GREAT MOMENTS IN OWN-GOALS: The Miami Herald ran a hit piece on DeSantis for raising money using a “fake news” site. That site was literally The Babylon Bee.
I know the Herald is extremely jealous of the Bee’s rapid ascension to becoming America’s Newspaper of Record, but try not to be so obvious about it, guys.
BRILLIANT: Allie Beth Stuckey looks at systematic groomer supremacy and groomer fragility.
As this editor wrote yesterday, Tuesday seemed to be the big push (from the Left and Right) against using the term “groomer” to those opposed to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill. David French posted a thread saying that “redefining” grooming in that way was “pure malice.” Jonathan Chait wrote that “groomer” was the “hot new smear” against “everybody who disagrees with the GOP.” MSNBC’s Chris Hayes kicked off his show with the truly despicable “pro-pedophilia slander” that’s become “mainstream” among conservatives. And on Wednesday, David Harsanyi wrote in National Review that the “groomer” accusation is counterproductive.
A few days ago, a non-binary birthing person wrote in HuffPost how she was trying to raise her kids as homosexuals, but they were steeped in “heterosexual grooming” culture. It was satire intending to turn the argument around, but the Left aren’t the only ones who can play that game. Allie Beth Stuckey has taken her cues from Robin DiAngelo and Ibram X. Kendi and posted a thread today on “groomer fragility.”
Heh, indeed. Read the whole thing.

NEW VERDICT IN CAPITOL RIOT CASE THROWS A WRENCH INTO POLITICAL NARRATIVE:
A federal defense contractor who had been charged with four misdemeanors for walking into the Capitol on Jan. 6, fought the charges and was acquitted on all counts today by Judge Trevor McFadden. Matthew Martin was charged with: entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building, violent entry and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, as well as parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.
But Martin didn’t commit any violence or break into the building. He argued that he believed that the Capitol Police had allowed him into the building, and he just walked in.
McFadden said that, based on video of the scene, that assertion was at least “plausible” and that prosecutors failed to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
“People were streaming by and the officers made no attempt to stop the people,” said the judge [….]
“I do think the defendant reasonably believed the officers allowed him into the Capitol,” the judge said.
McFadden said that the government did not show any evidence of Martin crossing police lines, and that Martin’s “conduct was about as minimal….as I can imagine.”
This is a significant verdict. While some are charged with more serious offenses, many of the people charged for Jan. 6 offenses are in a similar position to Martin — they didn’t do much beyond walk into the building. Some have argued — as Martin did — that the police let them in.
And as Julie Kelly tweets, “What’s notable in this trial isn’t so much that Martin convinced McFadden he was waved into the building but that a USCP official CONFIRMED under oath that police let people inside.”
CHOOSING SIDES: Disney Hires Dem Political Operative to Lead Global Communications.

I was against copyright extensions for Disney long before the current dispute. I have even argued that they are unconstitutional as violations of the “limited term” provision in the Patent & Copyright Clause. The piece, which was published in the Harvard Journal on Legislation in 2000, is here.
A COUNTEROFFENSIVE IN THE WAR ON PARENTS IN WISCONSIN:
All across the state Tuesday night, conservative parents won decisive victories in school board elections, ousting liberal incumbents and sending a clear message that their communities will no longer stand for mask mandates and radical curricula.
Snodgrass’ quickly deleted tweet served as something of a rallying cry for communities fed up with arrogant, incompetent liberalism. In Menomonee Falls, three conservative candidates who dubbed themselves the “moms on a mission” swept all three of the school board seats that were up for grabs.
In the more liberal-leaning City of Waukesha, the slate of three conservatives completed a similar sweep, taking out two liberal board members and cementing a solid conservative majority. Two liberal incumbents went down in Pewaukee, too, where conservatives swept the three seats.
So did conservatives in New Berlin. And the Whitnall School District. The conservatives were the top three vote-getters in the Cedarburg School Board race—considered one of the most bitter and divisive in the state—and would have swept all four seats had one incumbent not resigned amid a harassment campaign against her.
The Spring Election was a great one for conservatives. Even though Democrat Cavalier Johnson predictably won the Milwaukee mayoral race, conservative judge Maria Lazar defeated liberal Governor Evers appointee Lori Kornblum to win a seat on the Second District Court of Appeals while Samantha Kerkman became the first-ever Republican Kenosha County Executive.
Yet the biggest victories were in the smallest races. School board elections typically don’t generate banner headlines or intense public interest, but paradoxically have the greatest impact on local communities. Over the past two years, the most intense battles weren’t in Congress or state capitols but in school libraries and auditoriums, where children’s futures were quite literally being decided.
Would they go back to in-person learning? Would they have to wear masks? Would they learn America is a racist hellhole? Would they be encouraged to change genders?
Parents wanted a say in these critical decisions, and the more they were shouted down, locked out of meetings, and even called domestic terrorists by the Biden Justice Department, the more they steeled their resolve.
Fight the power. Stick it to the man.

