OUT ON A LIMB: Don’t Believe the Headlines: This Court is Very ‘Normal.’
This just-completed term, overall, had far fewer 6-3 “ideological” splits than last year’s term—it just so happened that three big ones came in the term’s final two days. As the Times noted over the weekend, “This term, the court’s liberal justices were significantly more likely than last term to be in the majority in nonunanimous decisions.” Also, the two justices who were in the majority least often? That would be the Court’s two most reliable conservatives, Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
In reality, the U.S. Supreme Court as presently comprised is a slightly right-of-center institution. What makes it different from virtually any other leading national political or cultural institution is simple: It is not entirely dominated by Leftists.
Hence, the hysteria.

“[The assenting judges] went so far as to say that the race-based admission system uses race as a negative and operates it as a stereotype,” the letter stated. “They may couch their opinion in legal jargon, but we all know what this opinion aims to do: advocate for a ‘colorblind’ admission process.”
“However, as many of our students know and Justice Sotomayor says in her dissent, ‘ignoring race will not equalize a society that is racially unequal,’” the letter proclaimed.
“As a reminder, BU also offers a number of wellness resources that are willing and able to help students navigate these times.”
The university’s law school is not offering specialized counseling for its students, but the SGA recommended resources that are already available.
Two of the resources were BU Behavioral Medicine and BU Student Wellbeing. According to its website, BU Behavioral Medicine offers therapy, on-call service for mental health emergencies and mental health diagnoses, among other services.

JOE BIDEN, “NOT PRESIDENT”- SARAH A. HOYT: Supreme Court “Not Normal” – Joe Biden.
July 3, 2023
OPEN THREAD: Happy almost Independence Day.
TRUNALIMUNUMAPRZURE! We need a serious conversation about Joe Biden’s brain.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday, President Biden falsely claimed that Russia is at war with Iraq. Russia is at war with Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is “clearly losing the war in Iraq,” Biden told the press pool, “losing the war at home. And he has become a bit of a pariah around the world.”
On Tuesday, during an unrelated fundraising event in Chevy Chase, Md., Biden made the exact same slip-up, mistaking Ukraine for Iraq.
“If anybody told you … that we’d be able to bring all of Europe together in the onslaught on Iraq and get NATO to be completely united,” the president said, “I think they would have told you it’s not likely.”
Although many journalists did a fine job this week highlighting the president’s apparent confusion regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, one can’t help but feel as if the news industry as a whole is avoiding the obvious follow-up question. Namely, “Is Biden OK?”
Just think of the media as Democratic Party operatives with bylines, and their silence makes perfect sense.

JOE ROGAN SLAMS ‘MENTALLY ILL’ DYLAN MULVANEY AFTER TRANS INFLUENCER SPOKE OUT ON BUD LIGHT FIASCO:
Rogan blamed pressure on corporations to adopt so-called “ESG” — environmental, social and governance standards — adding that Bud Light’s actions proved it was out of touch with “regular people.”
“Take a brand like Bud Light,” Rogan said.
“It’s for blue-collar drinking people and they like to watch football and drink Bud Light and then all of a sudden you have this mentally ill person who’s just an attention whore.”
Rogan then referred to the viral video of Kid Rock using an assault rifle to shoot cases of Bud Light.
“Once Kid Rock shoots your cans, you’ve got real problems,” Rogan said.
The Post has sought comment from Mulvaney and Anheuser-Busch.
Rogan’s latest salvo came after Mulvaney posted a video to her 1.8 million Instagram followers, saying she [sic] felt “a loneliness that I wouldn’t wish on anyone” and that Anheuser-Busch has done nothing to support her as she’s been ruthlessly dragged through the mud in the months following the failed campaign.
The next day, Anheuser-Busch pushed back against Mulvaney’s assertions.
The company said it is “committed to the programs and partnerships we have forged over decades with organizations across a number of communities, including those in the LGBTQ+ community.”
Rogan also slammed Bud Light’s decision to sponsor the Toronto Pride event, calling it “silly.”
And the hits just keep on coming for Anheuser-Busch: Bud Light hit over ‘desperate’ ad with NFL star Travis Kelce: ‘Going for the death blow.’
The ad titled, “Backyard Grunts with Travis Kelce,” appears to be aimed at Bud Light’s alienated male drinkers but most of the video’s comments lambasted the brand for the latest attempt to save face.
“Man Bud Light is going for the death blow at this point,” one commenter wrote. “This is what they think of their client base, stupid grunting cavemen.”
“Hey look! ‘Fratty’ and ‘out of touch’ is back in style at Bud Light,” another wrote.
“I don’t understand how this appeals to Bud Light’s target market, transgender youth,” a third comment said.
Given all the male grunting, are we sure this ad wasn’t left over from Pride month?

Exit question: Too soon?

DISPATCHES FROM THE EDUCATION APOCALYPSE: Students expecting a ‘fight to the death’ to get a spot in Stanford’s new Taylor Swift class.
Stanford student Ava Jeffs is in her professor era.
The rising sophomore and lifelong “Swiftie” — a term used to describe fans of pop music icon Taylor Swift — is creating the curriculum for a new English class that examines the singer’s songwriting over the course of her career. Swift is in the middle of a record-setting global tour, dubbed “The Eras Tour,” which takes fans through a more than three-hour journey through her 10 albums.
Her latest, “Midnights” — which dropped last October and broke Spotify’s record for the most album streams in a single day — was billed by Swift as “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.”
“The whole goal of the class is to dive into the art of songwriting, exploring the interplay between literary references and lyricism and storytelling in Taylor Swift’s entire discography, taking it one album at a time and trying to look at the evolution of using songwriting as a narrative form,” Jeffs said. “It will draw parallels to classic works of literature and poetry in each album and gain a deeper understanding of the narrative power of music.”
The class is titled “The Last Great American Songwriter: Storytelling with Taylor Swift through the Eras,” and is a play on Swift’s song “The Last Great American Dynasty” from her eighth studio album, “Folklore.” It’s the second Swift class at Stanford after “All Too Well (Ten Week Version)” was taught earlier this year and gave students a chance to analyze the 10-minute version of the song with the same name.
According to Google, tuition and housing at Stanford can run about $78,898 — or slightly lower than scoring a pair of Taylor Swift tickets.
