SEAHAWKS’ PETE CARROLL: I’ve Talked With Kaepernick, and He Deserves Another Chance to Be an NFL Slave.

The Seahawks are looking for a quarterback, and Carroll said Wednesday: “I thought about another guy,” Carroll said. “You can ask questions about Colin Kaepernick. I know. You’re going to ask me, so let me just put it out there. He contacted me the other day. Said, ‘Hey, I’d like to get a shot. I’m working out.’ He sent me some videos. Next thing I know, he’s working out with Tyler Lockett. I don’t know how that happened. Does that guy deserve a second shot? I think he does. Somewhere. I don’t know if it’s here. I don’t know where it is. I don’t know if it’s even in football. I don’t know.”

A tepid expression of interest at best, but if Carroll thinks Kaepernick deserves another shot, he may be the one to make it happen. Kaepernick is the best-known mediocre (at best) quarterback in the history of the NFL: the San Francisco 49ers won two and lost six with him at the helm in 2015, and in 2016, Kaepernick was even worse, leading the 49ers to only one win against ten losses. He is 34 years old. Ordinarily, a quarterback with that kind of record would be looking into sportscasting at this point, but Kaepernick has made a name for himself with his far-Left off-field activities, and it is because he is a notorious Leftist, not in spite of that fact, that he might get another shot now.

Ben Shapiro explained why on Twitter Tuesday before Carroll revealed that he was interested in Kaepernick: “Honestly, I would love to see someone sign him and start him. Do it. Seriously, if you’re the Lions, you sign him and start him, the entire media fetes you for your bravery, you earn the eyeballs of a nation that couldn’t care less about you, and you simultaneously get to tank for a first round pick. Or alternatively, he shocks everyone and is good, and it’s the most incredible story in sports. There is essentially no business downside to signing him.”

Just as long as you’re prepared to ride out the social media onslaught that team and its head coach will receive after Kaepernick is eventually benched or cut.

Say what you will about Stacey Abrams, it’s a real achievement to have built a cultural profile high enough for stuntcasting as the president of Earth in a “Star Trek” series without ever having held federal or statewide office. She’s one of the most famous politicians in America somehow despite never having won an election bigger than a Georgia state assembly seat. She hasn’t held any public office at all in nearly five years.

That could change in November, but Abrams will be swimming against a strong Republican national current. Her only hope is Donald J. Trump splitting the right in Georgia between Brian Kemp and David Perdue, embittering the loser of the primary and causing a meaningful chunk of butthurt Republican voters to stay home in the fall.

He’s helped Democrats to unlikely victories in Georgia before. With Trump working on her behalf, only a fool would count Abrams out.

Although if I were her, given how well Republicans are doing on the generic ballot, I’d be glad to have a fallback career in science fiction.

Yes, it’s stuntcasting, but it’s a smart move by the makers of Star Trek: Discovery. With new episodes of Picard current rolling out, and the upcoming Strange New Worlds series being pitched as a return to the episodic Trek of old, STD risks being lost in the shuffle. They’re counting on the right getting angry at Abrams’ cameo and getting lots of free PR via social media in the process.

It’s somewhat reminiscent of the makers of Brokeback Mountain anticipating plenty of word of mouth via the right’s anger at a pro-gay film. In 2006, when the film didn’t go over the magical 100 million mark in domestic grosses, before Twitter existed and Facebook was just getting started, Mark Steyn noted that “The more artful leftie websites have taken to complaining that the religious right deliberately killed [Brokeback] at the box-office by declining to get mad about it.”

If you are really industrious, you can dig 20 pages into the A section of today’s New York Times and find a 1,700-word news story by three of its top reporters, relating that the Justice Department’s investigation of President Biden’s son, Hunter, is not merely a tax-matter. Turns out that prosecutors are probing his penchant for cashing in on his father’s political influence, through payments by overseas entities for which he did not register as a foreign agent.

Well, I’ll be damned!

Even better, if you wade 23 paragraphs into the story, you will learn that prosecutors are examining emails between Biden and his business associates that come from “a cache of files that appears to have come from a laptop abandoned by Mr. [Hunter] Biden in a Delaware repair shop.”

You don’t say.

Funny how this keeps happening at the Times whenever there is bad news involving a prominent Democrat. As Byron York wrote on September 24^th, 2008:

Today is a red-letter day for the New York Times. For the first time, the paper has reported in its news section that the Rev. Jeremiah Wright once uttered the phrase “God damn America.” Wright’s comments were widely reported and widely discussed beginning with an ABC News report six months ago. Barack Obama even had to give a much-publicized speech because of those words, and others. But the newspaper of record has never seen fit to publish Wright’s quote in its news pages. Until today.

