PAST PERFORMANCE IS NO GUARANTEE OF FUTURE RESULTS: San Francisco politician Hillary Ronen forced to apologize to 15-year-old gun victim’s mother after she helped his killer by ‘writing a letter for him’ in the days after the murder.

A San Francisco politician has apologized to a 15-year-old gun victim’s mother after she helped his killer by writing a letter to a judge after the brutal murder.

Hillary Ronen, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, helped the killer Fernando Madrigal weeks after he shot and killed high school freshmen Day’von Hann from a car while prowling for rivalling gang members in July 2019.

The politician and attorney admitted she ‘wrote a letter without doing her due diligence’ before Madrigal was indicted by the US Attorney’s Office in December 2020. He pleaded guilty to the murder – and is awaiting sentencing.

I’m shocked, shocked! Rosen has never exhibited behavior like this before, except when she has:  Shot: defund the police; Chaser: I am begging for more police.

Liberals are never, ever held to account.

It depends upon what day of the week it is. On some, Rosen wants to defund the police. On others, she’d like many more officers, please:

Riots for thee, but not for me, in other words.

XI’S GOTTA HAVE IT: Xi Stresses Military Unity After Purging Rocket Force Chiefs.

While the Chinese leader has regularly stated the need for stability within the nation’s military, including during a trip to Inner Mongolia in June, his comments come after a series of abrupt personnel moves in the PLA.

Earlier this year, Xi abruptly purged two generals leading China’s secretive rocket force, which manages the country’s nuclear arsenal, without explanation. That came shortly after the Chinese leader ousted Qin Gang from the role of foreign minister, after the latter disappeared from public view for a month.

On Friday, Rahm Emanuel, the US Ambassador to Japan, linked Defense Minister Li Shangfu to those unexplained personnel moves, saying in a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that the Communist Party official hadn’t been seen in public for two weeks.

He still hasn’t been seen.

UPDATE (FROM GLENN): I find this worrisomely like the way Japanese officials opposed to war with the US were assassinated in the runup to Pearl Harbor. I don’t know that Xi is clearing the decks of people who think starting a World War is a terrible idea, but if he were it would look a lot like this.

DEMOCRATIC PARTY OPERATIVES WITH BYLINES RECEIVE THEIR MARCHING ORDERS: White House Sends Letter To Media Allies Directing Them to Intensify ‘Scrutiny’ of House Republicans Investigating Biden Corruption.

The Biden White House sent a letter to its media allies Wednesday, directing them to intensify their “scrutiny” of House Republicans after Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced an impeachment inquiry into the Biden family’s influence-peddling operation.

“It’s time for the media to ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies. Impeachment is grave, rare, and historic. The Constitution requires ‘treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors,” Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the White House Counsel’s Office, wrote in the letter to top U.S. news executives, according to CNN. “After nearly 9 months of investigating, House Republicans haven’t been able to turn up any evidence of the President doing anything wrong,” Sams added inaccurately.

In reality, Republican investigators have produced a mountain of evidence in the form of bank records, suspicious activity reports, wire transfers, text messages, whatsApp messages, emails, voicemails, photos, along with the testimonies of whistleblowers, and Hunter Biden’s former business partners, not to mention Joe Biden’s admission on tape that he got the Ukrainian prosecutor general fired by withholding $1 billion in US loan guarantees in exchange for his ouster.

Democrats, on the other hand, launched an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump in 2019 based on the complaint of one then-anonymous Democrat operative (who was aware of Biden’s corruption) who blew the whistle after Trump asked Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to look into the Biden family’s shady business dealings in a phone call.

The White House memo reportedly includes a 14-page appendix that “comprehensively addresses the 7 key lies House Republicans are suggesting they are basing an impeachment on.”

Sams alleged that an impeachment inquiry with no supporting evidence should “set off alarm bells for news organizations.”

David Frum swings into action!

OLD AND BUSTED: “‘This is a pretty damning report,’ says Sen. Chuck Schumer about the GAO report that the Trump administration broke the law when it withheld US security aid to Ukraine last year that had been appropriated by Congress — an issue at the center of the impeachment of Pres. Trump.”

The new hotness? Chuck Schumer Calls Impeachment Inquiry of Biden a Time and Money Wasting ‘Witch Hunt.’

JIM GERAGHTY: Gun Order and New Mexico: Michelle Lujan Grisham Breaks Badly.

If you want people to believe that the government is going to attempt to ignore the Constitution, seize their weapons, and forcibly subjugate them, you do exactly what Michelle Lujan Grisham chose to do here. You ignore the U.S. and state constitutions, you ignore your state legislature, you ignore the need to build consensus before you make a dramatic change in the law, and you accuse law-enforcement officials who object to the change, citing the Constitution, of being “squeamish.”

“I don’t need a lecture on constitutionality from Sheriff Allen: What I need is action,” the governor said Monday.

As Geraghty writes, “Actually, governor, you really do need to listen to that lecture on constitutionality.”

THIS IS CHILD ABUSE, AND WHY WE NEED TO BRING BACK THE CUSTOM OF TARRING AND FEATHERING: Alabama school suspends 1st-grader for making finger gun while playing cops and robbers, says outraged parent.

According to the attorney and school staff, on September 1, J.B. and another student were playing “cops and robbers” during recess. During the game, the children made pretend guns with their fingers and said “Bang, bang” at each other.

“As reported by shool staff, their play did not threaten any other students, did not disrupt any class activities, and did not interfere with school functions in any way,” the letter stated.

“Nevertheless, J.B.’s ‘gun fingers’ were reported to the school administration, whereupon Donna Page, Assistant Principal at Bagley Elementary School, who apparently lacked the insight and judgment to see the ordinary children’s play for what it was, immediately began a disciplinary process against J.B.,” Martz wrote.

