WHY WASN’T THIS NEWS TWO YEARS AGO, CHUCK? NBC host Chuck Todd makes explosive claim Biden cabinet secretary told him TWO YEARS ago that Joe ‘can’t run again.’

Today’s journalists as a class are the worst they’ve been in our country’s history but watching four years of their coverups come back to bite them — and the party they serve — has been a real joy.

SCHLICHTER PULLS NO PUNCHES:

I’m not sure which would give me more joy — seeing Biden forced out in an even more humiliating way than LBJ’s comparatively graceful 1968 exit or humiliated at the polls by Donald Trump — for all the reasons Kurt just listed.

But Biden isn’t just the worst president since Carter or maybe Buchanan, he’s almost certainly the worst person to serve as president, period.

GO ON AND TAKE THE RED PILL ALREADY: ‘The Law Has Failed Me’: Union Anti-Semitism Causes New Wave Of Support For Right To Work Laws.

“I’ve tried to use the law as it exists and at every turn, the law has failed me,” MIT graduate student William Sussman said. The computer science doctoral candidate cited numerous examples of MIT Graduate Student Union (GSU) staffers occupying buildings, being arrested, and passing a “ceasefire resolution” that did not mention the words “hostages,” “Hamas,” or “peace.”

“The blood had not yet dried when my colleagues at MIT declared ‘Victory is Ours,’”’ Sussman said, referring to a student group sharing an advertisement of an anti-Israel rally one day after Hamas’s massacre of more than 1,000 Israelis on October 7.

The “Confronting Union Antisemitism: Protecting Workers from Big Labor Abuses,” hearing held by the House Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions comes amid unions across the country engaging in anti-Israel political activism including passing one-sided resolutions, organizing protests, and persecuting Zionist members.

According to Sussman, he was denied a request to have a religious accommodation that would use his compulsory union dues to fund a charity instead of the union’s political activity.

Previously: US universities including Cornell, Harvard and MIT raked in $13B in ‘undocumented contributions’ from foreign donors. “A sizable portion of the funds were said to be donated from authoritarian regimes around the globe including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, China and the UAE, the report from the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) claimed.”

LET’S: Biden Said to Judge His Performance at the NATO Summit. Let’s Do That. “Some might argue that Biden didn’t majorly flub his appearance at the NATO summit on Wednesday, but he didn’t help himself either. If you’re a Democrat who is concerned that Biden can’t handle the next few months of the campaign, his performance here doesn’t give you any reason to feel confident in him once again.”

NOT GOING DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT:

If Biden is going anywhere, it won’t be until after the NATO summit and his second attempt at redemption, his “big boy” press conference on Thursday.

BEEGE WELBORN: Go Woke, Go Broke? Just Do It! “I have a warm fuzzy about this one – a fuzzy that’s at least twice as big as multi-millionaire, failed quarterback, and professional race-grifter Colin Kaepernick’s fro when he’s feeling really oppressed and needs to victim signal.”

SO MUCH OF “SOCIAL” MEDIA IS JUST BOTS COPYING BOTS: How disinformation from a Russian AI spam farm ended up on top of Google search results. “Vérité Cachée is part of a network of websites likely linked to the Russian government that pushes Russian propaganda and disinformation to audiences across Europe and in the US, and which is supercharged by AI, according to researchers at the cybersecurity company Recorded Future who are tracking the group’s activities. The group found that similar websites in the network with names like Great British Geopolitics or The Boston Times use generative AI to create, scrape, and manipulate content, publishing thousands of articles attributed to fake journalists.”

On the other hand, are the fake journalists that much more dishonest than the real ones?

JOHN ONDRASIK: America’s Invisible Hostage Crisis in Gaza.

I’m old enough to remember the yellow ribbons. In 1979, Islamic radicals in Iran took 52 Americans hostage, holding them for 444 days. The hostages’ plight captured the nation’s attention. Some of them became household names. Across the country people prayed for their release.

The crisis was the lead story on the news every night. Tying a yellow ribbon on a tree or lamppost became a public expression of sorrow and concern. Even the White House Christmas tree had one.

