GEORGE MF WASHINGTON: Risk Is Our Business.

It’s impossible to discuss the politics of Star Trek without focusing on the original 1960’s series, which is where the entire ethos of the Star Trek Universe received its DNA. No series produced since then could exist without the context, the canon if you will, that this first series provided.

So first, let’s be clear about what the original Star Trek series, Gene Roddenberry’s first creation, actually was… it was a smart, muscular and unapologetic defense of the power of Western Civilization to change the world (universe) for the better… and it was a series which celebrated courage and risk taking as among the most important of all human virtues.

If any of that sounds like something that would send Conservatives fleeing for their lives like vampires before a runaway garlic truck with a busted brake line, well then you’re probably a BLM activist… or at the very least you are admitting that you’re entirely ignorant of the things that modern Conservatives actually believe.

The problem, in my experience, is that most Progressives have not actually seen much of the original series (TOS), and have only a very rudimentary understanding of the show’s ethos. To the extent they are familiar with TOS at all, it is often through modern media “criticism” of the show which focuses on what mainstream critics, which is to say Leftists, have concluded… that the show’s politics were proudly and unapologetically Progressive.

The problem is that this conclusion just ain’t true… it’s a misunderstanding often based on a single episode… “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield”, which has become the most famous episode of Star Trek precisely because it is about race… our modern culture’s most fraught, most talked about, most obsesssed-over issue.

Plus, a look at “A Private Little War” and “Patterns of Force,” so you’ll want to read the whole thing.

PRIORITIES: Border-Jumpers Are Pushing American Kids Out Of School All Across The Country.

Democrats’ open border is turning the entire United States into a refugee camp. The record-breaking numbers of foreigners allowed to break U.S. border laws are most heavily affecting large and sanctuary cities like New York City, but the numbers are so high they can’t help but affect cities across America as well.

Yesterday, a Brooklyn high school informed parents their children will be getting low-quality remote instruction because their school is being turned into a refugee camp. The 4,000 students are being displaced on behalf of approximately 1,900 foreign lawbreakers. In spring 2023, city officials also occupied school gyms with migrants, prompting safety concerns from parents about unvetted, military-age male foreigners sharing buildings with their kids.

As the “Louder with Crowder” blog notes, “Brooklyn went 74%-25% to Joe Biden, whose policies started the current border crisis. Also, pro-illegal immigration Governor Kathy Hochul won Brooklyn 72% to 28%.”

Gooder and harder.

THE NEW SPACE RACE: SpaceX targeting February for Starship’s 3rd flight test.

SpaceX Vice President of Customer Operations and Integration Jessica Jensen said the company is already seeking approval for Starship’s third flight. “From a hardware readiness perspective, we are targeting to be ready in January. And then, from an FAA licensing perspective, we’re getting a license for flight three,” Jensen said, referring to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

Jensen added that SpaceX is currently finishing up making corrective actions requested after Starship’s second flight test, but that the company expects FAA approval for the third flight test to come in February. “We’re expecting that license to come in February. So, it’s looking like like three will occur in February of this year.”

Faster, please.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Gosh, Whatever Will GOP Voters Do Without Chris Christie? “Christie’s was the worst of the Trump tantrums in this Republican field. He was the first of the failed 2016 candidates to endorse Donald Trump. Christie remained a confidante through 2020. Daddy apparently didn’t give him enough hugs, and the relationship soured.”

WELL, GOOD: British MPs back bill banning Israel boycotts. “A bill preventing public institutions in the U.K. from launching their own boycotts of Israeli goods cleared its latest House of Commons hurdle Wednesday night — but the opposition Labour Party accused ministers of playing games.”

Of course they did. The nastiest antisemitism almost all comes from the Left now.

WE’LL KNOW SOON ENOUGH: Thursday’s inflation report could challenge the market outlook for big Fed rate cuts.

Economists expect that inflation nudged higher in December, a trend that could call into question the market’s eager anticipation that the Federal Reserve will slash interest rates this year.