“Candidly, I thought the story may be a hoax until I reviewed the paperwork generated by the school,” the attorney continued.

The suspension notice states that J.B. committed a “3.22 Threat” infraction. According to the Student and Parent Handbook for Bagley Elementary, Article 3.22 is “THREAT / INTIMIDATION (OF STUDENT).” Potential violations include “A threat to do serious bodily harm or violence to another student by word or act, cyber bullying, or intimidation that may induce fear into another.” Examples given are “a threat to kill, maim, or inflict serious harm; a threat to inflict harm involving the use of any weapon, explosive, firearm, knife, prohibited object, or other object which may be perceived by the individual being threatened as capable of inflicting bodily harm.”

Belcher’s attorney said, “No reasonable argument can be made that J.B.’s conduct fits with this prohibition,” noting that J.B. had been playing a make-believe game. . . .

“In other words, the school charged a six year old boy with an infraction equivalent to a felony crime,” Martz wrote. “The irony is not lost on J.B.’s parents that ‘[i]ntentionally hitting, pushing, kicking, or otherwise being physically aggressive with another student’ is only a Class II Infraction. In other words, J.B. would be subject to a lesser maximum penalty had he punched the other student in the face!”

Why is Donna Page allowed around children?

Related: Finger Gun Felons and Zero Tolerance Absurdity. “What is striking about that rule is that it clearly does not fit a finger gun used in a game of cops and robbers. Yet, the school hammered this six-year-old because administrators prefer to suspend a child than exercise logical judgment.”

They should be afraid to show their faces in that town.

NEW MEXICO’S GUN BAN FIASCO: Emperor Michelle I: A lawyer, a lawyer, my kingdom for a lawyer!

Suspending the Constitution is all fun and games until you look around and even your allies won’t return your calls. Such is life at the moment for Emperor Michelle I of New Mexico, formerly known as Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, who thought she could score some virtue-signaling points on the cheap at the expense of law-abiding gun owners. The Emperor and the state now face a slew of lawsuits seeking federal intervention to enforce the US Constitution and punitive measures against a tinpot dictator who claims her oath to the Constitution is “not absolute.”

Late yesterday, the emperor discovered that she had no legal clothes — or at least no legal cover. Attorney General and fellow Democrat Raúl Torrez informed Lujan Grisham that he will refuse to represent her office and the state in these lawsuits, proclaiming that he takes his oath to the Constitution more seriously. . . .

Cam Edwards reports this morning that Lujan Grisham had better find someone fast. All parties in the lawsuit are due in court today at 1 pm MT, which suggests that US District Judge David Urias isn’t waiting around for New Mexico to argue mootness.

I like that even the state police are saying they won’t enforce this.

MARK JUDGE: Journalistic malpractice can happen on the Right, too.

A good example of this is Ben Shapiro, a popular conservative voice. The Daily Wire founder recently speculated about a sensationalistic story involving former President Barack Obama and a man who alleges that in the 1980s, he did drugs and had sex with the future president.

Shapiro responded to this allegation, writing: “Serious question after watching Tucker Carlson ’s interview with Larry Sinclair: why are his allegations significantly less credible than those of, say, E. Jean Carroll or Christine Blasey Ford?” Shapiro then added: “I’m just wondering why it would be so shocking for a young Barack Obama to have engaged in cocaine use and homosexual behavior when he admits in his memoir that he ‘used a little blow’ and wrote to his girlfriend, ‘I make love to men daily, but in the imagination.’”

Shapiro is damaging the ability of conservatives to be taken seriously as journalists.

STOP BEING POOR SICK: ObamaCare Turns Out to Be Affordable Only for the Healthy.

According to President Biden, health insurance in America is free or almost free (“as little as $10 a month or less” after subsidies) for about 80% of people who acquire it in an ObamaCare exchange. Most preventive care—the only kind of care healthy people require—is also free.

If you are sick, things are different. Consider a hypothetical middle-aged couple in Dallas earning $70,000 a year. Suppose they have two children, both of whom have serious birth defects. Although this family will pay no premium for a Blue Cross bronze plan in the ObamaCare exchange, they will face a $9,100 deductible for each child. Their total out-of-pocket exposure is $18,200 a year.

It gets worse. Patients with serious diseases often require the care of highly trained specialists who usually work at centers of excellence. But that family in Dallas will discover that their Blue Cross plan isn’t accepted at leading cancer providers nearby, including Baylor University Medical Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center, or MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

The problem isn’t unique to Texas. ObamaCare plans have very skinny networks in every state. They tend to pay providers Medicaid rates or close to them. As a result, ObamaCare looks like Medicaid with a high deductible. A great many providers, including prestigious medical institutions, won’t accept Medicaid managed care—the version of Medicaid most recipients receive—or ObamaCare.

When a patient with ObamaCare coverage goes out of network, the plan usually pays nothing and the patient’s payment doesn’t apply to his deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.

High prices for restricted service… yep, that’s a government program.

Plus: “If you wonder why ObamaCare was designed this way, consider that it wasn’t designed by Mr. Obama or by Democratic lawmakers. It was designed by special interests. ObamaCare has been pouring about $60 billion a year in new money into the healthcare system. All that spending is lining the pockets of insurance companies, hospitals and some doctors—although it doesn’t appear that there has been any overall increase in the amount of healthcare being delivered.”

FIRST, THEY MADE IT DIFFICULT TO BUY THE GOOD STUFF WITH PSEUDOEPHEDRINE THAT ACTUALLY DOES WORK…: A Popular OTC Decongestant Might Soon Be Pulled From Shelves for Being Useless. “Food and Drug Administration scientists say that oral phenylephrine doesn’t work for nasal decongestion, though the agency’s final decision has yet to be made.”
