MEANWHILE, OVER AT VODKAPUNDIT: Oh, Noes! DOGE Audits Aren’t up to Government Snuff!

Of all the nonvital issues lefty rags like Wired would have me worry about, audits of government spending conducted by Elon Musk’s Department of Government not measuring up to Washington’s strict standards (cough, cough) is so far down the list that I ran out of witty metaphors.

Yet here we are.

Before I take you into that Wired report, let me share the latest news about what Musk calls Washington’s “Magic Money Computers” because it’s a story that the legacy dinosaur media seems to have somehow missed but that plays directly into Wired’s story.

Much more at the link.

And you can watch Musk’s full interview with Ted Cruz here.

COME SEE THE VIOLENCE INHERENT IN THE LEFTISM PART II: Today in Domestic Terrorism: an Online Tool for Torching Teslas. “If you’re a lefty just itching to do violence upon your fellow Americans who A) Have the gall to disagree with you politically, and B) Own a Tesla, today is your lucky day to pop open a browser tab and find a nearby victim.”

COME SEE THE VIOLENCE INHERENT IN THE LEFTISM: Teslas set on fire with Molotov cocktails and shot with gun in Las Vegas attack.

A suspect armed with a gun and Molotov cocktails launched a “targeted attack” against a Tesla location in Las Vegas early Tuesday, spray painting “resist,” firing several shots and torching multiple cars, authorities said.

Gunshots and flames erupted at the Tesla Collision Center, at 6260 Badura Ave., at 2:45 a.m. in the latest violent incident involving property associated with Elon Musk, the billionaire Tesla CEO and adviser to President Donald Trump.

“This was a targeted attack against a Tesla facility, ” LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren told reporters. “We do believe that it is isolated at this time. We do not believe there is further threat to the general public.”

Unless you drive a Tesla, I guess.

“NOT AN ‘ELECTION WEEK'”: CA law giving mail ballots a week after Election Day to arrive is illegal, lawsuit says.

“Federal law requires an Election Day – not an ‘Election Week,’” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in the same release. “California’s counting of ballots that arrive a full seven days after Election Day is unlawful, encourages fraud, and undermines voter confidence in election outcomes.”

The lawsuit is similar to others Judicial Watch has launched across the country, also challenging extended vote-by-mail receipt and counting deadlines.

In a lawsuit against a deadline extension law in Mississippi, Judicial Watch secured a ruling in their favor from the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which declared counting ballots received after Election Day in federal races violated federal law.

In Illinois, Judicial Watch challenged a vote-by-mail law, which forces election officials to count all mail-in ballots received up to two weeks after Election Day, even if the ballots don’t include a postmark proving they were mailed by Election Day, as otherwise required by law.

Judicial Watch, along with U.S. Rep. Michael Bost, R-Illinois, lost in the lower courts. However, they have appealed those rulings to the U.S. Supreme Court. The high court is currently awaiting a response brief from Illinois state officials defending the law. The court set a deadline of April 4 to receive the state of Illinois’ response.

In the meantime, Judicial Watch has partnered with Issa to open a third front in the fight to end the counting of vote-by-mail ballots that come in long after Election Day.

Representative democracy requires trust in the system, and California’s system (among others’) is untrustworthy.

CHANGE? Germany votes for historic boost to defence spending.

State government representatives in the upper house, the Bundesrat, still need to approve the moves – also by a two-thirds majority – before they officially become law. That vote is set for Friday.

Friedrich Merz, the man behind these plans and who is expected to soon be confirmed as Germany’s new chancellor, told the lower house during Tuesday’s debate that the country had “felt a false sense of security” for the past decade.

“The decision we are taking today… can be nothing less than the first major step towards a new European defence community,” he said, adding that it includes countries that are “not members of the European Union”.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the vote “excellent news”.

Speaking at a press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, she said the vote “sends a very clear message to Europe that Germany is determined to invest massively in defence”.

Frederiksen meanwhile called it “fantastic news for all Europeans”.

It will be fantastic news if the bill passes the upper house and Berlin actually follows through. Even then, there’s still Germany’s ongoing deindustrialization, birth dearth, and immigration crisis to deal with.

LOW COST? DID SOMETHING GO WRONG? BlueHalo’s FE-1 Low-Cost Surface-To-Air Missile Fired For First Time. “The successful live-fire demonstration of the FE-1 Controlled Test Vehicle (CTV) was only recently announced but took place from Jan. 16-18 this year, at Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona. It was conducted as part of the Next-Generation C-UAS Missile (NGCM) program, which aims to ramp up America’s munitions industrial base to meet rapidly evolving aerial threats, specifically drones.”

PRIVACY: Everything you say to your Echo will be sent to Amazon starting on March 28.

Since Amazon announced plans for a generative AI version of Alexa, we were concerned about user privacy. With Alexa+ rolling out to Amazon Echo devices in the coming weeks, we’re getting a clearer view of the privacy concessions people will have to make to maximize usage of the AI voice assistant and avoid bricking functionality of already-purchased devices.

In an email sent to customers today, Amazon said that Echo users will no longer be able to set their devices to process Alexa requests locally and, therefore, avoid sending voice recordings to Amazon’s cloud. Amazon apparently sent the email to users with “Do Not Send Voice Recordings” enabled on their Echo. Starting on March 28, recordings of every command spoken to the Alexa living in Echo speakers and smart displays will automatically be sent to Amazon and processed in the cloud.

Attempting to rationalize the change, Amazon’s email said: “As we continue to expand Alexa’s capabilities with generative AI features that rely on the processing power of Amazon’s secure cloud, we have decided to no longer support this feature.”

SPACE: Mars could have an ocean’s worth of water beneath its surface, seismic data suggest.

Persuasive new evidence supporting the possibility of liquid water deep underground on Mars has come to light in a new analysis of seismic data from NASA’s InSight lander.

In 2024, researchers proposed that the deep subsurface of the Red Planet, particularly between 7.1 and 12.4 miles (11.5 and 20 kilometers) down, is soaked in liquid water, a conclusion they base on the velocities of seismic waves detected during marsquakes.

Now, researchers Ikuo Katayama of Hiroshima University and Yuya Akamatsu of the Research Institute for Marine Geodynamics in Japan have found supporting evidence for this claim of liquid water deep inside Mars. “Many studies suggest the presence of water on ancient Mars billions of years ago,” said Katayama in a statement. “But our model indicates the presence of liquid water on present-day Mars.”

Potentially a very big deal.
