BEEGE WELLBORN On Pelosi: We’re not falling for the ‘Right Wing Terrorist in the Tailpipe’ joke.

San Francisco Police finally had a press conference and said they’d arrived answering a “welfare check” call. Initially, they muddied the water with their phraseology about officers finding “both men holding a hammer” and most listeners interpreted that as each man had a hammer. In fact, there was only one hammer, and they each had ahold of it. The suspect, identified as David DePape and wearing only underwear, wrested the hammer from Paul Pelosi and, in front of the officers, then proceeded to inflict grievous wounds on him, including a skull fracture that required immediate surgery (please heal quickly, dude) before officers could control the situation.

To quote Les Nessman, it gets pretty strange after that.

GASLIGHT MUCH? Gov. Kathy Hochul’s ‘Conspiracy’ About Crime. “People rightly become much more concerned when some homeless felon drug addict, who’s been in and out of the system multiple times, and has just been let out without bail again, randomly stabs someone in the street, or pushes someone in front of an oncoming subway train because the voices in their head told them to.”

NOTHING TO SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG: Democratic Staffer Fired After Covertly Working With Chinese Embassy. “The staffer, Barbara Hamlett, allegedly reached out to other Congressional staffers and attempted to arrange meetings between them and Chinese Embassy officials for at least several months, National Review reported. Beyer quickly fired Hamlett after he learned of the allegations against her and investigated.”

HE’S BACK ON TV? Chris Cuomo in search of new time slot amid sinking ratings. “An inside source reported to the New York Post that Cuomo is pining for a 9 p.m. time slot instead, replacing host Dan Abrams after he himself was only hired by the news network this month. The former CNN host is ‘starting to blame everyone but himself’ for the ratings, according to the Post’s source, ‘he’s blaming the network, staff that he personally hired, his lead-in, the promo department and even the press department.'”

IT’S WHAT THEY DO: Amazon Fascists Ban Another Book That Leftists Hate. “New English Review Press announced Sunday that a book it published back in 2017, The Islam in Islamic Terrorism: The Importance of Beliefs, Ideas, and Ideology by the renowned ex-Muslim scholar Ibn Warraq, has been pulled for sale from Amazon without explanation or the possibility of appeal.”

UPDATE (FROM GLENN): A friend comments: “Looking at the news today, if Elon wants an idea of what else Twitter can do, setting up a Twitter Book Mart and selling books (including, or especially those dropped by amazon) would be a good and useful one. The actual physical distribution of books is straightforward; publicizing them is the hard part. And the one thing Twitter does really well is publicize.”

AT LEAST SHE LEFT THE BUBBLE, IF ONLY BRIEFLY: Jen Psaki Travels to Pennsylvania to Interview Voters, Doesn’t Get the Answers She Wanted.

The conversation started with the Planned Parenthood representative plugging Democrats John Fetterman and Josh Shapiro, saying that they will protect “women’s health care and access to abortions.” But when asked what she actually cares about, the woman responded by talking about jobs and the cost of living, noting to Psaki that “I’m sure it’s not the answer you wanted.”

That should have been expected given polls consistently show abortion is not a top issue for the vast majority of Americans. After all, why would anyone care about the largely nebulous topic of abortion more than being able to feed the children they have? It is the peak of bubble-dwelling for Psaki to go knock on doors pushing abortion when inflation is 8.2 percent.

The former Biden official did her best to spin the commentary she received in an article she wrote post-trip, but I’m not so sure she did a good job.

I’m not getting cocky, but at this point it looks like the big-name Dems are out repeating the expected talking points to avoid a total collapse among the true believers.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: New Twitter Is Full of Glorious Musk-Scented Liberal Tears. “I kept popping on and off of Twitter all weekend just for the straight hits of schadenfreude and it never took me long to get my fix. The aforementioned weeping and gnashing of teeth had devolved into garment-rending and diaper-soiling and — not gonna lie — it was kind of fun to watch.”

WITH RUTHLESS EFFICIENCY: How Xi sacrificed China’s future in pursuit of total power.

His power, and the sense that he is determined to enforce China’s cultural and military dominance even at the expense of prosperity, has sent a chill through domestic investors and the world order alike.

Proof of Xi’s apparent lack of interest in the economic consequences of his actions can be seen in the Communist leader’s choice for his second in command.

