.” Not only was the deep-seated evil that was National Socialism trivialized beyond recognition, and not only was fascism crudely (and absurdly) identified with any opposition to a hard Left agenda, but crucial distinctions between fascism, National Socialism, and democratic conservatism were elided in a deeply misleading manner.

This drumbeat continues to this day. The Trump/fascism/Nazism elision is commonplace in leftist discourse. An article in the Harvard Political Review from January attempts to give scholarly cover to this type of defamation: “Trump Rhetoric Echoes Hitler.” The author takes it for granted that Trump is a racist anti-Semite, and that he hates immigrants tout court. The fact he has built a large and varied multiracial political coalition is passed over in silence, as is his warm relationship with Israel. Trump, it is said, “is unfit to serve as the president of a nation founded upon the celebration of racial, ethnic, and cultural heterogeneity.” While it is true that the Founders loathed chattel slavery and declared that “all men are created equal,” dogmatic multiculturalism was not their vision of American self-government.

Just the other day Kamala Harris’s running mate, Tim Walz, bemoaned the fact that the country was in the process of being “stolen by fascists and Nazis.” Even though a storm of criticism was directed his way, Walz has since refused to apologize. He even had the chutzpah to say he did not have Republicans in mind.

Examples of this reductio ad Hitlerum, as Leo Strauss once suggestively called it, are legion and are likely to continue for a very long time to come, thus compounding the damage. As Dennis Prager (himself Jewish) argued in an insightful syndicated column published on election day, immense moral and civic damage has been done to our country by leftists insisting on “calling Donald Trump a fascist and a Nazi and declaring him ‘Hitler.’” Prager points out that “if Trump is Hitler, then Hitler was Trump. Hitler was nothing worse than a German version of Trump—not the instigator of World War II and the creator of the Holocaust; just a German Donald Trump.”

Don’t overthink it; last month when CBS’s Margaret Brennan absurdly claimed to Marco Rubio that JD Vance “was standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to conduct a genocide,” Mark Steyn responded, “I did not think it was possible to despise the ‘mainstream’ media more than I already did. In a society thoroughly moronized by Brain-Dead Brennan and her ilk, Hitler is the sole remaining historical figure anybody’s heard of. And they can’t even get that right. ‘Weaponising’ free speech? What does that even mean? In Germany, tweets get you gaoled but rape is just part of your ‘cultural tradition’. And CBS News knows which side it’s on.”

QUESTION ASKED AND ANSWERED:

Because the woke mind virus will do that to you: George Floyd death: Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer takes a knee in support of Black Lives Matter movement.

HE’S RUNNING: Newsom Calls Male Participation in Female Sports ‘Deeply Unfair,’ Highlighting Split in Democratic Party.

Governor Gavin Newsom diverged from the Democratic Party’s commitment to let transgender-identifying male athletes participate in female sports this week when he acknowledged that it was “deeply unfair” for women.

“I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness — it’s deeply unfair,” the California Democrat said in the first episode of his new podcast. “I am not wrestling with the fairness issue. I totally agree with you.”

Newsom made the shocking admission while speaking with conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, who pressed his progressive host to step up when it comes to upholding the sanctity of women’s sports. Politico first reported on his remarks.

“I revere sports, so the issue of fairness is completely legit,” Newsom continued. “And I saw that — the last couple years, boy did I [see] how you guys were able to weaponize that issue at another level.” After Kirk challenged him on the characterization, Newsom replaced the word “weaponize” with “highlight.”

The governor has signed numerous bills into law advancing the transgender ideology in California, including legislation that bans school districts from requiring staff to notify parents in the event their child identifies as transgender.

Before Newsom’s tenure, the blue state already had a law on the books that allowed men to compete with women in college and youth sports and allowed transgender students to use school restrooms that align with their gender identity. That law was signed by the former governor, Jerry Brown, in 2014.

When does the rubber meet the road, though?