What a contrast to our current hostage crisis. On Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas killed more than 30 American citizens and took as many as a dozen Americans hostage. Of those who were taken, at least two have been murdered. Five, we pray, are still alive. Do you know any of their names? Have you seen one yellow ribbon?

Say their names, Mr. President.

BIDEN CAMPAIGN COLLAPSE TRACKER (DAY SIX): When You’ve Lost Stephanopoulos… “What happens when some random New Yorker sees ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos and starts up the video camera on his phone before asking Stephanopoulos if he thinks Biden should step down?”

UPDATE (From Ed): “George Stephanopoulos Accidentally Tells the Truth — That’s a big no-no,” Jim Treacher writes: “It took TMZ to get the truth out of a lifelong liar like Stephanopoulos. Just like it took the National Enquirer to get to the truth about John Edwards and the secret daughter he had with his nutty campaign aide back in 2008. Sometimes you gotta dig around in the gutter to find a gem. Now the libs are furious at this tiny little man for expressing his genuine opinion. How can the Democrats stop the Big Orange Liar, if one of their soldiers can ruin the whole thing in a regrettable moment of unintentional honesty?”

YES: Why boys don’t read very much: They want manly courage — not teen angst.

Boys read a lot less than girls, because assigned reading is oriented toward girls’ tastes, writes Tom Sarrouf on the Institute for Family Studies. Boys are “more interested in war, comedy, sports, and science fiction, and more excited about informational texts,” while girls prefer narratives and romances. “Boys are also far less likely to read books by female authors or with female protagonist, but girls were willing to read books written by men and with male protagonists.”

Boys get enough exposure to nonfiction, writes Katya Sedgewick on American Mind. They need to read classic literature with male heroes. (According to the 2024 What Kids Are Reading report, Diary of a Wimpy Kid is on reading lists from elementary to high school, she writes. Not good enough.)

Sedgewick grew up in the Soviet Union reading Twain, Dumas and Tolstoy. She makes a case for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer as a “rebel child living by wits and daring.” (I loved Tom Sawyer as a kid.) “I find it strange that teachers don’t see it as their job to connect the next generation of Americans to their heritage, preferring to submerge students into the sea of forgettable contemporary titles rather than explaining complicated language and showing their students how to love historic writing.”

As a high school English teacher and father of young readers, Auguste Meyrat thinks boys need more books with “action, conflict and even violence” and fewer books focused on “feelings and relationships.”

Boys aren’t girls.

DON’T GET COCKY:

More: “President Biden was narrowly trailing Donald Trump ahead of the June 27 debate. That gap has grown slightly larger since then. Given our closely-divided electorate, even a seemingly small two-point shift is significant.”

SHOT: AI is effectively ‘useless’—and it’s created a ‘fake it till you make it’ bubble that could end in disaster, veteran market watcher warns.

Chaser: AI is quietly being used to pick your pocket.

Retailers like Amazon know so, so much about what you buy, both on its platform and off. And you have no way of knowing when your choices are changing what you pay. In 2018, it was headline news that Amazon adjusted prices 2.5 million times a day. Given Amazon’s growth and the growth of AI, the number is likely an order of magnitude higher today. For retailers like Walmart, it’s not enough to use our shopping history. In February, the retail behemoth agreed to buy the smart-TV maker Vizio for more than $2 billion, potentially giving Walmart a windfall of intimate consumer data. Smart TVs not only monitor what we watch with Orwellian precision but track other nearby devices with ultrasonic beacons, and can even listen in to what we say in the privacy of our own homes. Vizio specifically has been fined millions of dollars over allegations that it illegally spied on customers.

Not only do retailers know what you’ve bought and how much money you make, but often they know where you are, how your day is going, and what your mood is like, all of which can be neatly synthesized by AI neural networks to calculate how much you’d pay for a given item in a given moment.

I suspect there’s money to be made combating this in anonymized AI shopping front ends to sniff out the best deals.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: DOCTOR Jill Biden Has Always Been In Full Edith Wilson Mode. “If the power brokers in the Democratic National Committee really did think that Joe Biden would relinquish power and not run for a second term, they were obviously overlooking his wife. If she is feeling slighted, it’s only going to strengthen her resolve to keep her husband propped up in the Oval Office for as long as she can.”
