PANAMA CANAL TO RAISE DAILY SHIP LIMIT FROM JANUARY AFTER IMPROVED DROUGHT CONDITIONS: “The Panama Canal said today that, for the benefit of its customers, it will raise the number of per day transits to 24 beginning in January under Advisory to Shipping No. A-54-2023. There are now 22 vessels that pass by every day — six Neopanamax plus 16 Panamax. This restriction is a reaction to the difficulties presented by Gatun Lake’s current conditions, which are abnormally low for this time of year because of the drought brought on by the El Niño phenomena.”

JIM TREACHER: Senate Aide Unusually Gay.
A point of clarification here: I’d be more surprised if Senate aides weren’t banging at work all day. I think it’s hilarious, and I reserve the right to make stupid jokes about it. I haven’t been this amused since Anthony Weiner went away.
But there’s also a serious point to be made here. This kid genuinely doesn’t think he did anything out of the ordinary, because for his whole life he’s been told how amazing he is. Of course it’s okay for this very special person to scream at Jews and rut like a dog at his workplace. He’s one of the good guys, so he can do whatever he wants.
It’s those mean ol’ conservatives who are the problem. They’re the bad guys. They don’t care about Trump banging porn stars, but they care about this? Etc., etc.
I’m sure this kid will land on his feet, or some other body part. He’s now a victim of “revenge porn” by those evil Republicans, just like Katie Hill and Susanna Gibson. So now the libs will turn him into the next Dylan Mulvaney. For a shameless exhibitionist like Aidan Maese-Czeropski, the sky’s the limit.
Related: The Politico story covering for Susanna Gibson is more embarrassing than anything she ever did.
Gibson’s defense of her choices is equally astonishing: “Choosing to share content, online or in whatever medium, with select people with the understanding that it will disappear and can only be seen by those present at the time — when we’re talking livestreaming, webcamming and Skype — that is a far cry from consenting for that content to be recorded and then broadly disseminated.” Cockburn was not aware of this, but is pleased to have been educated by someone who knows better.
Regarding nude images, Gibson tells Burns, “the moment that an image like that or a video like that gets put on the internet, it’s like lighting a fire in a dry forest. It spreads rapidly and extensively until it causes irreversible damage.” Cockburn agrees — and is not in the habit of taking nude photographs of his miserable soma. He might not therefore be the best person to ask, “is it different when you are the person posting said image on the internet? Deliberately? For profit? Rather than having a private image posted by accident, or hacked and posted without consent like Jennifer Lawrence, or stolen from a safe in your house like Pamela Anderson?” Someone should though!
Gibson is considering legal action against whoever made a copy of her livestreamed sex acts and posted them elsewhere on the internet. “I want the person who found and then disseminated illegal pornographic images of me — again, violating federal and state laws — they need to be held accountable,” she says.
Cockburn wishes Gibson luck in her search for the person responsible for her political downfall. Has she checked the mirror?
It’s unfortunate that the current incarnation of Saturday Night Live sees it as their mission to hide the majority of scandals involving Democrats, because a “Dukakis After Dark” style sketch featuring Gibson and Maese-Czeropski commiserating about their self-inflicted woes has the potential to make for great television. (Or at least it could have, starring their earlier funnier* cast members of the show.)

UNEXPECTEDLY: Biden ditches trade deal talks with Britain.
Joe Biden has shelved plans for a pact with Britain that could have paved the way for a full post-Brexit trade deal.
The US president has decided not to move forward with a “foundational” agreement prepared by the US Trade Representative’s Office, which would have included negotiations over 11 areas of trade and regulation, following opposition from his party in the Senate.
Senate Democrats argued that the agreement would not have provided sufficient protection for American workers, Politico reported.
The UK’s hopes for a free trade agreement (FTA) with the US date from before the Brexit referendum, and faced an early setback when Barack Obama told voters that Britain would go to “the back of the queue” for a deal if it left the EU.
But despite US support for an FTA in the early days of Donald Trump’s presidency in 2016, the chance of a deal has now fallen to “zero” under Mr Biden, the Government believes.
I wonder if Joe’s boss made the decision? Flashback to April of 2016: A British politician says Barack Obama is the most anti-British president ever.

