DO WOMEN KNOW ABOUT SHRINKAGE? Where’s the beef? Er, chicken. A reader sends this and writes: “When does the RNC start running Clara Edward’s ads again? Attached is a photo of the tiny chicken that Popeyes is now reduced to serving thanks to Biden’s massive inflation. The Democrats are running their 1978 playbook by the numbers.”

Flashback: Democrats’ war on suburban women includes inflation-fueling reckless spending.
WELL, IMPORTANT PEOPLE DESERVE TO BE PROTECTED WITH GUNS: Joe Battenfeld: Ayanna Pressley’s taxpayer funded security a sad sign of the times.
What seems like an outrage is really a sad sign of the times — our “defund the police” Squad member spending $63,000 in taxpayer money on “private security.”
U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley reported the security payments from her House spending account in her latest reporting period, according to the Daily Caller.
The Boston congresswoman in the past reported spending money from her campaign account on security services but now apparently has moved on to using taxpayer dollars.
Could she have continued to use campaign funds and spared taxpayers from paying the bill? Sure.
Lefty politicians who get “death threats” deserve protection. Ordinary people who speak out and get death threats should shut the fuck up and listen to their betters.

FLORIDA’S ‘DON’T SAY GAY’ BILL PLAYS INTO DESANTIS’S HANDS:
In refusing to kowtow to Democratic histrionics — which DeSantis has been doing since early in the pandemic — the governor adopted a signature rhetorical move of his own: he set the political frame and never bended to faux emotionality or backtracked once committed to a position. DeSantis understands that if you don’t fall for Democrats’ emotional blackmail, eventually they’ll have to defend the inconvenient facts. If they scream “don’t say gay,” you counter with “are you okay with a random teacher talking to little kids about sexuality?” and let them attempt to sell that line to normal Americans.
As a Floridian, it’s been fascinating to watch DeSantis become a smooth political operator ready for primetime. In the early days of the pandemic, he was an inexperienced newcomer in search of an identity and governance style. Yet he proved to be up to the challenge, and the ensuing pandemic years honed his burgeoning political personality. He was quicker than most when it came to removing unnecessary pandemic restrictions, but he held his frame — the first time — when pro-lockdown Democrats called him genocidal.
Next, he was forceful in getting kids back to in-person learning, and when faced with histrionics yet again, he never gave in to the screams of “Deathsantis.” But now that the pandemic is in the rearview mirror and DeSantis is looking toward a possible presidential run, he needs more than just popular pandemic policies and an immovable frame — he needs to round out his political platform.
Lately, one gets the sense that DeSantis’s maneuvering in Florida has less to do with the state and more to do with the DeSantis doctrine; the fact that Florida is now the “free state of Florida” and buzzing with newcomers is incidental to the larger project at hand. Which is to say that Florida Democrats have played right into his hands with the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

STACY MCCAIN: ‘A Difficult Midterm.’
Nice understatement from Politico:
Just after 10 p.m. Wednesday night, the House passed the $1.5 trillion omnibus bill, the first step toward averting a government shutdown and enacting Democratic spending priorities after more than 400 days operating under Trump-era budgets extended via continuing resolutions.
But the party’s joy of the occasion was short-lived, as Democratic infighting quickly gobbled up the headlines and forced a daylong delay of the bill’s consideration. . . .
Pelosi’s frustration with the situation was palpable.
“Let’s grow up about this, OK?” she steamed in her press conference Wednesday. “We’re in a legislative process. We have a deadline for keeping the government open. We have a lively negotiation. It has to be bipartisan. … You need 60 votes in the Senate.”
And . . . the issue has set the Democrats’ retreat off to a rocky start at a time when they should be unifying before a difficult midterm. “This retreat is cursed,” Pocan said.Democrats are completely f**ked this November, and everybody knows it, which is why so many Democrats in Congress are retiring.
Don’t get cocky. As Glenn has written, “If you want to win, donate and volunteer. Winning takes work, and commenting on Internet blogs, even this one, doesn’t count.”