GOP REP. CHIP ROY CALLS DEMS OUT ON THEIR LATEST COVID HYPOCRISY:
Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy called out Democrats supporting Title 42’s end while fearing emerging COVID-19 variants.
During a House Judiciary Committee markup Wednesday of legislation dubbed the “Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act,” Roy slammed his Democratic colleagues who feared the virus’ new forms, but supported the decision to end Title 42, a public health order.
Title 42, a Trump-era order, was put in place in March 2020 to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and has resulted in the expulsions of over 1.7 million migrants, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Friday that the order will end May 23.
“First of all, the gentlelady from Texas [Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee] refers to the supposed concern and fear that she has about the Omicron variant coming in April,” Roy said. “Then, on what basis is the CDC recommending that they end Title 42? … If this is such a great concern, then why would the CDC say ‘oh no, we don’t need to use Title 42 to protect our Border Patrol agents, protect Americans, stem the tide of 8,000 people a day coming across our border.”

BEN SHAPIRO: The Left Is the Culture War Aggressor.
This prompted a well-deserved firestorm for the Mouse House. Disney has long been Left-wing on social issues — but in the aftermath of ginned-up controversy surrounding Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, which protects small children from indoctrination on sexual orientation and gender identity, an angry coterie of employees pushed management to signal fealty even harder. So Disney’s brass did, announcing that they opposed the Florida bill and then turning over the company to its most radical contingent.
And people reacted. #BoycottDisney began to trend on social media. We at the Daily Wire committed to spending $100 million to develop children’s content that would be safe for kids — content dedicated to traditional values, where parents wouldn’t have to worry about prescreening content for messages about nonbinary 5-year-olds.
The Left, caught with its hand in the kiddie jar, immediately swiveled and accused the Right of initiating this culture war. Michelle Goldberg of The New York Times lamented that she felt terrible for Raveneau, who, after all, was just “step[ping] up to defend the company’s queer friendliness, only to become a national object of right-wing fury and disgust,” and whose injection of LGBTQ propaganda into children’s content was “sweetly anodyne.” CNN hosted Washington Post transgender columnist Charlotte Clymer, adding the chyron “LGBT COMMUNITY LATEST TO BE CAUGHT IN CULTURE WAR.” The takeaway, according to the social Left, is that anyone who defends traditionalism in child-rearing — or anyone who simply doesn’t want children turned into targets of sexual propagandizing — is the true cultural aggressor.

THE BIGGER THE BURGER THE BETTER THE BURGER, THE BURGERS AREN’T BIGGER AT BURGER KING: Burger King sued over size of its burgers: A lawsuit claims Burger King began to “materially overstate” the size of its burgers in ads starting a few years ago. “This isn’t the first time Burger King has faced accusations about misleading advertisements. In 2010, Britain’s advertising standards watchdog ruled a TV commercial for Burger King’s Tendercrisp chicken burger misled viewers about the product’s size and ingredients. According to the BBC, the Advertising Standards Authority found the burgers’ thickness and overall height was ‘considerably less’ than shown in the ad.”
