FLORIDA MAN FRIDAY: Whip It, Whip It Good. “This week’s Florida Man Friday features the world’s worst teddy bear salesman, Spider-Man’s life of crime, and a true story of war zone heroism.”

CRISIS BY DESIGN: Head of TSA Makes Stunning Admission on Illegal Immigrants Using Arrest Warrants As IDs. “Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) pressed the head of the Transportation Security Administration about the number of immigrants released by Border Patrol who have used arrest warrants as a form of ID to board airplanes. TSA Administrator David Pekoske said under 1,000 people had used arrest warrants or deportation orders in order to travel.”

EVERYTHING IS GOING SWIMMINGLY: China’s Top Chipmaker Achieves Breakthrough Despite US Curbs. “The Shanghai-based manufacturer is shipping Bitcoin-mining semiconductors built using 7-nanometer technology, industry watcher TechInsights wrote in a blog post on Tuesday. That’s well ahead of SMIC’s established 14nm technology, a measure of fabrication complexity in which narrower transistor widths help produce faster and more efficient chips. Since late 2020, the US has barred the unlicensed sale to the Chinese firm of equipment that can be used to fabricate semiconductors of 10nm and beyond, infuriating Beijing.”

THIS IS CNN: “It is self-indulgent to insist on chilly temperatures in the middle of summer and rooms at t-shirt warmth in winter. The donning of sweaters indoors when it’s cold outside, not because the AC is cranked up so high, is surely a habit one can adapt to. ”

You know what else is self-indulgent? Air-conditioned server farms. Let us know when you switch them off, CNN.

In both cases, as Glenn has written, why not start with a pilot program first? Ban A/C for DC! “We won two world wars without air conditioning our federal employees. Nothing in their performance over the last 50 or 60 years suggests that A/C has improved things. Besides, The Washington Post informs us that A/C is sexist, and that Europeans think it’s stupid.”

WELL: U.S. considers giving Warthog warplanes to Ukraine and training its pilots. “U.S. Air Force leaders have raised the possibility of training Ukrainian pilots in the United States and giving Ukraine the American fleet of A-10 Warthog ground-attack planes — an idea that could solve a problem for both countries.”

Is this just an Air Force ploy to get rid of the A-10? Yes, yes it is: “And the Air Force has for years wanted to get rid of the A-10s. That would free up maintenance money for new planes that can be used for multiple purposes, and would be more effective in a possible conflict with China. But Congress has blocked every attempt to retire the A-10.”

I suspect that the A-10s, which are designed specifically to stop Russian (Soviet) tanks, would do a good job here, though you’d need SAM suppression too, probably. But I also suspect that’s not why the Air Firce is floating this.

WATCH: GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Lee Zeldin Attacked by Man With Knife.

UPDATE (FROM GLENN): Apparently, not a knife as originally reported: “The alleged weapon used in the attack was a “plastic key chain” that is designed for two fingers, resembling the image of a cat’s face, and is intended to be used for self-defense, Monroe County sheriff’s deputy Brendan Hurley said.” Thanks to Eugene Volokh for this update.

GOODER AND HARDER, NEW YORK: Man Accused of Attack on GOP Rep. Zeldin Immediately Released after Being Charged with Felony. “The attacker walked free shortly after Zeldin predicted he would ‘likely be instantly released.’ ‘His words as he tried to stab me a few hours ago were ‘you’re done’, but several attendees, including @EspositoforNY, quickly jumped into action & tackled the guy,’ Zeldin wrote in a tweet. ‘Law enforcement was on the scene within minutes. The attacker will likely be instantly released under NY’s laws.’”

UPDATE: “The State of New York immediately releasing [Zeldin’s] attacker with no-cash bail is the best argument for electing Lee Zeldin that Lee Zeldin could have made,” Larry O’Connor tweets.

(Updated and bumped.)

I THOUGHT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO TRUST THE SCIENCE: Amid flood of Alzheimer’s research, questionable conduct persists. “A probe by a prestigious science journal, published Thursday, raises questions about the integrity of some Alzheimer’s disease research, including scientific evidence that helped launch an investigational drug into large, ongoing clinical trials.”

IT’S PATHETIC THAT THIS COUNTS AS A WIN, BUT A WIN IS STILL A WIN: Big Court Win For Parents’ Right To Attend And Speak Out At School Board Meetings. “The decision gives much of the background, including the details of several school board meetings at which McBreairty challenged school policies. leading the school board to issue a warning letter to McBreairty. At later meetings, he continued to challenge Board members. In none of these school board meetings was McBreairty alleged to have commited any threat or any conduct requiring law enforcement intervention, until the Board barred him and police prevented him from entering a School Board meeting. . . . This is a big win for parents. School Boards don’t like criticism, and have allies in the powerful teachers unions, the National Association of School Boards, and the federal DOJ.”
