CIVIL RIGHTS UPDATE: FPC Challenges Federal Ban on Interstate Gun Sales. “This is a federal ban that stands in the way of doing business directly with lawful individuals from other states who are legally able to purchase a firearm. . . . The DOJ, now under new management, can theoretically choose not to defend the law. It will be more than interesting to see what the feds do here.”

The filing is here.

INDEED:

The Left will come to regret the day they cheated Trump out of a second consecutive term that likely would have been less effective than the first. In fact, they probably already have.

“WE ARE THE MEDIA.”

The mainstream media is Gollum, deep inside Mount Doom and unwilling to let go of its precious narratives, even as the fiery pit they launched themselves into burns them alive.

WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY:

GREAT MOMENTS IN DISPASSIONATE, OBJECTIVE JOURNALISM: Press Outlets Accuse Pete Hegseth of Domestic Abuse, but His Ex-Wife Nukes Them.

On the surface, this seems serious. After all, there’s an on-record source making the claim, which is a step up from most press allegations these days. Surely, this is going to sink Hegseth’s nomination, right?

There’s just one problem: Hegseth’s second wife, the one supposedly abused, is unequivocally denying the allegations and threatening to get her lawyer involved.

And so, it’s come to this:

UPDATE: New: Hegseth Attorney Blasts Smear Attempt as Concocted by Dems.

YOU’RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BLOG: Correcting Progressive Errors About Why Trump Won.

Some Harris supporters, especially among the D.C. professional class, attribute Harris’ loss to Trump voters’ gullibility or malice. They say that America is thriving, crime is down, employment is low, and Biden passed major legislation to combat inflation and enhance America’s ability to compete with China. Therefore, only a public that fell for right-wing misinformation or backs Trump’s authoritarian dispositions could have elected him president. Among other things, this assessment overlooks that inflation, which surged during Biden’s presidency, battered working-class voters who form the core of Trump’s support, and that declining inflation does not mean that prices have returned to pre-inflation levels. It also underestimates the impact of lawless borders on middle-class and working-class voters. It avoids consideration of the consequences of mainstream-media gaslighting of Americans about Biden’s declining cognitive capabilities. And it ignores the electoral significance of Harris’ inability to distinguish herself from the Biden administration – known early on as the Biden-Harris administration – and to separate herself from the hard-left positions she took in 2019 in pursuit of her party’s presidential nomination and as a senator from, and attorney general of, California.

Other Harris supporters blame her loss on racism and sexism. They maintain that the American people’s bigotry foiled the election of an African-American woman to the highest office in the land. Well-known facts undercut this accusation. In 2008, then-Sen. Barack Obama defeated John McCain – a center-right, white war hero – to become the first black person elected president of the United States. Following his January 2009 inauguration, President Obama enjoyed sky-high approval ratings that cut across party lines. Obama coasted to reelection in 2012 against Mitt Romney – a center-right, white, former businessman and former Massachusetts governor. And former President Obama and his African-American wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, remain popular. Moreover, though losing to Trump in 2016 in the Electoral College, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, demonstrating that a majority of Americans can prefer a woman in the White House.

In early January in the New York Times, James Carville took a crack at explaining Harris’ loss. He, too, offered an implausible, one-dimensional account.

Let them keep their delusions for many more election cycles.

STEVE HAYWARD: In Re: Curtis Yarvin.

From here it is obvious that [Timesman David Marchese] is desperate to change the subject because he realizes that Yarvin, good-natured and patient throughout, will keep running circles around him. Marchese tries, on a couple of occasions, to suggest Yarvin is “cherry-picking” his historical illumination, but what is clear is that Marchese doesn’t even have a minimal background to contest Yarvin on either the facts or how they should be interpreted. Marchese is a museum-quality example of glib liberal ignorance.

There’s lots more, and I recommend watching the entire interview on YouTube below, even though it is nearly an hour long. Yarvin totally exposes the supercilious, presumptuous character of the New York Times “reporters” like Marchese. I’m pretty sure Marchese left this interview, reached in his pocket, and said, “Hey—where’s my lunch money??”