JON GABRIEL: Biden can take a bow for rising gas prices. He did that!
I didn’t use to dread pulling up to the gas pump. Now I’d rather ask my dentist for an elective root canal.
As I dumped 60 bucks into my mid-size sedan, I noticed someone had slapped one of those Biden stickers on the pump, pointing at the price and saying “I did that.”
Gas station attendants probably spend a couple hours every day scraping those off.
When President Biden took office, the national average price of regular gas was $2.38 per gallon.
Today, it’s $4.25, a 79% increase. He has repeatedly explained that this has nothing to do with his brilliant policies. It’s everyone else’s fault.

None of this was a surprise. Biden bragged about his anti-energy campaign during the presidential campaign.
“No more drilling including offshore,” Biden said during a 2020 primary debate. “No ability for the oil industry to continue to drill, period. It ends.”
Actions have consequences; high gas prices are the predictable result.
After banning Russian oil, Biden hasn’t quite figured out how to replace it. In a little over a year, America went from energy independence to buying about 10 percent of our fuel from Putin.
Hard to believe that prior to 2021, “the United States was a net exporter of oil and natural gas. When operating at capacity – which requires the cooperation of the government on a number of fronts – we have more than enough fuel to meet all of our needs. We’re just not doing what needs to be done to get it to all of the places where it’s needed. So yes, Joe Biden has significant (though not complete) control over energy prices.”

H.D. Miller: Basque-American: The Authentic Cuisine of the Intermountain West.
Basque hotels are where the locals eat, and in the rural west the locals prefer meat, potatoes, beans and dozen old-fashioned, garlicky side dishes, not tapas. This is why the Basque places seem locked in the past, because the people who eat at them are conservative in every sense of the word, ranchers, farmers, miners and the people who make their living servicing those industries. The Basque sheepherders, despite the barrier of language and religion, fit right in to the culture of the West. After 1876, the Basque most likely to come to America were the losers of the Carlist Wars, the most traditional and conservative elements of Basque society, those who believed in the Church and Basque nationalism, which is why those two institutions flourish in strange, Mormon-sotted places like Idaho.
Basque sheepherders continued to arrive in America right up until the 1960s, when Spain finally emerged from the economic funk brought on by the Spanish Civil War and Franco’s tepid support of the Axis during World War II. At that point, trailing sheep no longer seemed a good option, and the work was given over to newer immigrants from Peru and Boliva. By then, most of the Basquos, second and third generation, had moved up the immigrant ladder, and the Basque hotels closed their upstairs rooms. But downstairs, the dining rooms continued to serve their abundant meals, luxurious with meat and garlic, accompanied by bottomless tureens of soup and more beans then they could imagine in one meal back home.

ANNALS OF LEFTIST AUTOPHAGY: Drag Queen Who Says Biden Is a ‘Senile’ ‘White Supremacist’ Scheduled To Perform at Dem Retreat.
During a debate between Terry McAuliffe and Glenn Youngkin in October when both were vying for the governorship of Virginia, Youngkin said to McAuliffe, ‘You believe school systems should tell children what to do. I believe parents should be in charge of their kids’ education.’
In response, McAuliffe said, ‘I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.’
Youngkin’s message resonated with Virginia parents, and they elected him Governor over the favored Democrat.
The woke assault on childhood innocence in American classrooms is occurring nationwide.
In November in Virginia, parents reasserted their rights to have a say about what their own children were learning in classrooms.
In Florida, lawmakers saw what their constituents wanted. It wasn’t a ‘don’t say gay’ bill, it was a full-throated defense of parent’s rights.
It was a winning political issue in Virginia, and it will play out similarly in elections nationwide.
Parents see the kind of radical ideology progressives are trying to brainwash their children with and those who are willing to stand up against it.
