JEEZ, WHERE YA BEEN, HOMER? THE WHOLE STEEL INDUSTRY’S GAY: Is America Going Queer?

(Classical reference in headline.)

JACK SHAFER: Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Real Motive.

Kennedy’s candidacy has broadened the platform for his previously banned-by-Facebook-and-Instagram outré ideas about vaccines, not to mention his views on his father’s assassination, gender dysphoria and chemicals, antidepressants and school shootings, the CIA, and the “stolen” 2004 election. That adds to the considerable platform he has already built on his podcasts and his bestselling screed The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health. The current campaign has and will continue to expand his exposure until he concedes the nomination to Biden.

Kennedy may have spent his career as an environmental activist and litigator on the political sidelines, but he’s well aware of the dividends that can be earned from running a long-shot presidential campaign. As laid out in a recent Insider article, the typical dark horse candidacy is mostly about climbing the rungs of power. Would former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg be the secretary of Transportation today if he hadn’t run in 2020? Would Kamala Harris, who polled below Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders for almost the entire 2020 primary campaign, and frequently did worse than Buttigieg, have been tapped as Biden’s running mate if she had not run? Would Sanders possess his current clout if not for his two unexpectedly strong forays? Failed candidacies have produced book contracts, cable TV deals, paid speaking engagements, lobbying gigs and proximity to power.

There is a flip side though. As Glenn noted last night, “incumbents who face a serious primary challenge generally lose. RFK Jr. is polling around 20%. Compare to Eugene McCarthy in 1968.” And Ronald Reagan versus Jerry Ford in 1976, Teddy Kennedy versus Jimmy Carter in 1980, and Pat Buchanan versus George H.W. Bush in 1992.

NATO: Turkey’s Bombshell Sweden Demand Rocks NATO Summit Before it Even Begins.

Alliance leaders gathering in Vilnius on the eve of Tuesday’s summit were hoping a meeting between Erdogan and Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson would see the Turkish leader lift his veto on Sweden’s membership.

But President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appeared in no mood to compromise, declaring that he would only back Sweden’s NATO candidacy if European Union members – most of whom are also NATO allies – agree to revive Turkey’s negotiations to join the EU.

The demand, never before made in public, threatened to open a new rift between Ankara and its Western partners, even as NATO and the EU tackle Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the continent’s worst security crisis since World War II.

But: NATO chief says Turkey agrees to send Sweden’s NATO accession protocol to Parliament swiftly.

My initial thought was, “Somebody backed down in a hurry and it probably wasn’t the EU because they almost never do anything quickly.”

But then this: The Turkey-NATO Deal On Sweden Is A Disaster.

President Biden’s team, working assiduously in the background, may want to share Stoltenberg’s supposed triumph.

They should not.

What NATO officials bill as a diplomatic masterstroke is actually a disaster in the making.

Put aside Turkey’s humiliation of Sweden and the erosion, at Erdogan’s behest, of free speech and democracy in that country. And put aside the hypocrisy of treating Kurds in Sweden as terrorists when Islamic State sympathizers in Turkey not only roam free but also populate Erdogan’s administration and Turkey’s intelligence service.

Rather, the problem appears to be a new quid pro quo.

Not only does Turkey now expect the lifting of most defense-related sanctions, but a Turkish official also said that Turkey now expects

Europe to fast track its long moribund European Union accession process.

“A disaster in the making” is an apt description of Biden’s overall foreign policy.

IT’S OKAY, HE WON’T UNDERSTAND IT: Axios Has a New Nickname for Joe Biden and We Don’t Think He’s Going to Like It. “Old Yeller.” Well, he’s old, and he yells a lot. But, you know, inappropriate anger is a sign of dementia.

Don’t worry. Not my boobs. I mean, as far as I know they’re not anybody’s boobs. Free boobs. And very cute. (No, it’s not click bait. You know very well they’re not female anatomy.)

JOHN PODHORETZ WRITES A RAVE REVIEW FOR THE SOUND OF FREEDOM AND ADDS:

Now, I hate QAnon, and I’m sorry Jim Caviezel is a nut who goes on Steve Bannon’s podcast, and I really wish Ballard wouldn’t play footsie with any of this. But seriously, when I see liberals actively seeking to suppress a movie because its star and subject are not aligned with them politically, it makes me want to throw a pie in their faces. I’ve spent 50 years tolerating political views I find repellent from actors who make creditable movies and acknowledging the value of movies whose politics I might abhor. Give cultural and creative open-mindedness a shot, you idiot commissars. And screw you besides.

My own opinion, which I admit is purely speculative, is that QAnon, and PizzaGate, were deliberate deceptions aimed at fooling and discrediting people on the right. And given all the stuff that lefty stars have spouted over the years, yeah, I agree with Podhoretz.

Plus: “This movie will likely be one of the few box-office surprises of 2023 when all is said and done. And it happens to feature what may be the best supporting performance in any American movie so far this year.”

I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT SHE MEANS:  Hollowed Out.

But our flag was and is still there. It’s the institutions that have grown on the republic, like cancerous growths that are rotten, not the Republic.

STUPID BUT AMBITIOUS PEOPLE ARE OFTEN VERY ANGRY AT EVERYONE:  Mean Old Uncle Joe.

From their perspective it looks like the whole world is pulling on over on them. And Zhoe Bai-Den is dumb as rocks.

SPEAKING OF HATED (NUMERICAL) MINORITIES:  Boobs.