NAOMI SCHAEFER RILEY: It’s time for a ‘broken windows’ policy for schools.
How did we get here? Daniel Buck, a former teacher and author of “What Is Wrong With Our Schools?” tells me that even schools that used to be strict about dress codes or tardiness have now let those rules go by the wayside.
Nor is it just bad public schools.
Even many of the so-called “no excuses” charter schools have decided to give students excuses.
Buck, who quit his job teaching at a private school, notes that rather than actual punishment, it’s common for students who “disrespect teachers” to simply return to the classrooms “after a stern talking to” or even just “a hug and a bag of chips.”
Administrators, explains Buck, often say they have “bigger fish to fry” than worrying about attendance.
But he adds, “if you don’t deal with small things, bigger fish come along.
You will get more cruelty and bullying.”
The standards for student behavior are set early and they influence how seriously children take authority later on.
Perhaps schools with broken windows policies, and better history departments might cut down or eliminate recent headlines such as this one: Shocking moment Jewish teacher is forced to hide in her classroom at a Queens high school as ‘radicalized’ students rampage through hallways while demanding she be fired for attending pro-Israel rally.
ROGER KIMBALL: ‘Liberty and Justice For All’ – A Tattered Cliche?
On Friday, The Wall Street Journal published an editorial whose slug got to the nub of the issue. “The special counsel,” it read, “tries to drag the Justices into his political timetable for the Jan. 6 trial of Donald Trump.” That’s it exactly. Smith wants the Court to decide now, today, so he can pursue his vendetta against Trump on the time table the election calendar has set. Most observers believe that the Court will be more circumspect. The writers of that editorial caution that “The wiser decision would have been to lay out the facts of what the special counsel found and let the voters decide. They chose to prosecute, and the damage has begun to unfold.”
I was talking to a friend about about Smith’s case. He responded “It sounds like the judiciary/prosecution is corruptly trying to interfere with an official proceeding, i.e., the election.” That’s pretty much what I think, too, though I don’t expect Jack Smith to be charged for the tort. Remember, there is one law for Donald Trump and his supporters. They can be harassed, prosecuted, and jailed. There is another law for the nomenklatura that does the harassing, prosecuting, and jailing.

RADICAL CHIC, THE TRUNALIMUNUMAPRZURE YEARS: ‘Historic’ Biden Judicial Nominee Sits on Board of Group Founded by Cop-Killing Domestic Terrorist.
President Joe Biden’s latest judicial nominee, whom the White House is hailing as “historic” due to his Muslim faith, serves on the advisory board of a left-wing group with extensive ties to convicted cop killers, the Washington Free Beacon has found.
Adeel Abdullah Mangi, whom Biden tapped to serve on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, is an advisory board member of Alliance of Families for Justice. The organization, which works to end “mass incarceration,” was formed in 2016 with Weather Underground member Kathy Boudin as a founding director. Boudin pleaded guilty to the murder of two police officers and a security guard during an armored truck robbery in 1981. The FBI named Weather Underground a domestic terrorist organization following a string of bombings and robberies in the 1970s and ‘80s.
The Alliance of Families for Justice, where Mangi has served since 2019, organized an event in 2021 to urge the release of six Black Panther and Black Liberation Army members serving life in prison for murdering police officers. The Alliance referred to the cop killers—including Black Panther members Mumia Abu-Jamal, H. Rap Brown, and others—as “freedom fighters” and claimed they were illegally targeted by the FBI.
The Weather Underground, you say?
Bill Ayers was a leader of the Weather Underground, a violent radical student group of the 1960s. His father, Thomas Ayers, was a prominent Chicago business and philanthropic leader who served as an adviser to Mayor Richard J. Daley, father of the current Chicago mayor. Although he is not apologetic about his terrorist past (and had the bad luck to be quoted as saying, in an interview that ran on Sept 11 2001, that “I don’t regret setting bombs. … I feel we didn’t do enough.”), Bill Ayers has been accepted back into the Chicago political community and has been an informal adviser to the current Mayor Daley on education reform.
But regardless of his cachet in the liberal circles of Chicago politics, presidential candidate Barack Obama has not been eager to explain his own relationship with Bill Ayers. Published reports from February 2008 gave a glimmer of their ties. In 1995 Ayers hosted a fund-raiser for Obama prior to Obama’s run for Alice Palmer’s seat in the state Senate; they both served on the board of the charitable Woods Fund of Chicago from 1999 to 2002; and Ayers donated $200 to Obama’s state Senate campaign. Other researchers and reporters (for example, Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun Times) noted a few joint panel appearances and a favorable review by Obama of a book by Bill Ayers.
Yet another reminder of who is behind the scenes in (P)resident Biden’s administration, pulling the strings, “serving as a third-term president in all but name.”

DISPATCHES FROM THE EDUCATION APOCALYPSE: Shock: Majority of Americans Aged 18-24 Think Israel ‘Should Be Ended,’ Given to Hamas and Palestinians.
If you haven’t been worried by the reactions of so many American students, professors, and university presidents over the Hamas terror attacks against Israel on October 7, then maybe you haven’t been paying attention.
Antisemitism has run rampant on many campuses, and when three top school heads appeared before Congress, they failed to condemn “protesters” who were harassing Jewish students, shouting “intifada revolution,” and calling for the extermination of the entire country.
But the news about the poison being spread in our system of higher education just keeps getting more disturbing as a new Harvard-Harris poll shows that an astonishing 51 percent of American youth aged 18-24 indicated support “For Israel to be ended and given to Hamas and the Palestinians.”
Astonishing.
Illustrating the huge opinion gap between different generations, only four percent of people over 65 agreed with wiping the entire country off the map.
To be fair, it’s not that shocking a development, when taken in tandem with this equally depressing statistic: 20% of young Americans believe Holocaust is a myth, poll finds.

¡NO PASARÁN!: “Lovely weather for killing Germans:” Today Marks the Beginning, 79 Years Ago, of the Greatest Battle in History Involving U.S. Troops.
On 16 December, 1944, Hitler launched his ‘last gamble’ in the snow-covered forests and gorges of the Ardennes. He believed he could split the Allies by driving all the way to Antwerp, then force the Canadians and the British out of the war. Although his generals were doubtful of success, younger officers and NCOs were desperate to believe that their homes and families could be saved from the vengeful Red Army approaching from the east. Many were exultant at the prospect of striking back.
The Ardennes offensive, with more than a million men involved, became the greatest battle of the war in western Europe. American troops, taken by surprise, found themselves fighting two panzer armies. Belgian civilians fled, justifiably afraid of German revenge. Panic spread even to Paris. While many American soldiers fled or surrendered, others held on heroically, creating breakwaters which slowed the German advance.
The harsh winter conditions and the savagery of the battle became comparable to the eastern front. And after massacres by the Waffen-SS, even American generals approved when their men shot down surrendering Germans. The Ardennes was the battle which finally broke the back of the Wehrmacht.

SEGREGATION NOW, SEGREGATION TOMORROW, SEGREGATION FOREVER! Boston City Hall roiled by email party invitation for ‘electeds of color’ sent to all.
A Wu administration official, on behalf of the mayor, mistakenly sent all Boston city councilors an email Tuesday inviting them to a holiday party that was meant exclusively for “electeds of color,” prompting an apology and mixed reactions.
Denise DosSantos, the mayor’s director of City Council relations, told the body’s “honorable members” that, “on behalf of Mayor Michelle Wu,” she was cordially inviting each of them “and a guest to the Electeds of Color Holiday Party on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Parkman House, 33 Beacon St.”
Approximately 15 minutes later, however, DosSantos sent out a follow-up email to city councilors, apologizing for the prior email, which was apparently only meant for those who were invited. The body includes seven white councilors and six of color.
“I wanted to apologize for my previous email regarding a Holiday Party for tomorrow,” DosSantos, a Cape Verdean Black woman, wrote. “I did send that to everyone by accident, and I apologize if my email may have offended or came across as so. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”

DISPATCHES FROM WEIMAR AMERICA: Senate Staffer Caught Filming Gay Sex Tape In Senate Hearing Room (GRAPHIC).
Leaked amateur pornography shows a congressional staffer having anal sex with an unknown man in the Senate hearing room, video obtained by the Daily Caller shows.
The alleged staffer can also be seen in a photo, naked on all fours, looking back at the camera on the table where Senators often sit to ask questions during a hearing. It appears to be unprotected sex.
A source identified the room to the Daily Caller as Senate room Hart 216- The Judiciary Room. The Caller blurred out his face because his identity has not been confirmed.
According to some reports, the staffer works for Senator Ben Cardin. If so, it’s been quite a week for the 80 year old Democrat from Maryland: ‘Free Palestine!’: Congressman Max Miller Confirms Identity Of Dem Staffer Who Confronted Him Over Israel.
Jewish Republican Ohio Rep. Max Miller confirmed with the Daily Caller the identity of the Democratic Congressional staffer who confronted him in the halls of the Cannon Office Building on Wednesday.
Miller confirmed with the Daily Caller that the staffer’s name is Aidan Maese-Czeropski. According to Maese-Czeropski’s LinkedIn profile, he serves as a legislative aide for Democratic Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin. Sources tipped off the Caller that the staffer, who confronted Miller during an interview with NBC News’ Ali Vitali and said “Free Palestine!,” served as an aide for Cardin.

Strapping young politicos, be advised—Maryland Democratic senator Ben Cardin’s office has an opening.
Cardin’s office on Saturday announced the firing of Aidan Maese-Czeropski, the legislative aide swept up in a gay sex tape scandal. Maese-Czeropski maintained a once-public Twitter account that featured pornographic photos and videos of himself—in one video, Maese-Czeropski appeared to engage in sodomy in a Senate hearing room. The Daily Caller posted that video Friday.
“Aidan Maese-Czeropski is no longer employed by the U.S. Senate,” Cardin’s office said in a statement. “We will have no further comment on this personnel matter.”

VOYAGER 1 IS IN SERIOUS TROUBLE, NASA SAYS:
Normally, the probe — which, oddly, was launched about a month after Voyager 2, making it the second of the two-craft mission to launch despite its numerical name order — sends its scientific readings about interstellar space and its engineering updates in what’s known as a “package” of easily-translatable binary code.
Over the past few months, however, the probe has been “stuck” transmitting repetitive patterns of ones and zeroes that are the binary equivalent of gobbledygook. While the Earth-bound Voyager team was able to target which instrument was behind the malfunction, they haven’t yet been able to adequately troubleshoot it back into working order.
“This past weekend the team tried to restart the FDS and return it to the state it was in before the issue began,” NASA said in the statement, “but the spacecraft still isn’t returning useable data.”
It may take the agency’s engineers “several weeks” to figure out how to fix the probe.
“Finding solutions to challenges the probes encounter often entails consulting original, decades-old documents written by engineers who didn’t anticipate the issues that are arising today,” NASA pointed out. “As a result, it takes time for the team to understand how a new command will affect the spacecraft’s operations in order to avoid unintended consequences.”
We all know that this is going to eventually end very badly:

