I BELIEVE THIS: Why writing by hand is better for remembering things: Keyboards still have a place, but if you want to retain information, grab a pen. I tell students this, and I notice more are handwriting their notes.

WOEING: Boeing is investigating fuselage problems on its 787 Dreamliners.
Reuters reports that company was investigating whether some of the fasteners on its 787 Dreamliner jetliners connecting the planes’ fuselages to their frames had been incorrectly installed, citing sources inside the company. It is not clear what effect the error would have had on plane safety.
In a statement to Quartz, the company confirmed that it was looking into the issue. “Our 787 team is checking fasteners in the side-of-body area of some undelivered 787 Dreamliner airplanes to ensure they meet our engineering specifications,” Boeing said. Neither Reuters nor Boeing said how many planes were affected.
Earlier this year, former Boeing engineer Sam Salehpour made headlines with claims that the skins on some 787 Dreamliners had been put on too unevenly and that many of the planes were in danger of ripping apart in mid-air. Between that plane and the 737 Max model — one of which lost a door plug mid-flight in January — quality issues and safety questions are surrounding models that make up nearly 90% of the plane manufacturer’s current order backlog.
“The in-service fleet can continue to safely operate,” Boeing said in its statement.
A couple of online acquaintances have already sworn off flying on any 737 MAX aircraft and now this…

THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT ALL THE RIGHT PEOPLE GOT THE MONEY: Dem Gov Promised 10,000+ EV, Battery Jobs — $1 Billion And Years Later, She’s Not Close. “Whitmer and the state government have already spent $1 billion of the $2 billion pledged to five different projects to build EV battery factories or expand EV production, but only about 200 jobs have been created, a far cry from the 12,000 jobs Whitmer has stated the companies will ultimately provide for Michiganders, according to Bridge Michigan, a Michigan-focused nonprofit publication of the Center for Michigan. Two years after the subsidies were extended in 2022, only 2% of the jobs promised have been delivered while the state-backed projects have downsized relative to original plans or faced delays.”

I’M ENJOYING THE EURO-MELTDOWN OVER THE RECENT EU ELECTIONS: Macron Is Destroying His Democracy to Save It
Even the most formidable French leader of the 20th century was ejected from power by a dissatisfied electorate. What makes Macron think he can do better?
The only credible answer, it seems to me, is that he has belatedly embraced the power of chaos. , he has decided that his goals can be most successfully achieved by utterly destroying the existing system of political parties and coalition.
Already in the past few days, profound realignments have taken place on the left and right of the political spectrum. It is not impossible that the French center right—the political heirs of Gaullism—will all but disappear. On the left, the real fear of a far-right government has forced entirely incompatible politicians, from Trotskyists to centrist social democrats, into an ad hoc alliance. In the best-case scenario, Macron emerges from this turmoil as the only credible figure of government, like a revolutionary leader left standing after a purge.
But the risks of unleashing chaos are huge. Macron could lose his parliamentary power and his party. He could suffer a crushing defeat at the hands of an angry electorate. Most of all, he could permanently tarnish his legacy by being the first French president to swear in a far-right prime minister who is supported by a far-right majority in parliament. The symbolism of this would be almost as powerful as the notorious picture of Pétain shaking hands with Hitler in 1940.
It’s only been a few days and already the Hitler references are flying.

THIS IS HUGE AND THE PRESS HASN’T DONE MUCH MORE THAN YAWN: So Long, Petrodollar: US-Saudi Arabian Agreement Ends After Fifty Years.
The petrodollar — a deal, not a currency — was born out of the late 1970s energy crisis. The United States, having just gone off the gold standard, struck a deal with Saudi Arabia — one of the largest producers of petroleum in the world — that meant the Saudis would price their oil exclusively in United States dollars and that any surplus revenues from their sales of petroleum would be invested in U.S. Treasury bonds. This had several effects: It ensured the U.S. a supply of oil, it established the U.S. dollar as the global reserve currency, and it helped the U.S. maintain what was, by today’s standards, its modest federal debt.
Those benefits are gone now.
If there is any remaining political, social, economic, or physical capital that the last generation of political leadership hasn’t frittered away, just give them another four years.