ROGER SIMON: Can a Political Party Have a Personality Disorder?

Who are those people, I wondered Tuesday night, as I watched the Democrats sit on their hands when brain cancer victim 13-year-old Devarjaye “D.J.” Daniel was recognized as an honorary Secret Service agent?

But that was only one moment in a litany of similar nauseating reactions, or lack thereof, during President Trump’s first address to Congress for his second term.

And that’s not counting Al Green’s sad acting out that resulted in his ejection. Mr. Green needs help but is unlikely to get it.

I had to shake myself to remember I was once a Democrat in what seems like the Paleolithic Age but was actually a tad less than twenty-five years ago., scarcely a minute in human time.

Nevertheless, the party I left, even though it was trending in the wrong direction, didn’t seem much like what I was watching now. What had happened? Why did they all behave like sullen children without an ounce of optimism for the future?

MSNBC GHOULS ARE KILLING THEIR NETWORK:

Nicolle Wallace, while talking to Rachel Maddow, crossed so far into the ghoul zone during President Trump’s address to Congress that she may never get out. Her comments make crazy Al Green’s expulsion from the audience last night seem like the normal garden variety nuttiness one expects from congressional hacks.

Last night, these gals sank their teeth into a 13-year-old boy, Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel. He made the mistake of being honored by President Trump after recovering from a brain tumor and multiple surgeries. You know, the young man who always wanted to be a police officer. The young man who made grown men cry and women weep when he was enrolled as an honorary Secret Service Agent and then gave the agent enrolling him a big hug.

Well, so much for that person of color. And don’t let your lying eyes linger on that great big proud dad with his du-rag and white cowboy hat — the one who lifted his son so high in the air that he could see everyone, and they could see him as the president honored him.

Wallace, in her twisted way, managed to tie this human interest story into January 6, seditious conspiracy, and police suicides. Donald Trump is the undying villain in her fantasy world. Poor DJ was only 9 years old back then, so yes, it is sick out there and getting sicker. And Wallace is the poster girl for this.

Here are her words about DJ and his aspiration to be a police officer: “I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer, but I hope he never has to defend the United States and Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters. And if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide. And I hope he isn’t one who has to testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then lives to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”

This is a classic example of the heartless Washington media ghoul at work. She is challenging her audience to suppress their human emotions. She is reminding them to be clear-sighted and remember that their human compassion might mislead them into thinking even one good thought about the pure evil that is Donald Trump. These emotions need to be nipped in the bud in order to prevail politically.

Of course, craziness abounds at the Comcast-owned cable network:

OLD AND BUSTED: 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The New Hotness? 1915: An AI Odyssey. The LA Times’ new AI tool sympathized with the KKK. Its owner wasn’t aware until hours later.

The Los Angeles Times’ billionaire owner, who unveiled an AI tool that generates opposing perspectives to be displayed on opinion stories, was unaware the new tool had created pro-KKK arguments less than 24 hours after it launched — and hours after the AI comments had been taken down. The incident presents a massive hurdle for the Times, which looks to win back old subscribers and woo new ones with a new suite of offerings.

During an interview with CNN on Tuesday, Patrick Soon-Shiong, the Times’ executive chairman, admitted he had seen neither the piece nor the AI response. But he said the content’s removal showed that there are operational “checks and balances” to the recently introduced system, pegging the moment as a learning opportunity.

“(The incident is) a good lesson to show that at least artificial intelligence is not fully there yet (…) it’s in an attempt to understand that,” Soon-Shiong said.

On early Tuesday, the new AI tool generated counterpoints to a February 25 column from Times columnist Gustavo Arellano. Arellano’s column argued that Anaheim, California, ought to not forget the Ku Klux Klan’s role in its past — calling the white supremacist group “a stain on a place that likes to celebrate the positive” — and connecting it to today’s political landscape. But the divergent views generated by the Times’ AI produced a softer vision of the far-right* group, which it called “‘white Protestant culture’ responding to societal changes rather than an explicitly hate-driven movement.”

