EVERYTHING IS GOING SWIMMINGLY: The average age of U.S. homebuyers jumps to 56—homes are ‘wildly unaffordable’ for young people, real estate expert says.
The average age of homebuyers is now 56, up from 49 in 2023, according to the National Association of Realtors’ annual state-of-the-market report released Monday. That’s a historic high, up from an average age in the low-to-mid 40s in the early 2010s.
The median age of first-time buyers also rose from 35 to 38, while the share of first-timers dropped from 32% to 24% of all buyers for the year ending July 2024. That marks the lowest percentage since NAR started tracking the metric in 1981.
“In my two decades in the mortgage business, I’ve never seen a more difficult time for millennials to purchase a home,” says Bob Driscoll, senior vice president and director of residential lending at Massachusetts-based bank Rockland Trust.
That’s largely due to rising homeownership costs, he says. The median U.S. home price is now $435,000, per NAR — up 39% since 2020 — while the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate has more than doubled to over 6% in that time.
That 39% increase doesn’t include skyrocketing insurance costs or property taxes.

DAVID MARCUS: A comedy legend trashes his rep for cheap Democrat propaganda.
Back on Oct. 1, [Saturday Night Live creator/producer Lorne] Michaels told The Hollywood Reporter that neither Harris nor her opponent Donald Trump would appear on the show, a statement which turned out to have all the honesty of Jon Lovitz saying, “Yeah, that’s the ticket.”
Suddenly, with three days left before the election, Michaels decided that his comedy show, one of the few things all Americans still share, would become a full-blown arm of the Harris campaign.
Live from New York….It’s Democrat Propaganda!
I’d be very curious to know exactly how this happened. Did Michaels have a change of heart and reach out to Harris? Or, as seems more likely, did a panicked Harris campaign beg for her star turn on the weekly broadcast?
This is the same Kamala Harris who couldn’t be bothered to attend the Al Smith dinner at the invitation of Cardinal Timothy Dolan because her schedule was too tight. Suddenly, 72 hours before the election, she cancels a rally in Michigan to appear live at the home of Father Guido Sarducci?
Michaels broke a real and serious trust here, part of what makes comedy as social commentary work. It’s something SNL has often strived at: fairness and the idea that all sides are open to ridicule. Such a blatant display of partisanship destroys that.
This is why woke comedy doesn’t work. In the place of the edgy and honest skewering of society, it instead is a laundry list of pseudo-religious shibboleths wearing a shabby comic costume.
The audience isn’t laughing at the joke, but at the stupidity of those they disagree with.
It is also worth noting that SNL has produced some of the most notable conservatives in Hollywood, including Dennis Miller, Rob Schneider, and Victoria Jackson.
None of whom publicly broadcast they were conservatives until long after they left the show, as is the case with most open conservatives working in Hollywood who wait until their careers are well established before announcing they lean anywhere to the right of Gorbachev.
And while its obvious whom Lorne was endorsing in this election, Kamala could have done Rogan as well, and likely cost Trump his endorsement in the process.
But as Roger Simon writes, celebrities in general were the “Big Losers of Election 2024:” “Am I the only one who has had enough of so-called ‘celebrities’ to last a lifetime or six? I have begun to think of them as a form of pollution. We are constantly bombarded with their views on everything that are almost never of the slightest depth or value.”
But Hollywood is the Democrats’ base in the 21st century, and it’s important for politicians to service their constituents, which sadly means we will likely be seeing their capped teeth and botoxed faces in campaign ads for years to come.

MISTER, WE COULD GET A KAM LIKE HERBERT HOOVER AGAIN: Trump warns of depression if Harris wins.
Former President Donald Trump on Saturday ripped Vice President Kamala Harris over this week’s poor jobs numbers, warning if he’s not elected the country will collapse economically.
Mr. Trump cited to his supporters at a rally in Gastonia, North Carolina, the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ October report of only 12,000 additional jobs and compared the current economic environment to President Herbert Hoover’s Depression.
“It’s usually like 200,000 or 250,000. Sometimes you have 300,000 or 400,000, but 12,000 jobs? I never heard that before.
“We lost nearly 30,000 private sector jobs. Think of that. And the jobs created were mostly government jobs. That’s easy. You just … hire 100,000 people this month.”
Mr. Trump called for a different direction, saying, “We want private jobs. … Nearly 50,000 manufacturing jobs were lost in a single month. I’ve never heard of these numbers.”
He later said, “I didn’t know Joe Biden is Herbert Hoover. I always said I would hate to be Herbert Hoover. This is like 1929 — the Great Depression. These are Depression-type numbers.”
Not surprisingly, the DNC-MSM has absolutely buried the absolutely anemic jobs numbers, it’s simply an extension of their turning a mild recession in 1992 into “the worst economy in 50 years,” while hiding its pre-election recovery, to get their man across the finish line.
More Trump:
Mr. Trump put much of the blame on Ms. Harris’ open border that’s let illegal immigrants flow in to take jobs from American citizens.
“One hundred percent of the job openings have gone to migrants, taking jobs from more than anybody else. And you haven’t seen the numbers. And I think your speakers should ask Washington for those numbers, because they’re really bad,” he said.
“They’ve taken the African American jobs … people that have done a great job. They’ve worked there for 20, 25 years, in different places and, to a lesser extent, Hispanic jobs. But large numbers of African Americans.”
Which is why: Who You Gonna Call? Trump Reveals Who He Will Phone on First Day in Office.
If he succeeds in winning back his old job, he will pick up the phone the first day and call… the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum. And it won’t just be to chit-chat and trade niceties—Trump said he will inform her that he will immediately impose massive tariffs unless she does her part to stop the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs into the U.S.
‘I haven’t met her, and I’m going to inform her on Day One or sooner, that if they don’t stop this onslaught of criminals and drugs coming into our country, I’m going to immediately impose a 25 percent tariff on everything they send into the United States of America,’ he said he would threaten.
The remark earned cheers from his rally crowd in North Carolina.
