OPEN THREAD: Hang on baby, Friday’s coming.

THE NEW SPACE RACE: With access to space on the line, the U.S. is eating its seed corn. “Sometimes, success has unforeseen consequences. The United States Space Force and Air Force (and NASA) have, in essence, decided they will simply procure space launch as a service from SpaceX. This isn’t an actual decision but is nevertheless true enough, as it has become the default situation. Cost and availability — the comparative ease of getting a launch slot — have resulted in tremendous business success for SpaceX.”

Well, I love SpaceX but I wish Blue Origin, ULA, etc. were better competitors. They’re not. Ideally, NASA should still be doing the bleeding-edge research, but are they even up to that? I mean, given the realities, reliance on SpaceX makes sense. But of course, like all institutions SpaceX will eventually ossify and become less creative, especially without significant competition.

INCONCEIVABLE! Perjury in a J6 Trial?

Usually everything’s on the up-and-up in your Stalinist show trials.

THE NEXT IN MY “UNDERAPPRECIATED ALBUMS” SERIES FOR PJMEDIA/TOWNHALL VIP SUBSCRIBERS: ‘March.’ “Michael Penn recorded the first great album of the 21st century, but the truly remarkable detail is that he did it in 1989.”

BIDEN FEDS SURVEILED BIBLE BUYERS: Not only did Treasury and the FBI “ask” banks, credit cards and other financial firms to search customers’ private accounts using the terms “MAGA” and “Trump,” they also encouraged searches for “Religious Texts.” A bunch of civil liberties experts I interviewed today on this are outraged.

EV NEWS: We Have Bad Afeela’ns about the Sony-Honda Electric Car. “No additional stats or details resulted from this recent look, but with it did come some new and rather worrying revelations about what the Afeela car—and other upcoming cars like it—portend.”

WELL-MEANING, BUT UNCONSTITUTIONAL AS HELL: I’m not sure if the Oklahoma Legislature is just trolling mainstream media, but they have introduced a bill that would require impositions akin to “licensing” journalists and publishers. Real democracies don’t do that.

Yes, I’m sure that Taylor Lorenz and Keith Olbermann’s tests may provide interesting (and explanatory) results, but this could swing both ways. The bill would require that:

“Each individual reporter, producer, writer, editor, or any other employee involved in the production of content distributed by a media outlet is hereby required to:

a. complete a criminal background check conducted by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation,

b. receive a license as prescribed by the Corporation Commission as provided in subsection C of this section,

c. complete a propaganda-free safety training course of no less than eight (8) hours as prescribed by the State Department of Education, which shall be developed in coordination with PragerU,

d. provide proof of liability insurance no less than One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00), and

e. submit to quarterly drug testing for illicit substances to be administered by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation”

Mind you, I’m a big fan of Prager, but honestly, I can think of many people, like myself, who consider vodka one of our “Precious Bodily Fluids.”

PROGRESS: B-21 Raider Flight Testing Now Underway. “An Air Force official confirmed to The War Zone that the initial B-21, one of six pre-production examples the service plans to acquire, flew a sortie from Edwards today. That same individual said that this was not the aircraft’s first flight from that base, but declined to say when that milestone was reached or how many times it has flown in total. The bomber, which is nicknamed Cerberus, first arrived at Edwards at the conclusion its maiden flight from Northrop Grumman’s facilities at the Air Force’s Plant 42 in Palmdale, California on November 10, 2023.”

IN DEEP DECLINE: Jeffrey Carter: American Cities Are Squalid. “Any clue which political party and what kind of people have run big American cities for more than five decades?”