Similarly, it took the Gray Lady a whole year to discover the “Luv Guv’s” crimes and misdemeanors in 2020:

The Times’ article on Cuomo preceded his defenestration by New York’s attorney general. It will be curious to see what becomes of their reporting on Hunter.

Its admission that — surprise!! — the Hunter Biden laptop stories were all, of course, true is a signal to Dems that the Big Guy is now expendable.”

ANNALS OF LEFTIST AUTOPHAGY: Chris Cuomo’s $125M CNN Lawsuit Contains Stunning Corruption Allegations.

But then things get sexy and revealing… The way I’m reading it is that in order to prove he did not violate CNN’s standards and practices and was therefore unlawfully terminated, Cuomo pretty much comes out and says CNN has no professional ethics. To make this case, he basically says, Hey, everyone was doing it, including the people in charge!

CNN has a long-established pattern and practice of selectively enforcing its policies based on cynical calculations of public perception. Indeed, CNN fostered a culture in which “exceptions” to the network’s standards and practices were routinely sanctioned, and that culture began at the top with Zucker and Gollust. As long as CNN’s ratings would not be hurt, Zucker and Gollust were more than willing to overlook major transgressions by CNN personalities such as Don Lemon and Jake Tapper, or even to engage in blatant misconduct themselves.

Cuomo then — tee hee — names names…

Should Covid rear its head in the US again, the White House would do itself a favor by keeping Fauci sidelined. He hasn’t done much to help the country react rationally to the possibility of a rising case rate — and he has remained defensively stubborn on the possible origins concerning the virus in China (he still claims the likely origin is zoonotic, despite a lack of evidence to support that thesis).

Most likely, the next time we will hear from Fauci will be when Congress convenes a 9/11-style commission on the pandemic, which was suggested earlier this week. He will get his talking points in about speaking for “the Science,” combative senators like Rand Paul will get their soundbites, the media will have a field day with the food fight. None of it will get us any closer to answers about how the pandemic happened, or why the CDC and Fauci changed their message in the name of science, sometimes almost overnight.

Anthony Fauci has quietly returned to the shady world of gain-of-function and dual-use-of-concern viral research, at least until the next pandemic. Don’t complain about him being gone.

ROGER SIMON: William Barr and Trump’s 2024 Conundrum.

If, as predicted, the congressional elections in November are a disaster for Democrats, you can look for that party to start changing their tune, if disingenuously. They already have to some extent, Biden having sounded something like “Trump-lite” during his State of the Union address, though with none of Trump’s fire.

The challenge for Trump will be to show that he’s the true carrier of his own ideas, enough to convince at least some of the enmity crowd so deeply committed to despising his “character.”

It’s unlikely he will have any luck with William Barr, who long ago found Trump too “divisive.” But outside the Beltway, where The People live, he will have a much better chance.

I know “it’s a long way to Tipperary,” but I suspect Trump will succeed against any adversary—Biden, Newsom, or another.

Unfortunately, that’s assuming the greatest of all elephants in the room—or is it the continent: genuine electoral integrity in our country. Can we have it—or even something close— by 2024?

That one, more than anything, is up to We the People. It will be our toughest job.

“I bet everybody knows somebody…that in an intimate relationship, what happened was the guy takes a revealing picture of his naked friend, or whatever, in a compromising position and then…blackmails…,” Biden declared.

Oh, my, one of those things you never expected someone in the office to say.

Um, no, I don’t know about you, Joe, but I don’t know personally know anyone who this has happened to. So who is it that Joe Biden is speaking about here? What naked “friend” of Joe’s was caught in a compromising position and blackmailed? Or is he talking personally? Or about his son, Hunter, who seems to have been involved in all manner of sketchy activity that Joe could be blackmailed over?

What is he concentrating on, making naked cheaters a protected class now? What the heck is he talking about? Why would that be a “new civil rights cause of action”?

Maybe Biden is about to announce something that we don’t know about yet. Are we about to hear about even worse pictures on the laptop? The ones we already know about are bad enough. Blackmail material would be something else. And in case you think this is idle speculation, let’s flashback to a story I wrote last August about what Hunter Biden said on video, allegedly to a naked prostitute, about Russians having possible blackmail on him.
