21st CENTURY HEADLINES: Amazon looks to grow diamonds in bid to boost computer networks. “Quantum networking uses subatomic matter to deliver data in a way that goes beyond today’s fiber-optic systems. The diamonds would be part of a component that lets the data travel farther without breaking down.”

I’M NOT SURE THIS IS ANY WORSE THAN THE CITY’S FLESH-AND-BLOOD DRIVERS: Dashcam Footage Shows Driverless Cars Clogging San Francisco. “Driverless cars have completed thousands of journeys in San Francisco—taking people to work, to school, and to and from dates. They have also proven to be a glitchy nuisance, snarling traffic and creeping into hazardous terrain such as construction zones and downed power lines. Autonomous cars in San Francisco made 92 unplanned stops between May and December 2022—88 percent of them on streets with transit service, according to city transportation authorities, who collected the data from social media reports, 911 calls, and other sources, because companies aren’t required to report all the breakdowns.”

GEORGE MF WASHINGTON: When the Bad Guys Became the Good Guys.

Here in 2023, everyone knows that Richard Nixon resigned because he engaged in a massive cover-up of his administration’s involvement in the Watergate break-in, a story revealed by the reporting of Washington Post reporters Bob Woodard and Carl Bernstein. But to watch ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN is to understand that in 1972 the connection between the break-in and the Nixon Government was never obvious, that the outcome of the story was by no means assured. In the beginning, Woodward and Bernstein didn’t have any idea what they had. They started with a weird penny-ante crime story and slowly and methodically followed it all the way to the White House. The result was a best-selling book and one of the greatest movies ever made.

Now compare that with the way our Media Coporations and Big Tech handled the Hunter Biden laptop story. No honest broker would suggest that the details revealed by the release of the laptop’s contents were any less suggestive of massive governmental corruption than was the initial fact pattern surrounding the Watergate break-in. Quite the contrary… the laptop arrived in the Media’s collective in-box with all the dots already connected. But we all know in our hearts that there will never be a big budget studio movie about The Hunter Biden laptop featuring an ensemble of the biggest movie stars of our time, no matter where that story leads.

Because the Bad Guys have become the Good Guys.

MARK JUDGE: A new anti-Kavanaugh book doesn’t mention me by name. Here’s why. “If [CNN Supreme Court reporter Joan Biskupic] named me, she would have to describe the contents of my book, The Devil’s Triangle. I reveal extortion attempts, media manipulation, witness tampering, and even a sexual honey trap, all to destroy me and Brett Kavanaugh. I talk about Leland Keyser, Ford’s friend who denied the alleged assault ever happened and went on to say that she was pressured to change her story. Biskupic doesn’t want to go there because it would collapse her case against Brett. It’s the same reason the Washington Post won’t review my book despite my being a native Washingtonian with deep family roots in the city, and despite the fact that I was at the center of one of the most explosive Washington scandals in decades…As I’ve heard many times said about the media, it ain’t just what they report. It’s what they choose to leave out.”

JIM GERAGHTY ON THE UKRAINE WAR: The Leaked Documents Warning Ukraine’s Counteroffensive Will Likely Stall.

As I said yesterday, this is bad. It is bad that this assessment leaked; it is bad that this assessment of Ukraine’s abilities in the spring offensive are so modest or grim; it is bad that apparently lots of foreign-policy experts have doubts about the administration’s approach but are afraid to say so publicly; and it is bad that Biden’s public assessment of the war in Ukraine is the same rosy-eyed, unrealistic optimism that characterized his assessment of Afghanistan, inflation, migrants crossing the border, and the Chinese spy balloon. The president is always telling us that things are going great and that we have nothing to worry about, and a little later, we learn that the truth is the opposite.

MORE LIKE THIS, PLEASE: Reporter Grills Jean-Pierre On Why Biden Won’t Hold Press Conferences.

Jean-Pierre spoke during Monday’s press briefing about Biden’s lack of interaction with reporters ahead of his trip to the United Kingdom and Ireland.

“The second question has to do with the lack of a press conference during the president’s upcoming trip, and the lack of a press conference that we see in general from this White House,” the reporter began. “I represent a news organization that owns 113 television stations, and a question that I’m often asked, and I don’t know the answer to, so I’ll ask you that question: Is the administration trying to protect the president from our questions? Please –”

“Absolutely not!” Jean-Pierre said. “Absolutely not.”

“So why the lack of any interaction in a formal setting, to have a press conference?” the reporter pressed.

For the same reason he campaigned from a basement in 2020: He isn’t up to the rigors of the job.

NEWS YOU CAN USE: By the way, Covid is over. “Remember COVID-19? It’s the virus from China that we’re not supposed to call a “Chinese virus” because that’s racist or something. (That rule doesn’t apply to food or checkers or anything else, by the way. Just viruses.) It was the end of the world, until St. Anthony Fauci spread his angel’s wings and inoculated the grateful masses. Now the virus is no longer headline news most days. You still see people here and there walking around masked up, but most folks have moved on. People aren’t afraid of germs anymore. The media has found other stuff that’ll scare us half to death. So it’s finally safe for a politician to declare victory.”

SHE’S RIGHT, OF COURSE:
