THE PROGRESSIVE CARTEL:  Who enforces the “progressive cartel?”  Put differently, who makes sure that all progressives toe the line on issues like transgender locker rooms, etc.?  These things don’t happen by magic.  Michael Lind writes:

Who decides what is and is not permissible for American progressives to think or discuss or support?  The answer is the Ford Foundation, the Open Society Foundation, the Omidyar Network, and other donor foundations, an increasing number of which are funded by fortunes rooted in Silicon Valley.  It is this donor elite, bound together by a set of common class prejudices and economic interests, on which most progressive media, think tanks, and advocacy groups depend for funding.

Lind isn’t a big fan of what he calls “Conservatism, Inc.” either.  He’s not entirely wrong.  But my experience has been we’re not (yet) in the same league with our progressive brethren on this.

JIM TREACHER: Musk Triggers Mass Journophrenia. Journos love free speech unless it’s yours. “If the journos had their way, you never would’ve known anything about Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop full of incriminating evidence of his ongoing criminal conspiracy with his father. Because having that information might make you vote the wrong way. And that’s fascism! Stop bringing up facts that make Democrats look bad, you Nazi.”

THE FORMS MUST BE OBEYED: “Part of the Left’s outrage at Trump was his refusal to speak in hieratic language.* He’s spent his life buying and selling politicians, negotiating with construction unions, bureaucrats, and The Boys.”

Plus: “Those people who got so mad at Trump for lying — in Mamet’s view, what really made them mad was that he did not lie. Consider that. It’s the language he eschewed — the ‘hieratic language’ — that’s full of lies.” Well, yes. That’s the language of politicians, media, and HR bureaucrats. It’s designed to facilitate — if not actually require — lies.

DEPEND UPON IT, SIR; WHEN A MAN KNOWS THE MIDTERMS ARE IN NOVEMBER, IT CONCENTRATES HIS MIND WONDERFULLY: White House restarting federal oil, gas lease sales next week.

Flashback to March 7th: ‘I know the facts can be inconvenient’: Psaki snaps at question over why Biden isn’t producing more domestic oil, blames Putin for the rise in prices at the pump and says there is still no decision to ban Russian energy imports. “‘To be very clear federal policies are not limiting the supplies of oil and gas,’ Psaki said.”

DANIEL GREENFIELD: Disney’s Business Model is Turning Kids Into Dysfunctional Adults. “The entertainment industry went from a leisure enterprise to one that thrives on dysfunction, that is less interested in having 60% of the country watching something for an hour than having 10% of the country binge watch it for six hours. Ratings and demographic profiles of the industry reflect a profound shift away from entertainment as a past time to entertainment as a lifestyle. And even an identity.”

PARTY OF YOUTH UPDATE: The gerontocracy protects its own.

Democrats only really began to debate whether [Dianne] Feinstein remained able to represent 40 million people when she oversaw the confirmation hearings of now-Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett as ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. But Feinstein’s cognitive decline has been apparent for some time now. Even before Feinstein famously turned the Brett Kavanaugh hearings into a partisan bloodbath — you may recall how the octogenarian first sat on Christine Blasey Ford’s letter until it leaked to the public — Feinstein allowed a Chinese spy to spend 20 years on her staff. In any other profession, Feinstein would have been put out to pasture long ago.

Instead, four Senators, three of whom are Democrats, are now sounding the alarm to Feinstein’s own hometown paper. Two say Feinstein failed to even recognize them, and several other people said Feinstein seemed to lose her mind while speaking at a memorial for a late San Francisco official — twice. Feinstein initially forgot to even mention the memorial’s subject, whom she had known for decades. She then returned to speak up again but spoke about the decedent in the present tense.

Questioning Feinstein being near the end of her shelf life leads to questions about the Big Guy’s sell-through date having long expired. And as former and current Democratic Party operative Chuck Todd notes: Democrats don’t want to deal with questions about Biden’s age.

“It’s a tricky thing,” Todd said later in the panel. “If you start again, if you start questioning Dianne Feinstein, the president of the United States is going to start getting this stuff, and that’s something the party doesn’t want to have to deal with, those questions here.”

