EVERYTHING IS GOING SWIMMINGLY (MOSCOW EDITION): Russians Baffled After Putin’s ‘Space Troops’ Deployed as Infantry in Kursk.
The deployment of temporary motorized rifle of Russia’s Aerospace Forces to the Kursk region was first reported by independent investigative Russian outlet Important Stories.
The unit, created between May and June, consists of personnel from security and logistics companies, engineers, mechanics, some officers, and servicemen from a Russian spaceport. There are also personnel from special warehouses of the Aerospace Forces and radar stations in Russia’s Voronezh region, who were previously in charge of manning Russia’s nuclear deterrent, the publication reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.
The Fighterbomber Telegram channel, which has links to the Russian Aerospace Forces, appeared confused by the decision to deploy the unit to Kursk.
Possibly not the ideal use of warehouse specialists, engineers, mechanics, etc.

A week after Home Depot described American consumers as having a “deferral mindset” about spending, Lowe’s is humming the same tune, saying American homeowners — and by extension the economy — are in a strange spot this summer.
Lowe’s CEO Marvin Ellison said on Tuesday that the home-improvement retailer’s DIY customers were “on the sidelines waiting for some form of an inflection to take place.”
Ellison was speaking on the company’s quarterly earnings call, during which Lowe’s lowered its earnings expectations for the rest of the year because of a slowdown in sales for big-ticket discretionary projects.
Large projects represent about three-quarters of DIY sales for Lowe’s, Ellison said, “so any pullback in these big-ticket discretionary categories is really more of a disproportionate impact to us.”
Americans are tapped out and interest rates are high. The only surprise is that the pullback took so long.

WOEING: Boeing grounds entire 777X test fleet after discovering engine defect.
The 777X, Boeing’s latest and most state-of-the-art aircraft, first took to the sky in 2020 but faced delays in certification by the Federal Aviation Administration, the Seattle Times reported.
The FAA this summer gave the plane the go-ahead for test flights needed before launching passenger service.
Boeing had planned to deliver the fleet in 2025, but the discovery of a failed component connected to the jet’s engine has some buyers not expecting the jet until mid-2026.
The new GE9X engines are made by GE, not Boeing, but Boeing just can’t seem to catch a break.

THE NEW SPACE RACE: SpaceX’s Polaris crew set for first private spacewalking mission next week.
A four-person crew for SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn mission arrived in Florida on Monday ahead of their Aug. 26 launch to space for a mission that includes the first privately managed spacewalk, a risky endeavor only government astronauts have done in the past.
The crew – a billionaire entrepreneur, a retired military fighter pilot and two SpaceX employees – neared the end of more than two years of training for the mission, in which they will venture out of their Crew Dragon capsule in Earth’s orbit for a tethered spacewalk.
The mission will be a major first test of SpaceX’s new astronaut spacesuits and marks the latest risky, high-stakes commercial milestone that Elon Musk’s space company is looking to clinch on the billionaire’s path to eventually building colonies on Mars.
“Whatever risk associated with it, it is worth it,” said mission commander Jared Isaacman, the CEO of electronic payment company Shift4 who is also the head of the SpaceX-affiliated Polaris program.
