HOW IT STARTED: Next mayor wants NYC to be even more of a ‘sanctuary’ for illegal immigrants.

Every single one of the eight Democrats running for mayor vowed to protect illegal immigrants from deportation, solidifying the Big Apple’s often infamous status as a “sanctuary city.”

Entrepreneur Andrew Yang, the son of legal Taiwanese immigrants, said, “I appreciate anyone who comes to this country or New York City for a better life.”

And Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said migrants were his neighbors growing up in Queens.

“My mother worked two jobs to provide for the six of us and we had a group of undocumented residents that lived in our community,” Adams said.

The other candidates — city comptroller Scott Stringer, former Obama housing secretary Shaun Donovan and nonprofit leader Dianne Morales — also voiced their support for the Big Apple as a sanctuary city.

How it’s going:

WE CAN HOPE:

Meanwhile, now that Maduro has declared war on Elon, can Elon send troops?

Just kidding, he won’t be able to deliver troops by Starship for at least 5 years, and the powered armor won’t be done before then either.

PAST PERFORMANCE IS NO GUARANTEE OF FUTURE RESULTS:

AND, JUST LIKE THAT, IT WAS OKAY TO QUESTION ELECTION RESULTS AGAIN: US, allies demand Maduro show his election receipts in Venezuela.

The U.S. and other democracies in the hemisphere are facing a high-stakes test on how they’ll respond to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s claim of reelection victory amid widespread accusations of fraud. The Biden administration is so far keeping its powder dry but has expressed serious concerns that the published results do not accurately reflect the will of the Venezuelan people. . . .

Neither the CNE nor Maduro have produced the receipts, but opposition observers claim to have the records from at least 40 percent of stations.

Those records show opposition candidate Edmundo González with about a 70-30 lead over Maduro.

“It’s simply not mathematically possible that Maduro can prevail in an election with González having won 7 in 10 votes in the 40 percent of voting tabulations to which the opposition had access,” said Jason Marczak, vice president and senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center.

Well, whatcha gonna do about it?

SHOCKING: 2 Children Dead, 9 Injured in Mass Stabbing at UK Taylor Swift-Themed Event. “A 17-year-old male from Banks in Lancashire, who is originally from Cardiff, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and has been taken to a police station where he will be interviewed by detectives.”

Update: There seems to be some confusion about whether the suspect, Ali Al-Shakati, was an immigrant or not.

TRUNALIMUNUMAPRZURE! Biden says Speaker Johnson is ‘dead on arrival’ in confusing exchange with reporter.

President Biden on Monday declared House Speaker Mike Johnson “dead on arrival” when asked how he planned to get his new rules for the Supreme Court through a Republican-run Congress.

Shortly after arriving in Austin, Texas, where Mr. Biden is scheduled to speak about his plan to overhaul the court, he took a few questions when the odd exchange took place.

Mr. Johnson, Louisiana Republican, said on social media Mr. Biden’s proposed reforms would be “dead on arrival” in the House.

When asked about the speaker’s comments, Mr. Biden responded, “That’s what he is.”

The confused reporter, seeking clarification, said, “He is?”

“He is dead on arrival,” Mr. Biden responded.

Of course, the DNC-MSM would have be pulling all of the fire alarms if President Trump said that, but as usual with the (p)resident, what James Lileks once accurately dubbed “the soft bigotry of Joe expectations” strikes again.

THEY’RE BOTH HANDSOME, BUT THE MASERATI LOOKS MUCH BETTER IN MY OPINION: 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT63 vs. Maserati MC20 Cielo: Duel for Grand Tourer Supremacy!

But I don’t even have to be tempted, because the Insta-Wife doesn’t like riding in small cars, and there’s no point having a sports car if you’re not going to have a hot chick in the passenger seat. I do think it’s funny that the Maserati’s interior is much more low-key than the Mercedes.

CUE THE WORLD’S SMALLEST VIOLIN: Wagner Group Column Mangled In Mali. “Remember Africa’s League of Assholes, the three Sahel nations (Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso) run by military regimes backed by Moscow mentioned in a LinkSwarm a week back? Yeah, Wagner’s fighting for them. And in Mali, a column of them using the same naked convoy tactics that have gotten so many Russians killed in Ukraine just got a bunch of them killed in Mali.”

LAST WEEK’S NETANYAHU CAPITOL PROTESTS JUST A WARMUP? Former New Left mob tactics trainer Richard Pollock observes in his latest column that “the latest violence in Washington has been part of a slow, but escalating set of acts.  The Palestinian who wrote on D.C.’s Christopher Columbus monument that ‘Hamas is Coming’ wasn’t an idle threat.  Palestinians are seeking to up the ante.”

Pollock also talked Ryan Mauro of the Capital Research Center (CRC), another guy who is an expert on who is funding, organizing and strategizing for the pro-Hamas/pro-Palestinian mobs. Mauro sees a new and disturbing characteristic in the D.C. mob violence around the U.S. Capitol:

“These aren’t just critics of Israel They’re not Republicans or Democrats. They’re not liberals. We really have to think of these groups as a new paradigm because they’re communists, anarchists, radical Islamicists and anti-Americans. It really sets them apart from the categories of people that we’re used to dealing with people like liberals and those demonstrating for women’s rights. No, this is separate. This is an eco-system that is against both political parties, against liberals and conservatives.”

Liberals, are you listening?

GREAT MOMENTS IN FACT-CHECKING:

Update: “Meta has now removed the label and says it was a ‘false positive’ in their system.”

The false positives only seem to go in one direction and get corrected only after the damage is done.

More: “Unlike Community Notes on 𝕏, Meta’s ‘Fact Checkers’ are a small group of hand selected corporate media journalists, labels dramatically reduce the distribution of content and having them applied to your posts can destroy your entire page.”

THOUSANDS OF TAX CHEATS WORK FOR IRS: New report from the Treasury Department’s IRS watchdog says more than 5,800 agency employees and contractors have nearly $50 million in unpaid taxes.

BIDENOMICS IS WORKING: In more than 200 U.S. cities, $1 million only gets you a starter home.

A typical entry-level home in the U.S. costs roughly $200,000. But in a growing number of cities, that would only cover the down payment.

With housing in short supply around the country and the stiffest mortgage rates in years, you need at least $1 million to buy a starter home in 237 cities, according to a Zillow analysis. That’s a hefty sum for a place to live that’s defined in the report as being in the lowest third of home values in a given region. The new data marks a significant rise from five years ago, when only 84 U.S. cities had starter homes that cost seven figures.

How did we get here?

The pandemic exacerbated an existing housing shortage in cities across the U.S., which is most pronounced in Boston; Portland, Oregon, and Sacramento, California, according to Zillow. Despite robust residential home construction in 2023, the 1.4 million homes that were built do not sufficiently close the gap between available units and the number of home seekers in the U.S.

Normally, this kind of market distortion would work itself out as supply catches up to demand. But California in particular is hostile to new home construction.
