THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING: Nobody seems to miss KJP’s press briefings.

Did you notice any unusually provocative questions during the White House press briefing this week? Your answer is almost certainly “no,” because there was no briefing for the White House Press Corps yesterday. And there wasn’t one all of last week. In fact, there hasn’t been a press briefing since August 9th, more than two weeks ago. Has anyone even noticed the complete absence of Karine Jean-Pierre (whose name you should always say in an exaggerated French accent) from the lectern where she is supposed to keep the media up-to-date on what Joe Biden is up to? As Jim Geraghty points out at National Review, nobody seems to be complaining. In fact, the silence from nearly all of the mainstream media is rather jarring. If there can be such a complete vacuum in terms of media correspondence from the Biden administration and all we hear is the sound of crickets, are these briefings really worth the time we invest in them?

Yes, part of what we’re seeing here – or more correctly, not seeing – may simply be a silent admission that the White House press briefings under the tenure of KJP simply aren’t worth very much. After all, the most common answer that reporters receive includes the phrase “I don’t have anything for you.” It’s as if people inside the Biden administration don’t really bother telling her much about what’s going on.

To be fair, there doesn’t seem to be any one person in the White House who actually knows what’s going on.

MALONEY ACCUSES NADLER OF BEING TOOL OF SEXISTS, MISOGYNISTS: Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) has represented Upper East Side Manhattanites — the vast majority of whom are liberal Democrats — for three decades.

But when her constituents were combined with Upper West Side Manhattanites represented by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) — also overwhelmingly liberal Democrats —  Maloney got blown out by 30 points in a head-to-head Democratic primary matchup.

Why did Maloney lose? She pointed to “sexist systems and misogyny that continues today — as we know from my campaign,” The Blaze reports. Maloney didn’t clarify whether she was referring to the sexists and misogynists in her district or those in Nadler’s.

Maloney is currently chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, while Nadler is chairman of the House Committee on the Judiciary. Who knew Nadler was a tool of sexists and misogynists?

THIS IS THE WAY: Grassroots alert: Conservatives — and DeSantis — score big in FL school-board elections.

Meanwhile, Charlie Crist, DeSantis’s opponent in November, is doing outreach to GOP voters rather wrong: “Those who support DeSantis should stay with him and vote for him and I don’t want your vote. If you have that hate in your heart, keep it there.” Also from Crist: “In a separate interview on Wednesday, Crist told CNN that Joe Biden has been a ‘phenomenal’ president. ‘He’s the best I’ve ever met,’ Crist said, adding that he wants Biden to campaign for him in Florida.”

THE SCIENCE IS UNSETTLED: YouTube Now Allows Users to Say Masks Didn’t Stop COVID Spread. “Does Stanford School of Medicine Professor Dr. Jay Bhattacharya get a second chance? ‘In March 2021, @YouTube banned a video of me telling @GovRonDeSantis that there was no high quality evidence that force masking children protects anyone from covid,’ Dr. Bhattacharya wrote. ‘Shame on YouTube for censoring to support CDC propaganda. The Science(tm) changed, but the science didn’t.’ Will YouTube re-allow the videos it removed to appear anew? In April 2021, YouTube deleted a video of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis accurately debunking the efficacy of masks in schools. YouTube then removed a video in which Rand Paul (R-KY) discussed the science behind masks-wearing. Anonymous YouTube employees then suspended Paul from the service.”

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DUKAKIS TANK VIDEO AND THE LATEST FROM RON DESANTIS: “Dukakis did a photo op that created a visual that could be weaponized against him. The Bush campaign used it in their ad. DeSantis made an ad, and those who want to use it against him end up showing his ad. So the pro-DeSantis ad is viral, carried along by his haters. And it’s driving attention to his military background, which is quite impressive.”

Dukakis was trying to look like something he wasn’t. DeSantis is reminding us of something he is, and his haters are helping. From the comments: “Dukakis in a tank was funny because he was so out of place in that tank. DeSantis as Tom Cruise works because it fits with the persona he has successfully cultivated.”

Also, most of the electorate is too young to remember the Dukakis ad — though to be fair, most the the Democratic Party leadership was already old when it appeared.

SIGN OF THE TIMES?

It’s a real account. Is it also a parody? Who can tell anymore?

Anyway, emphasize education over partying and colleges will lose half their enrollment.

DENAZIFICATION, YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG: Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, August 23.

Russian government sources confirmed that Russia is bringing Ukrainian children to Russia and having Russian families adopt them. Russian federal subject (region) Krasnodar Krai’s Family and Childhood Administration posted about a program under which Russian authorities transferred over 1,000 children from Mariupol to Tyumen, Irkutsk, Kemerov, and Altay Krai where Russian families have adopted them.[1] The Administration stated that over 300 children are still waiting to “meet their new families” and that citizens who decide to adopt these children will be provided with a one-time bonus by the state.[2] Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) additionally reported that Russian officials transferred 30 Ukrainian children from Khartsyzk, Ilovaysk, and Zuhres in occupied Donetsk Oblast to Nizhny Novgorod under the guise of having the children participate in youth educational-training programs.[3] The forcible transfer of children of one group to another “with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group“ is a violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.[4]

Russia has scrubbed the page and claims it was hacked.

WILL THE WPOST CORRECT ITS SEVEN HUGE ERRORS ON THE NRSC? I’m not holding my breath, but these really are big goofs that could have been avoided with even minimal effort on the part of the guy whose name appears on the byline. Or the desk editor who read it. Or somebody who was conscious on the copy desk.

WELL: Congress Admits UFOs Not ‘Man-Made,’ Says ‘Threats’ Increasing ‘Exponentially’.

A large question, of course, is why Congress is seemingly admitting this now, in public. After all, lawmakers are privy to classified information that the general public isn’t. “It strains credulity to believe that lawmakers would include such extraordinary language in public legislation without compelling evidence,” Marik von Rennenkampff, an Obama-era DoD official, said in an op-ed in The Hill about the budget. According to the op-ed, the comments were first noticed by UFO researcher Douglas Johnson.

“This implies that members of the Senate Intelligence Committee believe (on a unanimous, bipartisan basis) that some UFOs have non-human origins,” von Rennenkampff continued. “After all, why would Congress establish and task a powerful new office with investigating non-‘man-made’ UFOs if such objects did not exist?”

“Make no mistake: One branch of the American government implying that UFOs have non-human origins is an explosive development.”

Well, one advantage of admitting it now is that there’s so much crazy sh*t going on that people will barely notice.

BARNA GROUP FINDS ‘PRACTICING CHRISTIANS’ MOST GENEROUS: It’s by a fairly wide margin, too, but overall Americans generally view themselves as being generous and the actual numbers for their giving bear them out.

WHO YOU GONNA BELIEVE, JOE OR YOUR OWN LYIN’ WALLET? Voters Don’t Buy Biden’s Claims on Recession. “Nearly 70 percent of respondents told Hart Research Associated/Public Opinion Strategies, which conducted the poll for NBC, that the U.S. economy has fallen into a recession. The finding comes after Biden has insisted that the country is not in a recession, which most sources define as two consecutive quarters of GDP drops. The Commerce Department reported last month that the GDP dropped for two consecutive quarters.”
