EVERYTHING IS GOING SWIMMINGLY: U.S. rents surge, leaving behind generation of younger workers.

Household rents in 2021 jumped 10% from pre-pandemic levels, according to Census Bureau estimates released last week. The figures came as rising healthcare and rental costs pushed U.S. consumer prices up unexpectedly last month.

The data from the bureau’s annual American Community Survey put median U.S. rent at $1,037 in 2021, up from $941 in 2019. Year-over-year increases in the median household rent over the past decade were typically 2% or 3% – one exception was the 5% rise from 2018 to 2019.

Among those affected most are recent college graduates and other new entrants to the workforce, who have little in savings and cannot afford to buy a house.

GOOD QUESTION: Why Isn’t Marilyn Mosby in Prison Yet? “Mosby was indicted by a federal grand jury earlier this year on perjury and mortgage fraud charges related to her purchase of two vacation homes in Florida. Her trial has been postponed until next March. She was defeated in her bid to be re-elected to a third term, losing the Democratic primary in July. God only knows whether Baltimore will ever recover from the damage Mosby inflicted on the city since being elected in 2014.”

CANADIAN SCHOOL SAYS BIOLOGICAL MALE TEACHER WHO INSISTS ON WEARING CARTOONISHLY LARGE FAKE BREASTS IS PROTECTED BY LAW:  Ed Driscoll posted this yesterday, but I want to add this:  (1) Make sure you see the pictures … this is indeed Weimar Republic stuff; and (2) I don’t know what Canadian law is on this subject, but Title VII here in the USA would not have required this result.  Here’s why:  All Justice Gorsuch’s opinion in Bostock v. Clayton County did was say that if a woman is allowed to wear a skirt and employ feminine mannerisms, then a man must also be allowed to do so, too.  But I don’t believe for a moment that an employer would allow a women to teach a class wearing cartoonishly large fake bazongas breasts complete with nipples.

Shot: Fauci slammed for denying school lockdowns ‘irreparably damaged’ kids: ‘No remorse.’

Dr. Anthony Fauci is being slammed for a Tuesday interview on Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto” during which he downplayed the documented impact that the government’s school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic had on children.

During one exchange, Cavuto asked, “In retrospect doctor, do you regret that it went too far? … Particularly for kids who couldn’t go to school except remotely, that it’s forever damaged them.”

“Well, I don’t think it’s forever irreparably damaged anyone,” Fauci responded before saying, “People selectively … pull things out about me.”

Chaser: Fauci admits he knew ‘draconian’ lockdowns would have ‘collateral negative consequences’ on schoolchildren.

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci admitted Wednesday that he knew the “draconian” COVID-19 policies he pushed for would lead to “collateral negative consequences” for the “economy” and “schoolchildren.”

Fauci’s comments came during day one of The Atlantic Festival, a three-day convention put on by the media outlet The Atlantic featuring speeches and interviews from prominent members of the media, the government and political activists.

During the event, Fauci spoke with The Atlantic editor Ross Andersen in front of a live audience about his experiences as the leading medical professional working in the federal government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In one segment of his talk, the doctor spoke about his guidance in instituting “draconian” pandemic guidance knowing full well there would be “collateral” damage stemming from it.

Before making his central point, Fauci first blamed the “divisiveness” of “social media” for turning every piece of his guidance during the pandemic into a confusing and controversial statement.

NYT: A Shrinking Margin.

Whatever the full explanation, Hispanic voters have moved to the right over the past several years. As a group, they still prefer Democrats, but the margin has narrowed significantly. In 2020, Joe Biden won the group by only 26 percentage points. And in this year’s midterms, the Democratic lead is nearly identical to Biden’s 2020 margin, according to the latest New York Times/Siena College poll — a sign that the shift was not just a one-election blip.

The problem for Democrats is that winning the Hispanic vote by only 26 points may not be enough for the party to accomplish its main goals.

What I’d like to see is GOP candidates more directly talking about Hispanic voters’ concerns and, better yet, going to Hispanic communities and doing a lot of listening.

A little listening goes a long way, and aside from Trump and a very few other GOPers, Republicans haven’t been good about going into Dem strongholds just to do some of that.

YES, BUT SHE WILL FACE NO CONSEQUENCES: Did Nina Totenberg Have a Conflict of Interest in Covering Justice Ginsburg? Based upon Totenberg’s new book, a prominent legal ethicist thinks the conflict was a real one. “To protect Ginsburg from surprises, Totenberg routinely alerted her in advance to the topics she intended to cover, which is generally prohibited by NPR’s Ethics Handbook.”

Plus: “NPR’s management evidently decided that Totenberg’s star quality justified the risk.”