* Far right? That would be huge news to Woodrow Wilson and other 1910s and ’20s-era “Progressives:” CNN, Media Freak When GOP’s Rep. Scott Perry Accurately Ties KKK History To Democrats.

The Philadelphia Inquirer, the New Republic and The Daily Beast and others in the liberal media jumped on this as well. The New Republic termed Perry’s remarks “bizarro” while The Daily Beast settled for “bonkers.”

In the Inquirer story the reporter quoted “Matt Jordan, director of the Pennsylvania State University News Literacy” who said that after its founding in 1865 by Democrats “it became an extra-legal terror organization that was never the wing of any political party.”

Where to start with this wildly ignorant understanding of basic American history?

The hard historical fact, per, among many, Columbia University historian Eric Foner is that the KKK was in fact “a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.” University of North Carolina historian Allen Trelease’s description of the Klan was as the “terrorist arm of the Democratic Party.”

Indeed, the Klan was so tied to the Democrats that the party’s 1924 Convention in New York City has been dubbed the “Klanbake” because so many of the delegates were Klan members.

The Klan’s favorite for the presidential nomination that year was one William Gibbs McAdoo, who had served Democrat – and Klan supporter  – President Woodrow Wilson as Secretary of the Treasury. Wilson, recall, was such a staunch Klan supporter that he hosted a White House screening of the pro-Klan, decidedly racist Hollywood blockbuster Birth of a Nation.

FASTER, PLEASE: The Beginning of the End of New York’s Migrant Crisis.

On February 24, New York mayor Eric Adams announced that the Roosevelt Hotel will wind down its migrant operations, which will cease in June. Since May 2023, the once-glitzy Roosevelt has served as the city’s central processing facility for some 173,000 migrants that arrived in New York seeking shelter. Coming on the heels of announced closures for dozens of other migrant shelters, the news signals welcome relief for New Yorkers, a potential end to the migrant crisis. But it’s only the beginning of the end.

The Roosevelt Hotel, long known as Madison Avenue’s Grande Dame for the elegance of its neoclassical lobby, crystal chandeliers, and limestone-and-marble clad exterior, once attracted celebrities and hosted political campaigns. In 2000, the Pakistani government purchased the property, maintaining it as an asset of the publicly owned Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

In December 2020, heavy economic losses from the Covid-19 pandemic forced the hotel to shut its doors. As graffiti covered the building’s ground-level limestone and 450 union jobs hung in the balance, the city’s powerful hotel workers’ union urged the Pakistani government and elected officials to reopen the facility. Adams, who benefitted from the union’s early endorsement in 2021, vowed to repay the favor, saying on the campaign trail, “You have been my first major union endorsement, I never forget my first. You are my love.”

By May 2023, the persistent weekly arrival of thousands of migrants offered the mayor a chance to make good on his promise: a $220 million, three-year contract to convert all of the hotel’s 1,025 rooms for use as a migrant shelter, starting at a nightly rate of $202, with a minimum guaranteed income for PIA equivalent to 1.5 years of use as a migrant shelter. Dubbed the “new Ellis Island,” the Roosevelt became the venue where migrants applied for shelter placements, were screened for health hazards, located their relatives, and accessed legal aid for their asylum cases.

Now that the minimum-income period has passed, Adams has taken advantage of the contract’s early cancellation provision, which requires four months’ notice. In 2023, Pakistani reporting on the deal noted that the hotel would be returned to PIA in the same condition as before its use as a shelter. Ostensibly, the city will be on the hook for renovating the decrepit building in the months ahead. Early this year, the Pakistani government accelerated plans to sell or redevelop the hotel, perhaps knowing that the shelter contract would not last for the full three years.

ED MORRISSEY: MSNBC Panel: Democrats Really FUBAR’d the Moment, Huh?

