THE HIGH PRICE OF LAX FOREST MAINTENANCE: The ‘extraordinary’ growth of California’s largest fire raises alarms. It could burn for months. “Experts say the fire’s explosive growth is due to a perfect storm of hot, dry conditions, combustible vegetation and a landscape that hasn’t burned in decades. The remote terrain has made it challenging for crews to gain access to the blaze’s swelling perimeter, and the firefight could be long and arduous as they struggle to gain a foothold.”

JIM TREACHER: The Dems Claim the Other Guys Are Weird.

At least the Dems have calmed down a little bit. After months of trying to scare people into believing Trump is Hitler1, they’re making the much more plausible claim that he’s a weirdo.

Which even his biggest fans will admit is true. He’s a weird dude! But not only do they not care, to them it’s a positive.

I mean…

Yep, that’s weird alright. And they love it! They can’t get enough.

Other than the fact that everybody knows it already and his voters don’t care, there’s one other problem with attacking Trump for being weird:

It’s coming from the Democrats.

These Democrats:

VIDEO: Harris Unburdened by Knowledge, Facts in Latest Word Salad. “I never thought I’d feel pity for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who wouldn’t know what ‘security’ was if it snuck across the border and laced his Wheaties with a lethal dose of fentanyl. But watch him over Harris’s shoulder. He seems to be thinking, ‘And I thought my old boss was an idiot.'”

THIS IS EXACTLY RIGHT:

HOW IT STARTED: Military Investigating Possible White Power Hand Signal at Army-Navy Game.

Though it resembles an innocuous “okay” sign, the symbol has developed among far-right circles on the internet as a way to signal to others familiar with the imagery of white power, while obscuring the intent in layers of irony. Memes like this symbol “mean to provoke or offend, and the meaning can come later,” Dr. Cynthia Miller-Idriss, an American University professor specializing in far-right youth extremism, told the Times earlier this year, when the hand gesture was designated a hate symbol by the Anti-Defamation League.

Though the ADL warns that that “someone who uses the symbol cannot be assumed to be using the symbol in either a trolling or, especially, white supremacist context unless other contextual evidence exists to support the contention,” it has also been embraced by violent white nationalists, like the Christchurch shooter who threw the sign at his first court appearance after killing 50 people at two New Zealand mosques.

New York magazine, December 15th, 2019.

How It’s Going:

Did you catch what Photoshopped Beyoncé is flashing in the lower right-hand corner?

In September of 2019, the Daily Wire reported “Anti-Defamation League Cedes ‘OK’ Hand Gesture To White Supremacists.”

And now the calls for segregation are coming from inside the house! Kamala Harris campaign creating ‘space’ for ‘white dudes’ to ‘be honest’ about role in history.

As Glenn noted in December of 2019 when Rolling Stone got the vapors because someone at the Army-Navy game flashed the OK sign, “The 4Chan trollers have scored again. I remember when ’culture jamming’ was a lefty thing, but the lefty culture jammers never scored at this level.”

So is the left done with this ridiculous attack on the right, or will it magically reappear if Trump wins in November?

EVERGREEN HEADLINE UNDER BIDEN-HARRIS: More Terrorists Cross Border. “That tends to happen when the ruling class wants to preserve power by importing a new permanent voting bloc, and doesn’t give a damn who comes in so long as they vote for the right party.”

WHO IS RUNNING OUR COUNTRY? YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO ASK THAT, PEASANT!

UPDATE: Quasi-President Reverses: On Second Thought, Let’s Revamp SCOTUS. “Wait a minute — which Quasi-President? We have two now, you know. We have the one who disappeared for a week and who became the first major-party nominee to withdraw from a presidential race. And then we have the one who spent most of her time as VP hiding from the media and talking in circles while out in public. This proposal to revamp the Supreme Court comes from the Quasi-President who opposed this plan before dropping out of the election. Or, at least that’s what we’re being told.”

Plus:

First off, this is nothing more than demagoguery. The “reforms” in this proposal would require a constitutional amendment. Such amendments require either two-thirds majorities in both chambers of Congress or an Article V convention to send it to the states. Thirty-eight state legislatures would then have to ratify the amendment, but it wouldn’t get past the thresholds; such a proposal won’t get that kind of a consensus in either chamber of Congress, and the Left lives in (unjustified) fear of an Article V convention. It’s an absurd attempt to undermine the Supreme Court by the Left and find shortcuts to taking it back over again more quickly than current prospects allow.

So who does this demagoguery serve? It doesn’t serve Biden, who’s not running for president any longer. It does serve Kamala Harris, however, and appears to align much closer to the views of her progressive allies than it does Biden’s previous positions on such changes.

And it is miiiiiighty curious that this reversal comes after Biden went incognito for a week while withdrawing from the race by tweet, and then waiting three days to appear before a camera and offer no real explanation. The White House insists that Biden is fully capable of handling the duties of his office, but so far we have seen no evidence of that, and plenty of evidence to the contrary. Perhaps Biden himself has decided to fully throw in with the progressives — his legislative agenda during this one term certainly suggests that, and his appointments to the courts and executive branch do as well. Biden plans to deliver a speech in Austin, TX this week to argue for this new plan, which goes beyond the recommendations of his own study commission — whose findings Biden buried in the end anyway.

Fake read meat for the more ignorant portions of his base. Which to be fair, is a lot of his base.

THERE’S A REASON I CALL IT AL JAZEERA ON THE POTOMAC: You really can’t hate the Washington Post’s coverage of the Middle East enough. The Post did not have a headline yesterday about the murder of 12 kids on a soccer field by Hezbollah. Today it has this headline, focusing on Israel’s “response,” with a picture that implies if you don’t look carefully that Israel killed the kid in the photo. Meanwhile, even though every Western government acknowledges that Hezbollah was responsible for the rocket that killed the kids playing soccer, the Post caption suggests that we might want to believe the Iranian-backed terrorist group’s denial.

UNEXPECTEDLY: Venezuela’s Maduro Declares Victory and Third Six-Year Term After Disputed Election. “Exit polls show victory for opposition, but the president controls the elections board.”

More:

Almost immediately, residents around Caracas began banging on pots to protest the result, which was expected to be contested by the opposition with the help of its allies, including the U.S. At the same time, Maduro loyalists gathered outside the Miraflores presidential palace to celebrate the win with a concert.

“What a beautiful day we’ve lived,” Maduro told the crowd from a stage where he also danced to reggaeton music. “Thanks for giving me this victory that the people so deserve. This is the triumph of the ideals of equality.”

Maduro’s continued hold on power in oil-rich Venezuela is likely to make it harder for the U.S. and its allies to resume normal diplomatic relations and fully lift sanctions leveled against the regime for human-rights abuses and corruption. That could prolong an economic crisis that has led to the exodus of nearly eight million people during Maduro’s rule, with many settling in the U.S. and other Latin American countries.

The result is also a blow to the Biden administration, which had offered concessions in recent months in exchange for commitments to hold free elections, but instead saw Maduro tighten his grip.

Not everyone in the Biden-Harris administration felt the blow:

Yet another dreadful preview of what a Harris administration would be like.
