IT’S NOT JUST HUNTER’S LAPTOP AT ISSUE: Now that the New York Times got around to “verifying” it’s authenticity, according to Margot Cleveland in The Federalist, the controversy over the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop is mainly about the eight scandals indicated therein that directly involve the senior citizen occupying the Oval Office:

“Merely admitting the laptop is legitimate is not enough. Rather, by concurring in the authenticity of the laptop and the emails, the supposed standard-bearers of journalism have also implicitly acknowledged the validity of the scandals spawn by the porn-filled MacBook.

“And notwithstanding the salacious source of the documentary evidence of the scandals, the scandals are not about Hunter Biden: They are about now-President Biden,” Cleveland writes. Another Cleveland must-read.

LAWRENCE PERSON: Coming Food Shortages? Doubt It.

As long as the Biden Administration doesn’t do something criminally stupid (like imposing wage and price controls to fight inflation, or a mandate that 50% of truck drivers be women), the American economy should adapt to prevent any significant food shortages due to the Russo-Ukrainian War.

Of course, government has no shortage of other ways to wreck the economy and make food scarce, and hyperinflation is one of the best.

As I said in my New York Post column on the subject, we’re likely to see discomfort in the United States, but actual hunger and maybe even starvation in poorer countries. Also, when you have to hope that the Biden Administration won’t do something criminally stupid, well . . .

MAN, WHAT A PERFORMANCE: Lia Thomas Is Having It Both Ways on the All-Time Record Boards at Penn Too. “The Left tells us Lia was born in the wrong body and is now living as his authentic self, stealing easy wins in elite college swimming. It does not matter that the only typically female features he has are shoulder-length hair and a smattering of make-up. Every member of the ’80s band Poison had better hair and more makeup, but I digress.”

PJ MEDIA VIP ROUNDUP: Don’t forget that VODKAPUNDIT promo code if you’ve been thinking of joining us.

Kevin Downey Jr: The F*****g B***s of the Left Makes Me Mr. Crankypants. “A ‘professor of economics’ has graciously come up with ways for us vegetable-dodging hillbillies to survive. How cute.”

Victoria Taft: Imagine a World Without Media and Big Tech Lying About Hunter Biden’s Laptop. “Let’s go over a few items that would not have happened under Trump but did happen under the disastrous presidency of Joe Biden.”

Yours Truly: OUCH! ‘Hold It’ Says Dem Maura Healey to Girls Who Don’t Want to Share the Ladies Room with Men. “Just hold it until the nice young woman puts her girl-penis away, dear.”

Bonus: Florida Man Friday: You Won’t Believe What He Did at Starbucks (Or How Many Times He Got Tazed).

COVID IS OVER: Vulnerable Democrats eye GOP transit mask repeal. “The chair of the House Democrats’ campaign arm and some of the vulnerable members he’s charged with re-electing are voicing support for a Republican-led mask mandate repeal bill. Why it matters: This would set up a potential showdown with the White House, which recently issued a one-month extension on the federal mask mandate for public transit and airplanes.”

IS THERE ANYONE IN THIS ADMINISTRATION WHO CAN THINK STRAIGHT? In Rambling remarks, VP Harris talks about ‘The Passage of Time’. “Has there been a modern Vice President so unable to speak extemporaneously as Harris? When Dan Quayle served in this office for four years, he got subjected to far more public ridicule over his intellect for far less reason than Harris supplies every time she goes off script. She’s a political disaster, so much so that the White House has kept her public appearances at a minimum ever since her interviews with NBC’s Lester Holt and Univision’s Ilia Calderón in June of last year. They’ve inexplicably put her out front occasionally as of late in the Ukraine crisis, with embarrassing results, and now she can’t even get her way through a presser on broadband.”

Also: Kamala’s national security adviser calls it quits, cites ‘pressing personal matters.’

JIM GERAGHTY: That Much-Discussed Dog That Refuses to Bark. “If Ukraine secretly has chemical or biological weapons, as some unconvincing voices, including Russian government and Russian state media claim… why haven’t the Ukrainians used them? What, 150,000 Russian troops coming over the border just wasn’t a big enough threat to risk using them? The danger just isn’t severe enough yet to justify using them? They’re waiting for another city to get demolished before taking them off the shelf?”

WELL, YES: Most say it really is ‘Bidenflation.’

The White House has tried to blame everything and everyone but the occupant of the Oval Office for the inflation that is choking family budgets, but voters feel they know who to blame in the crisis: President Joe Biden.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, 64% of likely voters said that the president’s policies have caused the 40-year high rate of inflation. Just 8% said his actions have cut inflation, and 25% haven’t seen a difference.

I guess those people don’t own cars or eat food.

A GRIPPING CONVERSATION AT THE WELL: If you have not availed yourself of the opportunity to watch “The Chosen” — the most successful-ever crowd-funded entertainment series — check out this scene on HillFaith this morning of Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan Woman at Jacob’s Well.

Besides the superb acting — Olivia Lane’s gripping emotional projection is memorable — the dialogue between her and Jesus and the manner in which He directs it is well worth contemplation. And don’t miss Jonathan Roumie’s laconic humor at the end.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: SCOTUS Confirmation Circus Highlights Dems’ Short Memories. “The Dems are, of course, hoping for a big kumbaya moment despite their shameful behavior, especially during the last two confirmation hearings. Many on the right are clearly in the mood for some righteous anger and retaliation from the GOP.”

FROM DAVID LAT, AN OPEN LETTER TO YALE LAW DEAN HEATHER GERKEN: “There’s been a problem with the intellectual climate at Yale Law School for several years now. Some of it flows from the fact that progressive students (‘Progressives’) view those who disagree with them—definitely conservatives, and even some moderates—as bad people (‘Bad People’). Progressives are free to think that their opponents are Bad People. They can exclude them from social gatherings. They can make Bad People feel unwelcome in affinity groups (already happening at YLS, with members of certain affinity groups being forced to choose between affinity-group and FedSoc membership). They can make fun of Bad People with satirical fliers.3 But it’s your job, as the Dean of Yale Law School, to tell Progressives that in an academic community based on free expression, there are limits to how much they can act on the view that their opponents are Bad People.4 Progressives can’t shut down duly organized events because they disagree with the speakers. They can’t weaponize anti-discrimination policies to punish the protected speech of their opponents. They can’t make up and spread lies about professors with unpopular views (or the students who dare to associate with those professors). It’s your job, as the Dean of Yale Law School, to remind Progressives of all this—even if they complain, call you ‘complicit,’ or say you’re a Bad Person too.”

Send a copy to Georgetown’s Dean Bill Treanor. Meanwhile I remember when one of my Yale Law professors got a complaint from a student delegation and responded along the lines of “that might bother me, if I cared what students think.” Yale could use less caring about what students think.

And maybe a bit more caring about what federal judges think.
