JOE BIDEN’S RETURN TO CLEAN GOVERNMENT: White House Edits Transcript of Biden Comment in Saudi Arabia. “Regardless of whether you believe Biden’s account of the words exchanged, they were a far cry from his tough rhetoric during the campaign. Yet, for the puppetmasters at the White House, Biden’s words may have been a little too tough. So, the handlers went full Orwell and edited the official White House transcript.”

REPORTERS DON’T TAKE SIDES, WE’RE TOLD: Most left-leaning journalists say conservative media does not deserve equal coverage. “Age was also a factor in the study, with 63 percent of younger journalists aged 18 to 29, who disproportionately report to left-wing audiences, being most likely to admit biased coverage of the issues. Similarly, 60 percent of those aged 30-49 do not support equal coverage of alternative viewpoints. Journalists 50 and older, however, are evenly split between the two viewpoints.”

JEFF GOLDSTEIN OF THE EXCELLENT PROTEIN WISDOM BLOG COULD USE SOME HELP: Supporting our family.

As many of you know, Satchel’s battle with brain cancer resulted in a loss of his pituitary, and with that came a lifetime medical bill that requires replacement therapies and drugs that are hugely expensive out of pocket. His particular cancer is very rare (1 case per 1mil); and much of his treatment — mood balancers, growth hormones, testosterone, et al — is not common. We get our health insurance through my wife’s company. It isn’t very good, and as a result, we start each year $36k in the hole.

We’ve weathered the storm for 5+ years. But we’re at a crossroads now. Inflation has crippled us, as I’m sure it has many of you. We’re maxed out on credit. So we either come up with $40k or we’ll lose our house — or be forced to sell in an unkind market.

I pitched in.

UPDATE (FROM GLENN): Bumped, and I donated too. Jeff’s a good guy who goes back to the earliest days of the blogosphere. He raised a lot of money, only to discover that GiveSendGo takes a truly whopping cut. Help him out if you’re willing.

ANOTHER UPDATE (FROM GLENN): My mistake, the problem is with Stripe, not GiveSendGo. Sorry, I was confused.

HMM: Amazon executives have discussed ditching Amazon Basics to appease regulators. “The conversations at Amazon around abandoning its private labels occurred on-and-off for several years as scrutiny of the business line heightened, the source said, with executives expressing a desire to keep this potential remedy under wraps so that it could come across to regulators as a major concession. Leaders in favor of such a decision believed that Amazon had a right to sell private-label brands as many retailers do, but that the business was not strategically crucial enough to defend in the face of more severe potential remedies sought by antitrust enforcers. When a company like Amazon offers such a concession, it does so with the hope of closing down any current investigations.”

IF IT MOVES, TAX IT: New Colorado retail delivery fee causing issues for small businesses. “Colorado has a new 27 cents retail delivery fee that applies to all deliveries by motor vehicles. This includes Amazon deliveries, florist deliveries, food delivery and more. Many small business owners in Colorado Springs are not happy with the new fee, and one small business owner tells KKTV 11 News that it’s costing her more than $100,000 to implement new software and systems around the fee for all her business.”

JOEL POLLAK: Biden Succeeds In Israel by Abandoning His Own Policies.

In the 2020 campaign, Biden sought to appease anti-Israel voices within his own party by promising to open a consulate for the Palestinians in “East Jerusalem.” He also vowed to bring back the Iran nuclear deal, and he criticized Saudi Arabia harshly.

Today, Biden has abandoned plans for a Palestinian consulate that would divide the city — so much so that the White House had to walk back a gaffe by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, a noted Russia hoaxer, that Biden still intended to do so.

Biden signed a declaration committing to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon; he told Israeli TV the U.S. would use force. And he is flying from Tel Aviv to Saudi Arabia — after Trump flew the first direct leg in the opposite direction in 2017.

Biden clings to the conceit that he is somehow correcting his predecessor’s mistakes.

Who knows, at this point he might even believe it.

CRISIS BY DESIGN: ‘There’s No Money’: ICE Is Set To Run Out Of Funding Amid Record Migrant Surge. “Instead of seeking enforcement resources, the Biden administration is putting more money into so-called Alternatives to Detention, but more specifically into what they call ‘case management’ and ‘wraparound services’ which means endless taxpayer handouts for illegal aliens.”

DON’T GET COCKY: Republicans Are Favored to Win the Senate.

Recently there has been a spate of stories about Republicans’ difficulties in taking over the Senate. These analyses typically focus on candidates’ poor polling numbers in key states and the weakness of the Republican recruiting class.

These aren’t absurd analyses; I’ve referred to the battle between the overall electoral environment and Republican candidate quality as “the irresistible force versus the immovable object” in previous columns. Had the Republican Party fielded its A-team in states like Georgia, Pennsylvania and Arizona, we probably would not be talking about Democrats even having a shot at retaining the Senate.

At the same time, we shouldn’t get carried away. While Republican candidate quality is an issue, good analysis should not lose sight of the fact that environment matters as well, and probably more so these days. President Joe Biden’s job approval is 37.7% in the RealClearPolitics Average, a mark reached only briefly by former President Donald Trump in August and December of 2017, and never touched by former President Barack Obama. While the map isn’t as favorable for Republicans as it will be in 2024, it isn’t unfavorable, either.

I have no idea who will control the Senate, but I suspect there will be a lot of protest votes against Biden, or at least a lot of no-shows.