Striding out behind President Xi Jinping at the country’s recently ended Communist Party Congress last weekend, Li Qiang has become a symbol of China’s future.

A man with no central government experience, Li and other members of the Politburo Standing Committee – equivalent to the presidential cabinet – all owe their careers to Xi.

Li Keqiang, the market-orientated premier, has been sidelined. As have central bank governor Yi Gang and China’s top trade negotiator Liu He. Technocrats are out. Loyalists are in.

“China has paid a high price economically in order to maintain low Covid infection,” says Vera Yuen, a lecturer in economics at the Hong Kong University Business School.

“That zero-Covid policy is likely to continue. That will affect China’s connectivity with the rest of the world.”

Xi seems only to be concerned with Communist China’s relative position in the world. If the price of his power is a weaker economy and society, he’ll look for more ways to harm ours.

THE NEW SPACE RACE: NASA Will Launch ‘Psyche’ Mission To Explore Asteroid Worth More Than The Global Economy.

16 Psyche—a 140-mile-wide/226-kilometer-wide asteroid—could contain a core of iron, nickel and gold worth $10,000 quadrillion.

NASA’s Psyche spacecraft was set to launch in August 2022 and arrive at the asteroid in 2026. However, software issues and mission development problems meant the mission missed its window. An internal continuation/termination review followed that asked if the mission would be able to overcome its issues to successfully launch in 2023.

NASA has now announced its decision to take the Psyche mission forward and target a launch no earlier than October 10, 2023.

Psyche is potentially a much bigger deal than the Moon or Mars.

VIDEO: Is China’s GDP Overstated By 60%? “I’ve long thought that, based on the fragmentary evidence we have (the huge debt load, the ghost cities, the known mismanagement and calculation problem of planned communist economies, etc.), the size of China’s economy is overstated by 40%. Now, according to the measurements of one pretty good proxy for economic activity, it appears that I was too trusting and optimistic about the size of China’s economy, in that it’s probably overstated by 60%.”

If you don’t have the time or inclination to watch a video, Lawrence Person has done his usual great job of breaking out the bullet points.

DON’T GET COCKY: Black Voters Are Shifting Right and the Left Is Losing It.

Let’s start with the insulting. MSNBC host Tiffany Cross slammed the Republican National Committee’s slate of “diverse” Republican congressional candidates, saying “faces of color do not always equate to voices of color.” She then tokenized minority Republicans, including those currently serving in Congress such as Senators Ted Cruz, Tim Scott, and Marco Rubio, and Representatives Byron Donalds, Mayra Flores, Nicole Malliotakis, Burgess Owens, and others, adding that they are “the political equivalent of ‘some of my best friends are Black.'”

Liberal elites often dismiss conservative minority candidates to avoid real debate. Hosts like Cross, elected officials, and political pundits don’t want minority voters to know that there are good reasons to consider non-liberal candidates, especially those of the same race. It undercuts the narrative that Democrats are the party of inclusivity. Increasingly, the criticism that Republicans don’t reach out to communities of color is proving as false as the belief that conservative values don’t resonate with minorities.

If Democrats were the party of inclusivity, they wouldn’t require minorities to toe the line on ideological purity.

MICHAEL SHELLENBERGER: Infantilization Of The Apocalypse.

The activists who keep degrading precious works of art, and themselves, claim to be concerned about food and energy supplies, but in opposing oil, gas and fertilizer production they are actively reducing both. Over the last several months, I have described the demands of climate activists as fanatical and pointed to a large body of evidence suggesting that nihilism, narcissism, and feelings of personal inadequacy are the primary motives.

But nihilism, narcissism, and personal inadequacy alone do not explain why climate activists have chosen temper tantrum tactics. After all, the greatest protest movements of all time engaged in far more grown-up and dignified tactics. Think of the Salt March led by Gandhi, the Montgomery Bus Boycott led by Martin Luther King, and the anti-whaling protests of Greenpeace.

Where protesters in the past asked to be treated like adults, climate protesters today demand to be treated like children. Civil rights activists in the 1950s sat at lunch counters and demanded to be treated like full adults. Notably, it was racist counterprotesters who poured milkshakes over them. Today, it’s the protesters who are spilling milk and throwing food.

Why is that, exactly? Why have Left-wing activists regressed in their tactics?

When you don’t have facts or reason on your side, don’t care to learn the facts and can’t be bothered to reason — what’s left?