I’m not sure if I agree with with Yarvin’s take — I have no problem viewing the president as something akin to a CEO or (a term-limited) monarch — I just wished he had a much smaller business or fiefdom to run.

In any case, this quote from the Times’ profile is an unintentional riot:

Trump may be getting the memo from Yarvin, incidentally:

WHAT HAS GLENN BEEN SAYING LATELY ABOUT THE PREFERENCE CASCADE HAVING CASCADED?

Those aren’t quite Reagan’s youth numbers but, oddly enough, Trump is only getting started in his second term — when most presidents are fading.

TROUBLE IN PARADISE? Matt Margolis asks: Are the Obamas Headed for Divorce?

Whispers of marital discord began after Michelle Obama notably missed former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral. Her office offered no explanation for her absence, only that she had a “scheduling conflict,” but CNN reported that she was in Hawaii on “extended vacation.”

Something didn’t quite make sense there.

Then there was the decision to skip Trump’s inauguration. It was viewed by many as a political statement. Allies of Michelle said she wanted “nothing to do with a man undeserving of the presidency and is making no effort to hide her disdain for Trump.”

“She meant every word she said on the campaign trail with every fiber of her being,” one source told The Hill. “And she’s no hypocrite.”

It was a perfectly believable explanation, though considering she attended Trump’s first inauguration back in 2017. Had she attended Carter’s funeral, the explanation for her absence might be more believable, but missing both of those events raises major questions.

The Daily Mail notes that there have been rumors about Barack Obama and a Hollywood actress.

Meanwhile, there appears to be no strength through joy in camp Kamala these days: Inside former VP Kamala Harris marriage turmoil as Doug Emhoff’s scandals are blamed for losing presidency.

IT DOESN’T SOUND LIKE THIS GUY DID ANYTHING ACTUALLY WRONG: LSU Law Prof Removed From Classes Amid Investigation Into Political Comments.

I went through to the original article and it didn’t have any more detail on what exactly he’s supposed to have said, besides being critical of the governor.

I do like this:

“We cannot live and exist in a country where people are punished because of their opinions, their thoughts and their words,” Craft said. “This is particularly true in the area of academic freedom. If we take that away, it takes away the cornerstone of this democracy. And then we don’t have one anymore.”

Well, I mean, yeah, but tell it to Amy Wax and a host of other conservative professors.

SKYNET FROWNS: Altman Tells ChatGPT Fans To Stop The Hype On AGI & Superintelligence.

Achieving AGI (artificial general intelligence, another name for superintelligence) is the driving mission of ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. The accomplishment represents the holy grail in the world of machine learning, and it is a priority for tech giants like Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft. In a recent post on X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman tried to quell rumors and crush the hype surrounding superintelligence and AGI (artificial general intelligence), where fans and enthusiasts are saying it’s already here. The attempt to quiet the noise went viral, receiving 3.1 million views (as of this writing).

Fortune reports that rumors of AGI, which is a type of artificial intelligence that can understand, learn and perform intellectual tasks like a human, has been gaining publicity and posts. Is the hype warranted, or a wish, from ChatGPT enthusiasts? Altman said in a recent blog post that the company behind ChatGPT knows “how to build AGI as we have traditionally understood it”. He went on to say, “We are beginning to turn our aim beyond that, to superintelligence in the true sense of the word. We love our current products, but we are here for the glorious future. With superintelligence, we can do anything else.”

“We are not gonna [sic] deploy AGI next month, nor have we built it,” Altman declared.

Then do they really understand how to build it?

CHURCHILL BUST RETURNS TO OVAL OFFICE:

Flashbacks:  Nigel Farage: Why Does Barack Obama’s White House Hate The United Kingdom?

“Many observers seem puzzled.  I’m not and neither is the UK press.  It’s about Kenya,” the blogger Baldilocks noted in March of 2009 when the Churchill bust was drop-shipped to Downing Street and Obama stiffed then-PM Gordon Brown.

To ask why Team Biden removed the bust again in 2021 is to answer the question of who was really running the White House over the last four years.

CHANGE IS COMING:

Young men don’t like being ruled over by neurotic — and sometimes psychotic — women. Go figure.
