THERE’S REALLY NO CONTEST BETWEEN OLD SPACE AND NEW SPACE: SpaceX is now building a Raptor engine a day, NASA says. “In 2015, NASA gave Aerojet Rocketdyne a contract worth $1.16 billion to “restart the production line” for the RS-25 engine. Again, that was money just to reestablish manufacturing facilities, not actually build the engines. NASA is paying more than $100 million for each of those. With this startup funding, the goal was for Aerojet Rocketdyne to produce four of these engines per year.”

The Raptor 2 engines will power the Spaceship vehicle, at an eventual projected cost of $250k per engine — or 1/400th the cost of an RS-25.

IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE IF THE FALLOUT FROM THIS DRIVES DOWN YALE’S U.S. NEWS REPUTATION SCORE ENOUGH TO TOPPLE IT FROM #1 IN THE RANKINGS: More Law Profs Debate Judge Ho’s Boycott Of Yale Law School Grads For Judicial Clerkships. The reputation scores survey not only law professors but judges and practicing lawyers.

Related: Robert Steinbuch: Be Quiet So You Can Hear the Free Speech at Yale. Be vewy, vewy quiet: “Yale Law School has seen a series of attacks on conservative speakers by leftist students. Rather than firmly address the disruptive students’ violations of school policies, time and time again Yale administrators found ways to excuse the wrongdoers and intimidate the victims. Yale certainly isn’t alone in this shameful behavior, but it has elevated to an art form, perhaps unmatched in influence, its open hostility toward conservative ideas and open support for leftist disruptions, eggshell outrage, and violence.”

REALLY? MANDATORY GENITAL SURGERY ON TEENS DIDN’T WIN OVER THAT DEMOGRAPHIC? Why Democrats are losing Hispanics: ‘We’re freaking them out.’

This isn’t speculation. The Wilcoxes run a restaurant so they have lots of time to listen to what their Hispanic patrons are saying about the Democratic Party these days. And what they’re saying sounds a lot like what Republicans are saying: The party has moved too far left. It’s no longer a party that seems committed to the ideals of success through hard work or even to capitalism itself. That’s not a message that resonates with a lot of Hispanic voters who came here specifically because they do believe in those things.

It’s so damn obvious, like the jitterbug, it plumb evaded the Dems.

Plus: Hispanics as “Normie voters:” “It is becoming clearer and clearer that Democrats have seriously erred by lumping Hispanics in with “people of color” and assuming they embraced a litany of liberal causes around race and other issues that are dear to the hearts of Democratic activists. This was a flawed assumption. In reality, Hispanic voters are overwhelmingly an upwardly mobile, patriotic population with practical and down to earth concerns focused on jobs, the economy, health care, effective schools and public safety. In short, they are normie voters. And like other normie voters, if they feel Democrats are falling short on the things normie voters care about, they are more than willing to punish the party they hold responsible.”

I WAS SUPPOSED TO MENTION THIS YESTERDAY, BUT… THERE’S A LOT OF STUFF GOING ON: Tom Knighton who runs Tilting At Windmills is running another Instapundit-reader only Subscription sale.

WHAT DID GREENS BURN BEFORE THE FURNITURE? GAS! The Coming Struggle to Keep Warm.

Almost wherever you look, there’s some not-very-important story that tips you off to a subterranean explosion whose full impact won’t be properly felt for a while. The effect is something like the delayed impact of depth charges or deadpan jokes.

Here, for instance, is the London Daily Telegraph telling us that the Brits will be wearing new styles of underwear this winter—and not because they’re hoping for a more exotic sex-life. . . . That’s the precautionary principle reduced to the bare essentials. Like everyone else in the northern hemisphere, ordinary Brits are expecting a chilly winter this year because of the following factors (which didn’t start with Mr. Putin’s war); Like most Western governments, the U.K. powers-that-be have neglected to invest enough in energy security because they quite consciously preferred to invest in transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable forms of energy. That is the orthodoxy of Net-Zero (sometimes enforced by treaties) in E.U. countries such as Germany, non-E.U. countries like Britain, and the U.S.

It’s a massive enterprise because until recently fossil fuels provided more than 85 percent of total energy to even the most technically advanced economies. In pursuit of this vision of a future of all-renewable energy, Germany has shut down almost all its nuclear power stations, keeps equivocating over whether the shut down the few remaining ones, and ends up relying on “dirty coal” now that cheap Russian energy is as unreliable as “renewables.”

Over the Pond the Biden administration has been refusing to license oil-and-gas explorations on federal land with the embarrassing result that it has to import oil from Venezuela. And the U.K. government too has banned “fracking” that would exploit the nation’s plentiful reserves of natural gas. As a result almost all of these countries are facing the risk of energy shortfalls to the point at which energy “blackouts” and rationing are seriously entertained by utilities and regulators if the winter is severe. California too. Moreover, the costs of transitioning to renewables are not only high, they are rising.

Government officials are too dumb to run an economy. Also too corrupt. It shouldn’t be allowed.

THE LEFT CAN’T READ THE ROOM:  The Lightning Rod.

I’M SORRY, THERE’S AN INVESTMENT FIRM CALLED MORNINGSTAR?  Morningstar Agrees to Eliminate Anti-Israel Bias In Investment Rating System.

Look, guys, I’m not even religious that way, but this is bad novel levels of foreshadowing. Are you for real now? People are investing with this? Try to avoid being badly plotted, okay?

Oh, Lucifer, son of the morning, how hast thou fallen? Yeah, I’d say that — um — there was some anti-Israel bias.

YEAH, I’M GETTING READY TO SHUT THEM OFF. PayPal slides after forecasting lower annual revenue. If you want to donate via the PayPal button, it’s probably now or never unless they change their ways last-minute. And more people have been sending checks, which I really appreciate too. Thanks so much for your support!