Trump set a trap for Democrats who couldn’t have telegraphed their foolish strategy and tactics more loudly than if they’d exhumed Samuel Morse himself to do it. And Democrat leadership — not the Boeberts and the MTGs, but party leadership — led them on a Pickett’s Charge right into it, with crazy Al Green waving his walking stick to lead the charge.

Now Democrats look like a party that can’t even break free of their toxic Trump derangement long enough to stand for a child suffering from brain cancer, or a young man whose dream of serving his country through West Point has come true. Democrats are utterly lost because they stand for nothing except raw power to benefit themselves, and only themselves. And without any other real purpose, the only strategy that they can see is to stupidly charge at all times under the military doctrine of We’re right and they’re not.

Maybe they should learn from history rather than trying to edit it.

HOUSE OF STEPHANOPOULOS SUFFERS SHRINKAGE: ABC News to lay off dozens, merge ‘Good Morning America’ and ‘GMA3,’ ax ‘538’ data site.

ABC News staffers are bracing for imminent layoffs while the division will restructure its programming including the merging of its “20/20” and “Nightline” programs and the consolidation of its “Good Morning America” productions, according to reports.

The Walt Disney Co. is set to lay off around 200 people from its ABC News Group division as well as its Disney Entertainment Networks unit — a move that constitutes cutting some 6% of the combined staff of the two units, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Almin Karamehmedovic, president of ABC News, circulated a memo to employees on Wednesday morning confirming the changes.

“As we’ve often talked about, streamlining our operation to best serve our viewers and continue to position ourselves as a leading news organization has been a goal for some time,” the ABC News boss wrote in the email, a copy of which was obtained by The Post.

“Rethinking the way we work to future-proof our team regrettably includes reductions to our extraordinary staff,” Karamehmedovic wrote, adding: “These decisions are incredibly challenging and today will undoubtedly be difficult for our organization.”

UPDATE: Here’s 538’s final poll before the 2024 elections. It’s neck and neck!

ROGER KIMBALL: Trump bulldozes through joint address to Congress.

The president presented a bracing tour d’horizon in his opening sally. He ordered federal workers back to work: “They will either show up for work, in person, or be removed from their job.” As I write, the Trump administration is ending “weaponized government,” restoring free speech, underwriting English as the official language of the United States and pursuing a policy of “drill, baby, drill” to exploit America’s energy resources.

Trump also provided an inventory of some of the flagrant waste, fraud and abuse that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency has identified: $22 billion from HHS to provide free housing and cars for illegal aliens, $45 million for DEI scholarships in Burma, $40 million to improve the “social and economic inclusion of sedentary migrants,” $1.9 billion to a recently-created “decarbonization of homes” committee of Stacey Abrams — and on and on.

But beyond the manifold particular achievements was something Trump hinted at often: the change in tone, in energy, in outlook that has washed over the country since 12:01 on January 20. In many ways, that is the most amazing thing; what has been called the “vibe shift,” the new current of directness, the new, self-confident, unapologetic embrace of distinctively American possibility — the “Golden Age of America.”

One sign of this is the total disarray of the Democrats in attempting to respond to Trump. How else can you explain the fact that Chuck Schumer, Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker issued video clips with identical texts just hours before Trump’s speech? How do you spell “pathetic?”

Early in his speech Trump, predicted that Democrats in attendance would not stand, applaud or smile no matter what he said or did. “I could find a cure to the most devastating disease,” Trump said, “or announce the answers to the greatest economy in history, or the stoppage of crime to the lowest levels ever recorded, and these people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements… It’s very sad, and it just shouldn’t be this way. So Democrats sitting before me, for just this one night, why not join us in celebrating so many incredible wins for America?”

If not America, why not this? Democrats Can’t Applaud a Child Who Survived Brain Cancer.

And it wasn’t just Dems in the room there was also Nicole Wallace, who apparently accurately calls herself a “self-loathing former Republican:”
