IS ANYBODY BUYING HER FLIP-FLOPS? Harris Tiptoes Away From Electric Vehicle Stance as Trump Seizes an Opening in Michigan.

Harris’s campaign, in the weeks after the vice president became the party’s nominee, said she doesn’t support an EV mandate. It pointed to her casting of the tiebreaking vote for the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which provided subsidies and tax credits for EVs and created clean energy jobs in the state. Her supporters note that Trump risks alienating workers whose livelihoods depend on EVs.

Harris, however, did support a mandate five years ago when she first ran for president, reflecting the politics of her home state of California, which has a waiver to the Clean Air Act and has routinely pushed the federal government to enact more stringent rules. In the Senate, Harris co-sponsored legislation in May 2019 that would have created a federal standard demanding 50% of new vehicle sales be zero-emission in 2030 with the requirements ramping up to 100% by 2040.

TO BE FAIR, I WAS KINDA EXPECTING AN EARTH-SHATTERING KABOOM HERE: BREAKING: Israel Takes Out Hezbollah Headquarters. “The strike took place shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke at the UN General Assembly in New York City.”

SOD OFF SWAMPIES: Fresh attack on Van Gogh’s Sunflowers after Just Stop Oil activists jailed.

The National Gallery said the three activists had been arrested and the paintings remain unharmed after the incident at 2.30pm.

A statement said: “The paintings were removed from display and examined by a conservator and are unharmed. We are aiming to reopen the exhibition as soon as possible.”

In a video on social media, one protester said: “Future generations will regard these prisoners of conscience to be on the right side of history.”

Holland and Plummer, both 22, were found guilty of criminal damage at Southwark Crown Court in July.

During their trial, it was heard the activists, who denied damaging the painting, caused as much as £10,000 worth of damage to the frame, which prosecutors said was “a piece of art in itself”.

The protesters, wearing Just Stop Oil T-shirts, threw two tins of Heinz tomato soup over the 1888 work in October 2022, before kneeling down in front of the painting and gluing their hands to the wall beneath it.

Visitors were escorted out by security, who then shut the doors to the room containing the painting.

Raj Chada, defending Holland, said the women “did check” that the painting was protected by a glass cover before throwing the soup.

Plummer, representing herself, told the hearing: “My choice today is to accept whatever sentence I receive with a smile.

HER NEW, GUN-LOVING POSE IS JUST THAT, A POSE: Unearthed Post-Heller Video Reveals the Real Kamala Harris. “Notice how this Kamala Harris bears little resemblance to the person we’re seeing now on the campaign trail. She spoke off the cuff, without a teleprompter, and was far more articulate and self-assured than anything she displays now. There was none of the word salad she’s now known for. That’s likely because that was the real Kamala Harris. She was expressing her true opinions on a subject about which she had actually thought. She’s wasn’t trying to pretend to be something she isn’t as she now does daily.”

CALIFORNIA: Female Inmate’s Parole Revoked After Objecting To A Law That Allows Men To Take Over Women’s Prisons.

Quinn endured an uncomfortable invasion of her privacy on two occasions by a male inmate identifying as a transgender woman. In response, she filed a grievance against SB 132 – the Transgender Respect, Agency, and Dignity Act. This California law passed in 2020 allows fully intact men to be housed in female-only prisons by simply declaring a non-male gender.

Applying the situational skills taught by prison instructors and self-help groups when in alarming or dangerous circumstances, Cathleen Quinn filed a report on the male who carried out the inappropriate bathroom behavior. After filing this grievance, Quinn was hit with a wrongful verdict of “institutional misconduct,” ultimately causing her to lose her chance to return home. She was just three weeks away from parole when the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation took away her parole date, leaving her behind bars for another five years.

INCOMPETENCE, OR POLITICAL BIAS? WHY NOT BOTH? A Secret Service Story.

Tim Walz did show up, a little later, accompanied by the Secret Service. Howe observed that once they arrived, the Secret Service agents began wanding those who entered the church. But they never did anything about the 75 to 100 who were already inside the church when they showed up. No effort whatsoever was made to assure security with respect to those people.

This was particularly striking to Senator Howe because he was carrying at the time. Given the location, it is likely that others who attended the funeral, and were already inside the church when the Secret Service arrived, were also armed.

This is the kind of absurd failure of security that typified the Secret Service’s actions in Butler, Pennsylvania: the most obvious security precautions were not taken. This time, the protectee was a Democrat.

Regardless, the Secret Service should be stripped of its protective responsibilities and replaced by somebody else. Maybe Junior ROTC.

GOODY: FCC Opens Up More Spectrum for Starlink, Low-Earth Orbiting Satellites.

On Thursday, the FCC unanimously voted to open 1,300 megahertz of spectrum in the 17.3 to 17.8GHz bands to non-geostationary satellites, which would include Starlink satellites that operate closer to Earth.

