DISPATCHES FROM THE BLUE ZONES: California to punish doctors who spread Covid ‘misinformation.’

AB 2098, if signed by Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, would designate spreading false or misleading medical information to patients as “unprofessional conduct,” subject to punishment by the Medical Board of California which licenses doctors. Punishments could include suspending or revoking a doctor’s license to practice medicine in the state.

The legislation defines disinformation as falsehoods “deliberately disseminated with malicious intent or an intent to mislead,” and misinformation as spreading information “that is contradicted by contemporary scientific consensus contrary to the standard of care.”

A group called the Physicians for Informed Consent opposed the legislation, saying it would silence doctors, and filed a lawsuit this month to seek an injunction preventing the Medical Board of California from disciplining doctors based on accusations of disinformation. In the suit, the group called the legislation’s definition of misinformation “hopelessly vague.”

Misinformation is what the State says it is, comrade.

MAKE THEM PAY: Defamed bakery finally seals $36M victory over Oberlin after court rejects college’s appeal. “The Ohio Supreme Court had rejected a request to hear Oberlin College’s appeal of a verdict against the private, Ohio school — meaning the family-owned bakery that won a defamation lawsuit against the institution can finally collect on the multi-million judgment it was awarded by a jury in 2019. Originally, the judgment against Oberlin was $44 million, but a state law limited the final amount to $25 million, plus $6 million in attorney’s fees. Interest on the judgment has raised the total to about $36 million.”

MOST COLLEGE STUDENTS SELF-CENSOR: Fifty-nine percent of the respondents to a recent poll of college students report they self-censor their political views in class, even though their professors often talk about political issues, according to the Washington Free Beacon’s Karl Salzmann.

And can you guess what sort of political opinions those professors are discussing? Seventy-seven percent of the respondents described their professors’ views as being of the Left-wing variety.

Wasn’t there a time in America when college was the place where you could speak your mind, regardless of where you are on the ideological spectrum, without having to fear that doing so would result in some sort of penalty?

SO WHO CREATED GOD? AND A FREE BOOK! That “who created God” query is one I hear a good bit, including on occasion here in the comments. It’s actually quite an interesting question, in my view, and I respond to it today on HillFaith.

But wait, there’s more!

For those who are interested in such questions, email your snail mail address to me at: , and I’ll promptly dispatch to you a free copy of Tom Hammond’s concise, 46 pager entitled “What Time Is Purple?” It’s a delightful, quick read in answer to the title query “and other intriguing questions on the road trip to Truth.”

DAVID BARON, CALL YOUR OFFICE: Bears, moose, deer in Massachusetts exploring more backyards looking for water amid severe drought: ‘We’ve received quite a few calls about moose coming up to peoples’ pools.’ “Wild animals are also being drawn to residential areas to search for food. The drought has impacted the supply of wild vegetation, so both moose and deer are chomping on peoples’ plantings more than usual. Bears rely on summer berries, which have been affected by the significant drought. As a result, bears are searching for food in residential areas more often than during a normal year, eating from bird feeders and chicken coops.”

I GUESS BETWEEN NOW AND THE MIDTERMS THEY HAVE TO PRETEND LIKE THEY CARE ABOUT PARTISANSHIP: Rachael Rollins is being investigated for potential Hatch Act violation, as DOJ restricts political activities: Report; Rollins attended a DNC fundraiser with First Lady Jill Biden in Massachusetts.

U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins is the target of an investigation about whether she violated the Hatch Act after attending a DNC fundraiser with First Lady Jill Biden in Andover, while the DOJ on Tuesday announced new restrictions on political activities.

The U.S. Office of Special Counsel has launched the investigation into Rollins, according to a report from Reuters.

Rollins’ attendance at that Democratic fundraiser in July — first reported by the Herald — apparently sparked the new Department of Justice political restrictions.

Attorney General Merrick Garland on Tuesday wrote a memo to all DOJ non-career employees about the new rules.

Targeting political enemies is still fine, though.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Lefties Use Gorbachev’s Death to Remind Us That They LOVE Commies. “Sure, Gorbachev may have been a softie compared to most of his predecessors, but he was still mostly just the unfortunate shmuck who happened to be in power when the United States was blessed with a real president who had no patience for the commie nonsense.”

Reminder:

LEARN A TRADE: Students go farther when they have a plan.

While he graduated with a 4.12 GPA, he balks at the cost of a four-year college he views as unnecessary to his career objectives and a likely source of massive debt.

He’s also a highly athletic, outdoors kind of guy who does not fancy being chained to a desk.

So this month he starts a nine month technical training program at Blackhawk Technical College to become a utility power lineworker.
The cost: a mere $7,000.

But more importantly, he’ll join a stable profession that pays more than $50,000 per year for new entrants and $78,000 for seasoned professionals with five-years experience.

NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT ON THIS, RIGHT? The Washington Free Beacon’s Joseph Simonson obtained an internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo that describes officials finding nearly 30,000 individuals coming into the U.S. using Mexican passports and with Middle Eastern names.

Probably just means tourism to this country is becoming more popular in places like Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc. etc, because folks there want to see the Statue of Liberty, so no worries!