A UNITER, NOT A DIVIDER! Trump ‘may turn off the internet’ if re-elected, former aide says.
One of Donald Trump‘s former staffers claims the former president may “turn off the internet” if he is re-elected.
Miles Taylor, Mr Trump’s former chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security, made the claim during an appearance on MSNBC.
Mr Taylor was asked what kind of damage Mr Trump could potentially do if he were re-elected to the Oval Office in 2024.
“The possibilities are almost limitless,” Mr Taylor said. “The biggest concerns for me are on the national security side. I think Americans still don’t understand the full extent of the president’s powers and things Donald Trump could do, bubble-wrapped in legalese, that would be damaging to the republic.”
He claimed that Mr Trump could “invoke powers we’ve never heard a President of the United States invoke” which include decisions to “potentially shut down companies or turn off the internet, or deploy the US military on US soil”.
“Turning off” the Internet? It’s an idea approved by its “inventor!” Al Gore calls social media algorithms ‘digital’ AR-15s.
Former Vice President Al Gore took aim at social media algorithms Tuesday, saying sites that are “dominated by algorithms” are the “digital equivalent of AR-15s.”
Gore, speaking at the Bloomberg Green at COP28 event, said spending too much time scrolling on social media could be dangerous and suggested algorithms be banned. Numerous lawmakers have raised concerns about the use of social media among children.
“If you have social media that is dominated by algorithms that pull people down these rabbit holes that are a bit like pitcher plants, these algorithms, they are the digital equivalent of AR-15s,” he said. “They ought to be banned, they really ought to be banned. It’s an abuse of the public forum.”
Finally, someone is heeding the Goracle! Or perhaps not, as former President Trump is being proactively blamed for everything that could wrong in the future, perhaps short of the heartbreak of psoriasis:
QUESTION ASKED: What Will Become of Cities?
Why not convert office spaces to domestic apartments? It’s not so easy. The buildings put up after the Second World War were made for air conditioning and had wide footprints without windows in a large swath of the space. That simply doesn’t work for apartments. Cutting a giant hole down the middle is technically possible but economically expensive, requiring the rents in the resulting properties to be in the luxury range.
The next phase will be the fiscal crisis. Dying business districts, declining population, empty office buildings all mean falling tax revenue. The budgets won’t be cut because of pension obligations and school funding. The next place to look is to the capital for bailouts and then of course the federal government. But those will only buy time and certainly won’t address the underlying problem.
What bugs me most about this is just how much it fits with the dream of Anthony Fauci as he and his co-author explained back in August of 2020. Writing months after lockdowns, with American cities on fire with protests, he wrote that we need “radical changes that may take decades to achieve: rebuilding the infrastructures of human existence, from cities to homes to workplaces, to water and sewer systems, to recreational and gatherings venues.”
If your view is that the real problem with infectious disease traces to “the neolithic revolution, 12,000 years ago,” as they claim, you are going to have a serious problem with cities. Recall that this is the guy who said we need to stop shaking hands, forever. The notion of a million people working and socializing together in a few square miles of space is something that would run contrary to the entire vision.
Klaus Schwab of the WEF, too, has an issue with large cities, too, of course, with constant complaints about urbanization and the imagined world in which large swaths of our lives are spent online rather than with friends.
So a tremendous downscaling of cities might have been part of the plan all along. You will notice that none of the cities on the chopping block seem to be offering a viable plan for saving themselves. They could dramatically cut taxes, deregulate childcare, open up more schooling options, turn police attention to petty crime and carjacking instead of traffic fines, and open up zoning. That’s not happening.
New York is going the opposite direction, having effectively banned AirBnB in the city. Why did the city council do this? Because too many renters with space found it more lucrative to offer short-term rentals and overnight stays rather than make long-term contracts for residents. This is a sneaky way of pillaging property owners, not exactly a good plan for attracting real estate investment.
All of this speaks to a much bigger problem, which is that the whole political system seems to be engaged in an amazing game of “Let’s pretend” despite the overwhelming evidence of the disaster that has befallen us. No serious efforts are underway to reverse the damage of pandemic lockdowns and vaccine mandates and segregation. This is partly because there has been zero accountability or even honest public debate about what governments around the country did from 2020-2022. We live amidst the carnage but justice seems farther off than ever.
And to think of the trends among leftist urbanists prior to 2020:

