ALLAHPUNDIT IS LEAVING HOT AIR to join Jonah Goldberg, David French, et al., at The Dispatch.

JEFF GOLDSTEIN: When Turnips Attack! Joe Biden is the most dangerous threat to the US since the Civil War. “Remember the instructive, sober words of communication luminary, Karine Jean-Pierre: you’re considered an extremist if you disagree with the progressive political consensus. Opposition to the ruling party is an act of insurrection.”

President Turnip has F-15s. Do you? President Turnip directs a military armed with non-gendered pronouns and led by a thick-bodied, bag-eyed yes man in touch with his privilege and aware of his own white rage. Do you? President Turnip has the unwavering support of Max Boot and Jen Rubin — two of this country’s most beautiful minds. Do you?

“Dark Brandon,” flanked by Marines and backed by Hellish lighting, mumbled, shouted, and emoted his way through a Hitleresque scapegoating of large swaths of the population. And his call to arms has energized all the woke and virtuous defenders of democracy, who are now demanding a one-party system and the shunning of Republicans as lesser humans. Because, in the same way you sometimes have to destroy villages to save them, sometimes you have to become an unelected Administrative dictatorship to save democracy from the benighted and filthy MAGAts who so frustratingly vote incorrectly.

President Turnip’s speech — presented with the full backing of the Executive branch and its law enforcement and justice arms — was perhaps the most egregious speech ever given by a US president. It was more than simply divisive. It was tacit permission to treat those who don’t favor progressive governance as enemies of the State. It’s the summer of 2020 with presidential approval. It’s dangerous. It’s unconscionable.

Yes.

HOW IT STARTED:

“We are a city that is a sanctuary city. We have immigrants from all over the world who call Chicago their home. They’ll continue to do that, and we’re going to continue to make sure that this is truly a welcoming community for those immigrants and we want them to come to the city of Chicago.”

“Chicago Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot Says Immigrants ‘Welcome’ Despite Donald Trump’s Remarks on Sanctuary Cities,” Newsweek, April 13th, 2019.

How it’s going: Lori Lightfoot Calls Greg Abbott A Racist For Sending Illegal Immigrants To Chicago.

—The Daily Wire, today.

QUESTION ASKED: Why won’t journalists ask Karine Jean-Pierre about her election denial history?

We’re often told in hyperbolic terms that Trump’s denialism is a very grave threat to the republic. Yet, it’s also apparently such a grave threat that not a single reporter will ask the current White House press secretary about her past statements denying legitimate election results.

In December of 2016, Karine Jean-Pierre tweeted , “Stolen emails, stolen drone, stolen election. … welcome to the world of #unpresidented Trump.”

Jean-Pierre also tweeted in 2019 about the Georgia Governor’s race, contested by Democrat Stacey Abrams, who did not concede the race. “Yes — the race was stolen,” she said in response to another Twitter user’s post. Jean-Pierre repeated the claim in April of 2020, tweeting, “Reminder: Brian Kemp stole the gubernatorial election from Georgians and Stacey Abrams.”

Just think of the media as Democratic Party operatives with bylines, and their amnesia makes perfect sense.

ED MORRISSEY: CNN: Biden used Marines “as a political pawn” for his campaign speech.

Kudos not just to CNN’s Brianna Keilar, whose New Day show is reportedly on the Warner/Discovery chopping block, but also to Allison Jaslow for taking a principled stand on this point. Jaslow worked at the upper levels of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and fully endorses Joe Biden’s execrable speech last night on substance. However, as an Iraq War combat vet, Jaslow took offense to the stagecraft of the speech that included the Marine guard at Independence Hall as a backdrop.

“Somebody made a decision to put those Marines in the shot,” Jaslow points out, “and the reality is those Marines didn’t have a choice whether to be there or not.” Their presence undermined the entire point of Biden’s speech, which was — according to Jaslow — supposed to return America to political normalcy (via Mediaite):

Allison Jaslow, combat vet & former top @dccc official on the Marines at Pres. Biden’s speech: “Some people might see this as small ball” but “if you don’t want the so-called MAGA Republicans or any Republicans to be politicizing the military… then you shouldn’t do it yourself.”

Exit quote: “Kudos again to Keilar, Zeleny, CNN, and especially Jaslow. We’ll have lots of disagreements with Jaslow in the future, and I vehemently disagree with her take on the speech itself, but she has guts — and guts is sometimes enough.”

JOEL KOTKIN: Electric Car Mandates: The Latest Frontier in the Elites’ War on the Middle Class.

California is working overtime to prove something that is obvious to most middle-class Americans: Electric vehicle mandates are something of a scam.

A week ago, California announced it would ban the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035—only to beg residents this week to stop charging their electric cars for fear of breaking the power grid amid a massive heatwave.

This is the untenable future that California’s green agenda promises. California Governor Gavin Newsom’s decision to eliminate gas cars over the next decade represents an enormous bet on a single, increasingly pricey technology which will assuredly raise basic costs to middle and lower-income Californians in the decades ahead. And it places the once proud auto industry at the mercy of China, which dominates the market for electric vehicle (EV) components and the raw materials that go into them.

Indeed.

LIFE IN A BANANA REPUBLIC:

IRONIC: Harvard ‘misinformation’ journal sued for defamation, false statements.

Founders of an African-American advocacy group filed a lawsuit against Harvard University and its Misinformation Review for allegedly publishing defamatory statements.

“The case is still in its early stages, but is gaining momentum,” Lance Filer, an attorney representing Yvette Carnell and Antonio Moore, told The College Fix via email. He declined to comment further at this time.

The pair seek damages for defamation, negligent publication and emotional distress.

The state lawsuit accused Harvard University and its affiliates of defaming Carnell and Moore, the founders of American Descendants of Slavery, a group that advocates for African-Americans. ADOS wanted black Americans in 2020 to promise to vote for down ballot candidates only, unless the Democratic presidential nominee embraced a specific agenda.

This is not how Misinformation Review, a publication of the Harvard Kennedy School and its Shorenstein Center, framed the aims of the organization and its founders.

Do tell. It’s as if Shorenstein and the Kennedy School are just more Democratic Party message-control tools.

COLORADO: Democrat Michael Bennet virtually tied with GOP challenger Joe O’Dea in Colorado Senate race. “The survey, conducted for the Republican Attorney General’s Association, showed Bennet up over O’Dea 48% to 47%, with 5% undecided. O’Dea, the wealthy owner of a construction company, is a prized Republican candidate who has positioned himself as a centrist in a bid to oust Bennet, 57, in Colorado, a blue state President Joe Biden won by double digits nearly two years ago.”

To be fair, calling Bennet an empty suit would be a slander against empty suits.

DON’T GET COCKY: The Latest Hispanic Trend Is Not Good for Democrats. “For Catholic Americans, there may be some lamentations over the diaspora happening in the Hispanic community. They’re leaving for Protestant denominations reportedly because they feel less confined in these churches, which also have a stronger sense of community. Younger Hispanics are also flocking to the Protestant churches, whose surge is also driven by Latinos converting fellow Latinos.”

MANNING REMEMBERS: Rick Manning, head honcho of Americans for Limited Government (ALG), that is. Remember when the Left rioted in D.C. the night Trump was nominated by the GOP convention? Manning was there and he, along with many others who were trying to walk a few blocks to their cars, were blocked by the rioters and rescued by the D.C. police. Can you guess who didn’t say a word about it?
