CONSPIRACY THEORIES ABOUND:

I can’t imagine why.

BRAVE NEW WTF: When AI Is Trained on AI-Generated Data, Strange Things Start to Happen.

Though whether it sticks in the long term remains to be seen, at least for the time being generative AI seems to be cementing its place in our digital and real lives. And as it becomes increasingly ubiquitous, so does the synthetic content it produces. But in an ironic twist, those same synthetic outputs might also stand to be generative AI’s biggest threat.

That’s because underpinning the growing generative AI economy is human-made data. Generative AI models don’t just cough up human-like content out of thin air; they’ve been trained to do so using troves of material that actually was made by humans, usually scraped from the web. But as it turns out, when you feed synthetic content back to a generative AI model, strange things start to happen. Think of it like data inbreeding, leading to increasingly mangled, bland, and all-around bad outputs. (Back in February, Monash University data researcher Jathan Sadowski described it as “Habsburg AI,” or “a system that is so heavily trained on the outputs of other generative AI’s that it becomes an inbred mutant, likely with exaggerated, grotesque features.”)

It’s a problem that looms large. AI builders are continuously hungry to feed their models more data, which is generally being scraped from an internet that’s increasingly laden with synthetic content. If there’s too much destructive inbreeding, could everything just… fall apart?

Yes.

On the flip side, though, is this: AI’s real problem is that it’s boring.

Indeed, as anyone who has spent any time playing with ChatGPT can tell you.

AT THIS POINT, LUTTIG IS JUST ANOTHER DEFECTIVE PRODUCT FROM BOEING: “I can’t help reading between the lines and seeing Luttig’s outrage that Trump broke the system in which the elite were thinking up the beliefs and values and principles and policy views and ordinary people were stuck with what was handed to them. It’s very nice for the elite to have the subjective experience of a ‘shared set of beliefs’ — to feel affirmed by this appearance of widespread agreement with their ideas. Trump activated the people who didn’t really share that set of beliefs, and now the elite is having the loathsome subjective experience of feeling pressure from those insubordinate people. But the elite will go on and on pretending that all they are seeing is that dangerous man Trump. He must be stopped, and America must be saved, by getting back to that old system that felt so right.”

*BADA-BING* The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals utterly smoked the Biden Administration’s Thought Police in a hearing yesterday over whether the injunction against government collusion to suppress conservative speech on social media should be lifted.

JustTheNews reports that:

“Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Jennifer Walker Elrod declared in court that the Biden administration’s efforts to persuade social media companies to remove, throttle and suppress purported misinformation on COVID-19, Hunter Biden’s laptop and elections reminded her of a mafia movie.”

Government lawyers did everything they could to soft-pedal the meetings White House officials had with social media executives, claiming that the meetings and emails were “merely requests” in the public interest. The three-judge panel wasn’t buying it. At all. Judge Don Willett blasted the DOJ lawyers for making that excuse:

“Federal officials appeared to practice “fairly unsubtle strong-arming” and make “not-so-veiled threats” in the vein of “this is a really nice social media platform you’ve got there, would be a shame if something happened to it.

Golly, where have we heard that before?

The court did not issue a ruling immediately — appeals courts rarely do — but as The Good Professor says, “Read the Whole Thing.”

Most litigators will tell you to never bet on a ruling just from the questions and statements of judges in a hearing, but having won and lost my share of these, when you see this much blood on the floor, you get a good sense of where things are going.

Should this case continue in the same direction, conservative and independent publishers, bloggers and pundits are going to have a field day bringing cases against social media companies for acting as government surrogates.

FROM NATHAN BRINDLE: The Cross-Time Kamaitachi.

The Cross-Time Kamaitachi (Timelines Universe Book 5) by [Nathan C. Brindle]

I did not land here as a warrior, but a warrior I so soon became . . .
One moment, Dr. Yukiko Yamaguchi was in her high-tech singularity research lab in California, busily adjusting an electronically-leaky fitting playing hell with her instrument readings.
The next moment, she was falling through space, and landing hard in a wilderness area she would quickly discover was her family’s ancient stomping grounds in Japan – but with an apocalyptic twist.
A hundred years later, there would be legends of a great yōkai, a demon, whom some called a kamaitachi – a sort-of whirlwind, weasel-like creature with blades for claws, which catches up unwary humans and slices their skin. But this kamaitachi is no ordinary yōkai – rather, she is The Cross-Time Kamaitachi

I THINK THE RACIAL ANIMOSITY IS BEING CAREFULLY STOKED BY A MEDIA THAT PLAYS UP THE WORST INCIDENTS BETWEEN RACES, ETC:  To the Knife.

As I’ve said before, the left’s plan for saving their gambit has now devolved to Charlie Manson’s plan:  Provocation and incitement – race war -???????- Victory.

It makes no sense, but then neither do any of their other ideas.

JOY IS NOT RECOMMENDED BY THE PARTY, COMRADE:  Thieves of joy.

KIND OF. EXCEPT THE FULL THING … HE STILL SAID IT. YES, HE’S TRYING TO HAVE HIS CAKE AND EAT IT TOO, BUT HE STILL SAID IT. AND IT’S NOT THE FIRST TIME HE’S SENT OFF HIS SURROGATES TO SAY IT EITHER:  Those truncated DeSantis quotes.
