OPEN THREAD: Enjoy.

HMM. I ASSUME THIS IS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED, AS ONE DOES NOWADAYS: F.B.I. Seizes Eric Adams’s Phones as Campaign Investigation Intensifies. “F.B.I. agents seized Mayor Eric Adams’s electronic devices early this week in what appeared to be a dramatic escalation of a criminal inquiry into whether his 2021 campaign conspired with the Turkish government and others to funnel money into its coffers. The agents approached the mayor after an event in Manhattan on Monday evening and asked his security detail to step away, a person with knowledge of the matter said. They climbed into his S.U.V. with him and, pursuant to a court-authorized warrant, took his devices, the person said. . . . The surprise seizure of Mr. Adams’s devices was an extraordinary development and appeared to be the first direct instance of the campaign contribution investigation touching the mayor.”

WHERE WE ARE NOW:

THE NEW SPACE RACE: Bulgaria signs Artemis Accords. I’m delighted that this diplomatic offensive, which began under Obama, took off under Trump, and continues under Biden, has seen such consistent success. If only everything worked this well.

BRITISH HOME SECRETARY POINTS OUT THE LONDON’S METROPOLITAN POLICE PLAYING FAVORITES WITH SOME PROTESTERS: “Unfortunately, there is a perception that senior police officers play favourites when it comes to protesters. During Covid, why was it that lockdown objectors were given no quarter by public order police yet Black Lives Matters demonstrators were enabled, allowed to break rules and even greeted with officers taking the knee? Right-wing and nationalist protesters who engage in aggression are rightly met with a stern response yet pro-Palestinian mobs displaying almost identical behaviour are largely ignored, even when clearly breaking the law? I have spoken to serving and former police officers who have noted this double standard.”

Yes, we’ve all noticed, but now there will be a firestorm of anger at her for pointing it out. (Bumped.)

DON SURBER: Why They Hate Snow White.. “The story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a popular bedtime story for children. The fairy tale has been told since generations to teach children important values like love, kindness, friendship, helping each other, and refraining from vanity.”

RAHIMI MEENIE MINEY MO: Will Garland v. Range be the way to go? If I were the Court, I’d try to swap out Range for Rahimi to drop the domestic-violence baggage.

NCLA UPDATE: NCLA Encourages Fifth Circuit to Rein in Renegade SEC’s Unlawful Private Fund Regulation Effort. “The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently promulgated a rule that restricts—and in some cases prohibits—certain common contractual agreements between private investment funds and their investment advisers. The New Civil Liberties Alliance has filed an amici curiae brief in National Association of Private Fund Managers v. SEC, asking the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to set aside this unlawful rule, which exceeds SEC’s statutory authority and ignores Congress’ design. Securities law scholars Paul Mahoney, Adam Pritchard, and J.W. Verret joined NCLA’s brief in the case, which draws from comments some of them filed during SEC’s rulemaking process.”

ACADEMIA’S HOLLOW MEN AND WOMEN. “I think that in America today, we have a considerable number of people who get, maybe not all of the entire content of their lives, but much of the content of their lives delivered gratis, so to speak, by the public sphere, all the raw material for their deeper emotions. And I suspect that this phenomenon is stronger among the students described by the professor in his essay than in the American population at large.”

Plus: “It’s important to note that much of the current anti-Semitism, especially the kind seen on college campuses, is different from the traditional kind. While Jews were once disliked because they were too different from the overall society, they are now denounced because they exemplify things that the ‘progressives’ despise about their own societies.”