Questions about moments such as this: “‘After Biden finished his speech, he turned around and tried to shake hands with thin air and then wandered around looking confused.’ Joe Biden had been, for decades, a corrupt and incompetent pol. Today, he is either an extreme left-winger or an empty vessel through which the extreme left is exerting control over America. Nevertheless, I feel sorry for him. It is hard to understand how those close to him, starting with his wife, can allow him to be so constantly humiliated. It is nothing less than elder abuse.”

During that same speech, “Biden pulled a Biden and did some resume padding by claiming he was a ‘full professor’ at the University of Pennsylvania during the brief time he was not in office. Biden has a long history of lying about his personal accomplishments, to be sure, but claiming to have been a professor as one of those is a stretch even for him. Biden said, ‘I’ve been at a lot of university campuses, matter of fact for four years, I was a full professor at the University of Pennsylvania.’”

JULIE KELLY: The Other Fednapping Plot: The same FBI operation that ginned up the phony kidnapping plot in Michigan also tried to coax a Virginia man to participate in a similar scheme against Governor Ralph Northam.

Defense attorneys successfully argued that multiple FBI agents and informants attempted to induce the men to commit the crimes and blasted the government in closing arguments.

“That’s unacceptable in America,” Fox’s attorney, Christopher Gibbons, told the jury on April 1. “That’s not how it works. They don’t make terrorists so we can arrest them.”

But the government not only attempted to manufacture “terrorists” in the Whitmer kidnapping hoax—the same FBI operation also tried to coax a man in Virginia to participate in the same sort of plot against Virginia Governor Ralph Northam. That scheme didn’t fully materialize, but the FBI’s attempt to pull off a similar stunt in Virginia reveals just how far agents were willing to go to bolster FBI Director Christopher Wray’s false warning that domestic extremists planned to “kill and assassinate” public officials.

In summer 2020, Dan Chappel, the main informant in the Whitmer fednapping who was compensated at least $60,000 by the FBI for his services, targeted a man named Frank Butler, a disabled veteran in his late 60s and an alleged militia member. Taking instructions from Jayson Chambers, one of his FBI handling agents, Chappel used the same playbook in Virginia.

“Dan suggests to Frank that he engage in acts of domestic terror,” defense attorneys wrote in a joint motion filed last year in the Whitmer case. “Like the defendants in this case, Dan suggested to Frank that he attack the governor of Virginia.”

Screenshots submitted into evidence show a jaw dropping exchange between Chappel and Chambers in August 2020. “Goin [sic] to call frank butler today,” Chappel texted Chambers, asking for direction on what he should say to his target.

“Mission is to kill the governor specifically,” Chambers replied.

Just as in the Whitmer plot, Chappel lured Frank Butler into attempting to build an explosive device. Another text exchange in September 2020 shows Chappel and Chambers discussing a “recipe” for a bomb that Chappel can provide to Butler. After passing along the information to Butler, Chappel texted Chambers to tell him Frank planned on purchasing bomb-making supplies. “Awesome. Excellent work,” Chambers told Chappel.

Chappel also invited Butler to a field training exercise in Wisconsin during the last weekend in October, an excursion attended by some defendants in the Whitmer caper.

“This event, like all the others,” defense attorneys wrote, “was conceived, planned, and conducted by the federal investigative team of agents and undercover informants working together to provide a stage upon which to manipulate their targets into acting out ostensibly incriminating behavior the government hoped to elicit in its bid to develop and then ‘interrupt’ the operation of a ‘domestic terrorist organization.’”

Butler, who cannot drive due to disabilities, did not participate. And to date, he has not been charged with any crime.

Northam, like Whitmer, made the most of the imaginary threat against him. Also like Whitmer, Northam repeatedly blamed Trump for the FBI-concocted plot, adding to nonstop news coverage as Americans were already voting for president.

It’s pretty clear that the FBI was electioneering here, as it was in pushing the now-exploded Russian-collusion claims. If you’re looking for an actual insurrection, it occurred with in the FBI and the political class generally, who abused their power specifically to get rid of a democratically elected president in order to install one who was manifestly unqualified for the job.

I WONDER WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS? Rare, severe liver damage reported in kids in U.S. and Europe. “Dr. Wes Stubblefield, district medical officer for the Alabama Department of Public Health, said that all of the children were otherwise healthy before becoming ill, and that there is no obvious link among the children.”
