KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Biden’s Disinformation Commies Have a DeSantis Problem. “What’s interesting about this is that the Democrats have a dismal track record when going head-to-head with DeSantis. If Biden’s Truth Nazi effort is going to be DOA or short-lived, who better than DeSantis to help facilitate that?”

MICHAEL WALSH: At last, a hill to die on. “So now the mask has dropped and, for the first time, the American people can see the modern Left in all its hateful, unadorned, vituperative, spiteful glory. Case in point: the announcement last week that the Department of Homeland Security—one of the excrescences of the Bush administration, cobbled together in its panic over 9/11—has created the ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ in order to combat what it has, via its hitherto little-known Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, already dubbed ‘mis-, dis-, and mal-information.’ Otherwise known as alternative points of view, but shut up, citizen. “

ICYMI: THEY LIE TO DIVIDE PEOPLE:

I REMEMBER WHEN KAMALA HARRIS TOLD THE EXACT SAME LIE USING THE EXACT SAME WORDS: Mayorkas’ message to migrants remains: ‘Do not come.’

Despite promising during his campaign that he would end Title 42 — a deportation policy invoked by then-President Donald Trump designed to stop the spread of Covid-19 through restrictions on immigration — President Joe Biden has kept the policy in place since taking office. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced in early April that it would end the policy May 23, which has been used to expel more than 1 million migrants at the southern border.

The decision has led to a revolt from Democrats, who fear a summer surge of migrants at the border if the policy is revoked. The move has also provided ammo for Republicans, who are weaponizing the topic ahead of the midterm elections. Multiple states have sued to block the end of the policy.

DHS officials have said they’re planning for the possibility of 18,000 border apprehensions per day if Title 42 is lifted — compared to the current number of about 7,000 per day.

Illegal immigrants understand that Mayorkas’ mouth says “no” but Biden’s policies say “yes.”

SO I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE CHEAP FOODS THAT PEOPLE USED TO EAT BUT DON’T EAT NOW that might come back because of rising food prices. Then I saw this: Depression-Era foods that are weirdly making a comeback.

Meanwhile, I notice that a lot of mid-price restaurants in my area are adding jazzed-up hot dogs to their menus, so that they have something under ten bucks. Back next, fried baloney sandwiches?

YOU DON’T SAY: Americans are showing inflation fatigue, and some companies see a breaking point.

Robust consumer spending has powered the U.S. economy through much of the pandemic, as households were helped by COVID-related government stimulus programs, rising wages and a rebound in the U.S. job market that has pushed the unemployment rate down near pre-pandemic levels.

Companies that made everything from baby wipes to washing machines were able to raise prices without denting demand much. Now, some executives and analysts say that Americans’ buying power is being squeezed by inflation, which in March hit the highest annual rate since 1981. Grocers and other food and staples sellers, for instance, say shoppers have increasingly been seeking discounted products and lower-cost brands.

“U.S. consumer confidence has been shaken by rampant inflation and geopolitical uncertainty in recent months,” Tempur Sealy Chief Executive Scott Thompson told analysts Thursday.

We keep getting told things like that, but are consumers really thinking about Ukraine when they’re worrying about the price of wipes for their babies?

ANALYSIS: TRUE. In a world gone mad, elites keep peddling untruths. “Why does the world seem so mad right now? There are two reasons. The first is the injection of implausible claims into our society. The second is the speed and volume at which they come: mainly thanks to social media.”

A DAY LATE BUT NO LESS SERIOUS A WARNING: I meant to link this post by Jeff Dunetz at The Lid yesterday, May 1, aka “May Day,” but unaccountably didn’t. So here it is today, marking the rotten fruit of the deadliest political movement in human history:

“That’s right, during the 20th-century, communism, and socialism murdered at least 94 million people. The reason for using both communism and socialism is they are both based on Karl Marx, are bloody, and many Communist regimes call themselves Socialist.

“Per the detailed analysis in “The Black Book of Communism: Crimes, Terror, Repression” (which should be required reading by every student in America), the number of deaths caused by Communism and Socialism was estimated at 94,360,000, broken down as follows:

  • USSR — 20 million
  • China — 65 million
  • Vietnam — 1 million
  • North Korea — 2 million
  • Cambodia — 2 million
  • Eastern Europe — 1 million
  • Latin America — 150,000
  • Africa — 1.7 million
  • Afghanistan — 1.5 million
  • Communist and Socialist movements, parties not in power — 10,000

“These estimates were made twenty-five years ago, in 1997. Imagine how some of the socialist and communist regimes have added to their total since (and some believe the estimates are too conservative). And let’s not forget the full name of Hitler’s Nazi party was; Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (National-Socialist German Workers’ Party).”

Tragically, there is more to this reality check, so click the link and read the rest of it.

While we’re here, I also highly recommend Robert Conquest’s three works on Soviet Communism, especially “Reflections on a Ravaged Century,” written at the dawn of the 21st century to look back at the accumulated horrors of the 20th and prophetically ahead at the ills likely to accompany the European Union (he was right on target).

FROM BECKY R. JONES:  Magic Abroad.  #CommissionEarned

Zoe O’Brien is very much looking forward to teaching summer school and tracking down fairy tales in Ireland. Her hopes for a quiet, academic summer are squashed when the dolphins tell her there’s something wrong in the Aran Islands, and her students are stalked by a… something before disappearing. There’s also the possibility that the slightly creepy guy at the train station is her father. So much for a quiet research-filled summer!

Now Zoe is in a race to find her students and help stop an invasion of Ireland by creatures out of myth and legend. The amount of magic in Ireland stuns Zoe. Are the ancient gods of Ireland returning to fight their enemies in the middle of her research? And what does the Morrígan want with Zoe?
