I AUTOMATICALLY WRITE DOWN ANYONE WITH PRONOUNS IN THEIR BIO OR EMAIL: David Mastio: She/her, He/him: Please keep your obvious pronouns out of my emails. “I think people in professions who want to be trusted by all comers should recognize that many on the conservative half of the political spectrum view the superfluous use of pronouns as the equivalent of putting a liberal political bumper sticker in your every email. Count me among them.”

A MESSAGE MUST BE SENT:

SETH BARRETT TILLMAN: A Critique of John Yoo on Ex parte Merryman. “Yoo tells us that Lincoln defied a judicial order in Merryman. But Taney issued three orders in Merryman. Which among the three Taney-issued Merryman orders does Yoo believe Lincoln defied? Yoo does not say. That is a tell. Nor does Yoo, in any readily identifiable way, explain what action or inaction by Lincoln constituted defiance. And that is a tell too.”

Right now they’re cool, but a niche product. In a few years, with a new generation of batteries, they may be a plausible replacement for internal combustion cars. Right now they’re not. If you want something electric but generally useful, a plug-in hybrid is the way to go since it lets you putter around town on electricity but make long drives without worry about charging.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE:

TECHNOLOGY MARCHES ON: First Look: The Return of the Franklin Armory Reformation. A unique take on a firearm is once again available for sale. “Franklin Armory is resuming production and sales of its Reformation firearm. Based on the ruling issued last month in its prevailing lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the company will begin shipping a variety of Reformation model configurations to dealers for sale to consumers. The Reformation features Franklin Armory’s patented straight-cut land-and-groove design and is classified as neither a rifle nor a shotgun. Rather, Reformation is simply a “firearm” that is regulated only by the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968. Since Reformation is not a National Firearms Act (NFA) firearm, no tax stamp is required. FFLs can now transfer Reformation as a GCA-only firearm just like other similarly classified firearms, including the Mossberg Shockwave, Remington Tac-14 and Franklin Armory’s own XO-26. Both 7.5-inch and 11.5-inch barrel length versions of the Reformation are now available for purchase through Franklin Armory’s dealer network in most US states.”