The goal is to foster competition and expand “the ability of satellite operators to deploy advanced services, including high-speed internet access to unserved and underserved areas,” the FCC says. The order specifically enables non-geostationary satellites to harness the 17GHz bands for downlinking purposes or to send data from space down to Earth. The spectrum would also be shared with higher-orbiting geostationary satellites, which got access in 2022.

So it’s possible the new rules could lead to a significant download speed increase for Starlink. During the vote, FCC staff explained the order will allow both stationary and in-motion devices to receive signals from satellites using the 17GHz spectrum. But it sounds like companies will first need to receive a license from the FCC.

SpaceX and Amazon’s Project Kuiper have been among the companies in support of freeing up the spectrum.

In the two-plus years I’ve had Starlink, download speeds have crept up from about 100 Mbps to 230-250. Latency is low enough that my teenage sons have never complained about lag on their PlayStation online games. Honestly, 100 Mbps met the needs of my very online family of four.

So I’m not sure what I’d do with even more speed but — bring it on!

EXCLUSIVE: How $1M From China-linked Groups Oiled New York Politics.

Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) once declared a “President An Quanzhong Day” in her congressional district to honor the China-born businessman’s work for his Chinese hometown association in New York—while her campaign took thousands of dollars in donations from An.

Today An and his daughter—a green card holder and a U.S. citizen, respectively, at the time of their arrest—are among seven people facing charges of acting as foreign agents for allegedly colluding with Chinese officials to try to force a U.S. resident back to China against his will.

Another prolific donor to New York politicians was U.S. citizen Lu Jianwang, one of two men arrested for allegedly hosting a clandestine Chinese police station in Manhattan. Meng, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul all got thousands of dollars in donations from Lu and his brother.

A months-long Newsweek investigation has uncovered donations to leading New York politicians by dozens of U.S.-based community groups and their leaders with close ties to the United Front Work Department or to a wider “united front system” operated globally by the Chinese Communist Party. The department reports directly to the Central Committee of the CCP. The donations stretch back decades; recipients have included former New York senator and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton—and Meng’s campaigns received over $270,000 from such groups and their leaders since 2006, Newsweek’s review shows.

Are there any Democrats not in thrall to China?

HILLEL NEUER:

I just took the floor now at the United Nations Human Rights Council:

Mr. President,

Today I come before the United Nations, to address a stark reality: our moral compass is faltering.

The West, once a bastion of justice, now hesitates when good triumphs over evil.

Nowhere is this clearer than in the response to Israel’s recent actions against Hezbollah, a terror group that has wreaked havoc on civilians for decades. Ask the Syrians — they will tell you.

And since October 8th, Hezbollah fired 9,000 missiles at the people of Israel, expelling 70,000 from their homes.

Israel, a small nation of 9 million, has taken a stand against barbarism. Its young soldiers are on the front lines in a battle that once would have united Western coalitions. Yet today, much of the West fails to support Israel in its existential fight against groups like Hezbollah and Hamas—both backed by Tehran, which tramples its own people, and races toward a nuclear bomb.

No less alarming is the West’s response. In Washington, we hear calls to avoid “escalation,” while in Europe, the UK’s David Lammy just said climate change is a greater threat than terrorism. Incredibly, some have turned against Israel entirely, condemning its efforts to defend itself.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a battle over land; it is a battle of civilization against tyranny. Hezbollah, armed with 150,000 missiles aimed at civilians, must be stopped. To criminalize Israel’s right to self-defense, while ignoring the atrocities of its enemies, is a grave injustice.

We must stand with Israel. We must stand for democracy, for the rule of law, and for the right of every nation to protect its people from terror.

I thank you.

No, thank you for saying what needed saying.

GOING OUT, NOT WITH A BANG, BUT WITH A WHIMPER: What Biden’s Latest Anti-Gun Executive Orders Might Mean.

Earlier this week, it was announced that President Joe Biden would be putting forward more executive orders on guns. Considering his history on guns and executive orders, absolutely nothing seemed off the table.

But it was really just an announcement about an announcement. It was light on details.

Well, now we know what’s up, and on the surface, it looks like no big deal. It’s when you consider the implications that things get concerning.

Details at the link.

‘PREFERRED PRONOUNS’ AND REALITY: There is a move afoot in certain evangelical quarters to convince Christians that they should bow to the demands of Transgenderism and use preferred pronouns.

But as the latest “What Would You Say?” video from the Colson Center on HillFaith makes clear, what is really being demanded is the obliteration of words as describers of reality and their being reduced to little more than expressions of unreal feelings.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: However Sincere, Mark Zuckerberg’s Mea Culpa Moment Is a Bit Late. “If the Dems hadn’t revealed themselves to be a bunch of raging anti-Semites after October 7, 2023, would Zuckerberg ever have felt bad about being a Soviet-style propagandist in 2020? I have my doubts.”