The consumer price index, a widely followed measure of the costs folks pay for a wide range of goods and services, is projected to have risen 0.2% in the final month of 2023, or 3.2% for the full year, according to Dow Jones.

At a time when the Fed is fighting inflation through tight monetary policy including elevated rates, news that prices are holding at high levels could be enough to disrupt already-fragile markets.

Markets that depended on low-to-zero interest rates to generate returns were never that robust to begin with.

NOTHING’S SHOCKING: California’s Next Suicidal Idea Will Shock You — Unless It Doesn’t. “You know, it seems like only yesterday [It was only yesterday, Steve —editor.] I reported that progressive groupthink had doomed California to a slow-motion suicide starting 30 years ago. But instead of reversing course, one representative is adding another few drops of arsenic to the state’s coffee supply.”

THE SELF-SERVING IS SELF-EVIDENT: As Harvard Dean, Claudine Gay Weakened Faculty Plagiarism Policy. The Corporation Leaned on That Policy To Try To Save Her Job. “Before she became the shortest-serving president in Harvard’s history, Claudine Gay watered down the school’s policy on research misconduct, making it more difficult to sanction faculty members for plagiarism—and greenlighting the very rules the school invoked in a last-ditch effort to save her job.”

IT IS UNWISE TO ANGER CZAR VLADIMIR, JOE BIDEN TAKES NOTES: Kremlin foe Navalny says he’s been put in a punishment cell in an Arctic prison colony. “Navalny, 47, is jailed on charges of extremism. He had been imprisoned in the Vladimir region of central Russia, about 230 kilometers (140 miles) east of Moscow but was transferred last month to a ‘special regime’ penal colony — the highest security level of prisons in Russia — above the Artic Circle.”

I’VE SEEN THE LOCKDOWNS AND THE DAMAGE DONE: Global economy set for its worst half decade of growth in 30 years, World Bank says.

Global growth is forecast to slow for the third year in a row in 2024, dipping to 2.4% from 2.6% in 2023, the organization said in its latest “Global Economic Prospects” report released Tuesday.

Growth is then expected to rise marginally to 2.7% in 2025, though acceleration over the five-year period will remain almost three-quarters of a percentage point below the average rate of the 2010s.

We were someday going to have to pay the bill for shutting down the global economy and then pumping the economy full of funny money, and here it is.

THE NEW SPACE RACE: NASA delays first moon landing in decades.

NASA is delaying its long-awaited return to the surface of the moon by a year over crew safety concerns.

Why it matters: The landing was one of two postponements to the Artemis program announced by the space agency, as it also pushed back a slingshot around the moon that was scheduled for next year.

The crew of four astronauts for Artemis II will now have to wait until 2025 before they can make their planned flyby, while their lunar landing as part of Artemis III was bumped from 2025 to 2026.

Artemis IV, the first planned mission to an extraterrestrial space station, dubbed the Gateway, remains on track for 2028, NASA said.

NASA said anomalies during the unmanned Artemis I test mission prompted the delays.

This is a disappointment but it isn’t a surprise.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Georgia Trump Haters Are Getting Their Fani Handed to Them. “The people who are most vehement about keeping Trump off the 2024 ballot because it’s the ‘right’ thing to do have long struck me as a collection of bottom-feeders who would sell their mothers for beer money. Until now, New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg has seemed like the biggest reprobate of the bunch. He may yet prove me right but, for the moment, there is a new lowlife champ in town.”

WOEING: Workers at Boeing Subcontractor Told to Falsify Records, New Investigation Finds. “Less than a month before a door plug on a Boeing aircraft blew off midflight, employees at Spirit AeroSystems, a subcontractor for Boeing, had tried to warn corporate officials about serious safety problems with parts for 737 MAX jets. But those warnings went unheeded, and the employees were told to falsify records, according to a new investigation by The Lever on a federal complaint filed by workers at Spirit.”
