BLUE STATE BLUES: Yamaha pulling out of California after nearly half a century: HQ headed to Georgia.

After nearly 50 years in Orange County, Yamaha Motor Corp. USA is packing up its headquarters — trading Cypress, California for Kennesaw, Georgia in a sweeping corporate shift that will impact about 250 workers.

The motorcycle and motorsports giant says the move is part of major “structural reforms” meant to boost profits as costs climb — including pressure from tariffs imposed during the administration of President Donald Trump and shifting market conditions.

The relocation won’t happen overnight. Yamaha plans to start the exit in late 2026, with the transition stretching into 2028.

Company spokesman Bob Starr said consolidating operations in Georgia simply makes business sense.

“In terms of efficiency, to have us all together in Georgia — all the functions of the business — it makes a lot of sense,” Starr said.

The departure marks another corporate blow for Cypress.

Back in 2019, Mitsubishi Motors North America ditched its longtime HQ in the city after 31 years, moving roughly 200 jobs to Franklin, Tennessee to cut costs.

California used to be a great place to do business, but then it became a deep blue state.

HEH:

GREAT MOMENTS IN ANTI-JOURNALISM: CNN Changing Name to PNN: Propaganda News Network.

Some things you cannot make up.

I mean, who would believe it if you told them that CNN would turn an Islamist terrorist attack on New York City into a tale of two brothers minding their own business until they were forced to protest the injustice of white supremacists who were committing an Islamophobic hate crime?

CNN may have invented a whole new genre of anti-journalism:

At PJ Media, Scott Pinsker writes, “New Yorkers Can’t Trust Their Mayor to Tell Them the Truth About Islamic Terror Attacks.”

The rest of us can’t trust CNN to report the story, either. Curiously, the author of the piece has pronouns, which may not be ISIS-approved:

Exit questions:

A VERY PUBLIC EDUCATION: Why can’t kids behave? Parents undermine discipline, say teachers.

Well, so do the schools:

While more parents may be indulging their children, schools have become much looser too.

Since the Obama administration’s 2014 “Dear Colleague” letter, which complained of higher punishment rates for black and Hispanic students, “schools have tried to follow a gentler, more ‘restorative’ approach to student discipline,” writes Banerji. Suspensions and expulsions are down. But the softer approach “has had limited success in curbing behavioral issues, and it has garnered criticism — largely from teachers — for letting students off the hook with few to no consequences.”

Sending a disruptive student to the principal’s office is useless, teachers on social media complain. The student will return to class in five or 10 minutes with a snack.

“NYC teachers call it the Jolly Rancher Discipline Code,” tweets @JimVolkland. “Even if a Principal wants to suspend a kid, their hands are tied by the District Office.”

Good lord.

BONCHIE BARELY SCRATCHED THE SURFACE:

Helluva thread, and here’s the exit quote: “He’s not just wrong. He’s a liar. A paid propagandist meant to demoralize Americans.”

Harsh but fair.

YOU DON’T SAY:

Decline is a choice and Europe chose it.

HEADLINES FROM 1979-2026, INCLUSIVE: IRGC commander issues ‘shoot-to-kill’ warning as anti-regime chants echo across Iran.“Meanwhile, a Tehran resident said that Basij and IRGC forces—fearing street demonstrations that could turn violent and ahead of Khamenei’s funeral—deployed heavy weapons and armored vehicles at key locations across Tehran. The resident said it appears a new directive may have been issued to crack down on protesters.”

They need guns.

YOU SURE GET THE FEELING BRUSSELS WILL TRY:

#JOURNALISM:

FORGET “DEMOCRAT OPERATIVES WITH BYLINES,” TODAY’S “JOURNALISTS” ARE BASICALLY ENEMIES OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION… OR IS THAT A DIFFERENCE WITHOUT DISTINCTION?

HMM: OpenAI’s robotics hardware lead resigns following deal with the Department of Defense.

Kalinowski, who previously worked at Meta before leaving to join OpenAI in late 2024, wrote on X that “surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got.” Responding to another post, the former OpenAI exec explained that “the announcement was rushed without the guardrails defined,” adding that it was a “governance concern first and foremost.”

OpenAI confirmed Kalinowski’s resignation and said in a statement to Engadget that the company understands people have “strong views” about these issues and will continue to engage in discussions with relevant parties. The company also explained in the statement that it doesn’t support the issues that Kalinowski brought up.

“We believe our agreement with the Pentagon creates a workable path for responsible national security uses of AI while making clear our red lines: no domestic surveillance and no autonomous weapons,” the OpenAI statement read.

Always, always, always have a human in the loop.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: The GOP Has an Embarrassment of Riches for 2028. “Unlike their Democratic counterparts, the Republicans have a deep bench that features some serious grown-ups. There are potential candidates who do more than while away the hours basking in the glow of sycophantic social media approval.”

CDR SALAMANDER ON THE DRAGON’S DECLINE: “For over a century, there was one jewel in the special relationship between the United States of America and her mother country, Great Britain. That jewel was the Royal Navy.” “We need to stop pretending we have a Royal Navy we knew in our youth or even that of two decades ago. No, we have something altogether different. Something shrunken. Something weaker. Something that is, in the end, really sad. A symptom of a nation who has lost an enthusiasm for herself or even an understanding of her national interest and led by a ruling class that seems uninterested in stewardship.”

It’s bad for nations to be ruled by a ruling class that fundamentally hates them.

Perhaps the French have been bringing the troops home to defend France from its internal African population.

IT’S LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DESPISE THE MEDIA ENOUGH:

CUBA LIBRE? US Close to Surprise Cuba Economic Deal.

Two sources familiar with the administration’s plans told the newspaper that officials are close to announcing a deal with Havana, though the exact timing and details remain unclear.

The agreement could include easing restrictions on Americans traveling to the Cuban capital and expanding economic cooperation between the two nations.

The proposed arrangement represents an unexpected turn in U.S. strategy toward the communist island.

After the U.S. captured Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and cut off oil shipments from Venezuela to Cuba, many analysts believed Washington might escalate pressure on Havana in pursuit of regime change.

Instead, officials appear to be exploring a strategy centered on economic leverage and negotiated concessions.
