EVERYTHING IS GOING SWIMMINGLY: United is the latest airline to confirm finding fake parts in plane engines, as supplier scandal grows. “The parts were discovered in a single engine on each of two aircraft, including one that was already undergoing routine maintenance, a spokesperson for United said Monday. The Chicago-based airline is replacing the engines before the planes are returned to flying, he said.”

HEALTH: ‘Body Positivity’ Is Literally Killing People, Science Finds.
What happened: The number of heart disease deaths in the United States linked to obesity was three times greater in 2020 than in 1999—even though overall heart disease deaths declined nearly 20 percent during that period—according to a new scientific study.
Obesity affects about 115 million Americans, including 42 percent of adults and 20 percent of children, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Why it matters: The alarming scientific findings coincide with the rise of the left-wing “body positivity” movement, which seeks to achieve social justice by celebrating fatness and attacking critics for pointing out the enormous health risks associated with obesity.
In recent years, liberal cultural elites have embraced obese female celebrities and lauded them as icons of feminist empowerment. Lifestyle magazines such as Cosmopolitan have featured obese women on the cover alongside science-denying taglines such as, “This is healthy!”
I’m starting to think it’s eugenics with a smiling face.

CHRIS QUEEN: We Can’t Compromise With the Democrats on Abortion. “In a lot of ways, the current election cycle has reminded me of 2016 all over again, with Trump as an unknown and unpredictable quantity. He has been so adamant in attacking Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) — arguably his biggest rival for the nomination — that he’s gone at the governor from the left.”

BIDEN’S ’70S SHOW: Striking unions impacting the economy at a level not seen in decades.
The UAW has taken a somewhat novel approach to this walkout, targeting just three factories and involving less than one-tenth of the workers at the Big Three automakers’ membership. However, if things heat up and it turns into an all-out strike, bringing into play the 146,000 union members at Ford, GM and Stellantis, that could change things.
In that case, Shepherdson sees a potential 1.7 percentage point quarterly hit to GDP at a time when many economists still fear the U.S. could tip into recession in the coming months. Auto production amounts to 2.9% of GDP.
A broader strike also would complicate policymaking for the Federal Reserve, which is trying to bring down inflation without tipping the economy into contraction.
Related: “In the name of ‘economic justice’ Fain would bankrupt the Big 3 again. Here’s the math: $136 * 32 hours per week * 52 weeks = $226,304. Note the UAW demand for a 32 hour workweek. At a 40-hour workweek, pay would be $282,880. Sorry guys, that will never fly.”
KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: ChiComs Probably Can’t Wait to Have a Go at Woke US Military. “This is reminiscent of what’s going on in public education, where the public knows what’s happening, but the people in charge keep insisting that our eyes aren’t seeing what they see. Again, American leftists seem to think that none of us have access to the internet.”
IT’S AN EASY QUESTION, AND THE ANSWER IS BECAUSE THE ESTABLISHMENT HAS WORKED TIRELESSLY TO MAKE THEM WORSE: Why Are Race Relations Worse? The press, academia, government — all the usual Establishment organs — peddle a nonstop narrative that this is a racist, hate-filled country, divided against itself, that can only survive with the stern guidance of . . . the Establishment. They say this not because it is true, but because they perceive it as useful.
I mean, their worst nightmare is Black Lives Matter activists and Trump Supporters finding common ground.
THIS ISN’T AMERICA: Hans Bader at Liberty Unyielding looks at the deepening rot of American academia, as exemplified by a UCLA civil right official who claims only white people can be racist, racism benefits only white people, and, sadly, much more of the same.
CANCEL CULTURE IS ALL IN YOUR MIND: YouTube suspends Russell Brand’s revenues from his channel.
Do the allegations against him have any merit? I don’t know, but I do know that someone with millions of followers who doesn’t follow the official narrative on a variety of issues is being effectively silenced before any guilt has been established.
NO SURPRISE HERE: Less than a third of Americans surveyed support President Joe Biden’s $6 billion ransom payment to the world’s biggest sponsor of international terrorism, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

CAREER GOAL OF THE MOMENT: The ‘Lazy-Girl Job’ Is In Right Now. Here’s Why. Rather than lean in, young workers say they want jobs that can be done from home, come with a cool boss and end at 5 p.m. sharp.
Some people would call Victoria Bilodeau’s decision to work as a freelance digital marketer a move to gain work-life balance. She calls it a “lazy-girl job.”
Bilodeau, 23 years old, says she used to work 10-hour days as an environmental technician, helping clean up low-level radioactive dirt for $26 an hour. Now, she logs about three hours a day promoting makeup and skin-care products online. She earns less than she used to, but in her newly abundant free time, she exercises, meditates and plays with her cats, Jinx and Fang. Living with her boyfriend in Belleville, Ontario, helps defray expenses.
“I really do have such a chill life in comparison to what it was,” she says.
Bilodeau and scores of other women online are bragging about their work setup using the hashtag #lazygirljob. To fans, the ideal lazy-girl job is one that can be done from home, comes with a chill boss, ends at 5 p.m. sharp and earns between $60,000 and $80,000 a year—enough to afford the basic comforts of young-adult life, yet not enough to feel compelled to work overtime. Veterans of such jobs say roles such as “digital marketing associate,” “customer-success manager” and “office administrator” are good bets for achieving the lazy-girl lifestyle.
Also, it’s unfair if women get paid less than men. But if you want to see real workplace hustle, check out the “Digital Content Creators.” Those women leave everything on the floor.
Meanwhile, the Insta-Daughter comments: “This girl was way more useful cleaning up the radioactive dirt.”

THE HIGH PRICE OF STUPID DECISIONS: Russia already spent over US$167 billion on war against Ukraine.
The largest items of expenditure: ensuring military operations (US$51.3 billion), salaries of the servicemen (US$35.1 billion), compensation to the families of the dead (US$25.6 billion) and wounded (US$21 billion) and the cost of destroyed equipment (US$34 billion).
After the rapid fall of the ruble, the “cost” of the Russian soldier for the budget of the Russian Federation decreased significantly. If for 2022 the total payments per one serviceman were about US$200 per day, now it is about US$120 per day.
Also, with the fall of the ruble, the cost of compensation to the military in US dollars decreased significantly. If at the rate of 60 rubles/$ the cost of compensation to the family of the deceased in the Russian Federation was about US$110,000, now it is only about US$65,000. The amount of compensation to the wounded, respectively, decreased from US$45,000 to US$27,000.
However, the level of Russian losses in recent months has remained at a significantly higher level than last year, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Accordingly, Russia is forced to spend more on compensation to the families.
Ouch.