THE WEATHER CHANNEL IS ASKING QUESTIONS THAT NOBODY IS ASKING: Should I Stop Flying? It’s a Difficult Decision to Make.
Most of us can’t imagine not flying. But as airline emissions continue to adversely affect the climate, our writer deliberates why making the ethical choice is so hard—and why those who have done so are actually happier.
Four years ago, during a Zoom work meeting, a colleague who lives in London told me she’d decided to quit flying on airplanes. She simply couldn’t stomach the cost to the climate. Due to her decision, she said calmly, she would probably never visit the U.S. again. My heart skipped a beat.
Her choice seemed so extreme. She shared it with me casually in the context of conversation, without a trace of judgment or moralizing. Still, I felt shocked and inexplicably a little defensive—but also intrigued. At the time, I traveled by air as often as ten times a year for my work as a journalist and to see family members strewn about the country. I couldn’t imagine my life without flying.
But my colleague’s comment lodged in my mind as a beautiful and challenging seed. Over the next few years, it cracked through the concrete of what had been, until then, a completely unexamined belief in my inviolable entitlement to flying. When the pandemic arrived, grounding travelers and shrinking international air travel by 60 percent in 2020, I began to see that significantly reducing air travel—or even giving it up altogether—was absolutely possible.
Rare individuals have chosen not to fly for ethical reasons for decades, but in the years leading up to the pandemic, the smattering of outliers coalesced into a movement. It took root most quickly and deeply in Sweden, which in 2017 became the first country in the world to establish a legally binding carbon-neutrality target—a year before Greta Thunberg began protesting in front of its parliament*. In Swedish, the movement became known as flygskam, which translates to “flight shame,” a term commonly attributed to Swedish singer Staffan Lingberg, who gave up flying in 2017.
But the people who preach global warming as a religion the strongest aren’t even pledging to fly commercial, let alone switching to meetings via Zoom:
● Private Jets Flock To Dubai For COP 28: Event Set To Have Biggest Carbon Footprint In History.
● Sunak, Cameron and King Charles each take own private jets to travel to Cop28.
● “In 2022, U.S. government employees spent $2.8 billion on official travel, taking more than 2.8 million flights, 2.3 million vehicle rentals and 33,000 rail trips.”
To coin an Insta-paraphrase, maybe think about quitting flying when the people who tell you that global warming is a crisis start to act like it’s a crisis themselves?
* Thunberg has recently switched religions. So why take take flying advice from someone who’s now pro-Hamas?
IT’S SATIRE — OR IS IT? US vows evacuation of citizens from Gaza will be as flawless as Afghan evacuation.
THE LID: Why is #MeToo Covering for Hamas?
Their identity is critically important because their sexual assaults were not random, back-alley attacks. They were part and parcel of the terrorists’ goal of violently humiliating Jewish women, as Jewish women. The attackers were making an ideological statement on women’s bodies. Yet, from reading the two #MeToo International statements, a person who has not been closely following world events could come away thinking that the Israeli women may have been raped by Israeli men.
The updated #MeToo statement then proceeded into the realm of “everybody does it.” There have been “acts of gender-based violence” in “places like Israel, Palestine, Sudan, Congo, and Tigray,” it asserted. The clear implication was that both Israeli soldiers and Palestinian terrorists have engaged in those “acts of gender-based violence.” But that’s false. One side did it. The other didn’t and doesn’t.
The sacred principle that sexual assault should never be politicized has been left in tatters by #MeToo International. If #MeToo’s leaders think they are helping the Palestinian cause by shielding Hamas from criticism of its rapes, they are mistaken; we all see what Hamas did. In its glaring attempt to cover up for Hamas, all the #MeToo leadership has accomplished is to undermine the noble cause for which #MeToo is supposed to stand.
