I HAD TO LEAVE. THEY WERE HAVING FUN WRONG. Not The Onion: CDC Warns Against Shouting, Cheering During Sunday’s Super Bowl.

No, this is not The Onion …

As part of its recommendations to avoid spreading Covid-19 when in small gatherings, the CDC is warning against “shouting, cheering loudly, or singing” as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.

The agency recommends to “clap, stomp your feet, or bring (or provide) hand-held noisemakers instead.”

The nannies over at the CDC are also urging folks to view the game with others virtually or only with immediate family, even suggesting ways you can go about enjoying the game when avoiding other people …

I’m surprised the CDC didn’t use their platform to protest the Chiefs’ name and the tomahawk chop.

JOANNE JACOBS: Academic high school is too elite (and Asian) for SF.

After denaming 44 schools — including Abraham Lincoln High — for historical imperfections, San Francisco school board is fast-tracking a plan to end merit-based admissions for Lowell High School, one of the top high schools in California, reports David Li for NBC News.

The board is on track to approve a resolution to admit students to Lowell (which will be renamed) by lottery, rather than grades and test scores. Selectivity “perpetuates the culture of white supremacy and racial abuse towards Black and Latinx students,” states the resolution.

The real issue is Chinese supremacy. Of Lowell’s 2,871 students, 50.6 percent are Asian, mostly Chinese, in a district that’s 33.4 percent Asian, reports Li.

They’ll destroy Lowell because that’s what leftists do.

THEY’RE EVEN NOTICING AT THE NEW YORK TIMES: The Left’s Vaccine Problem:

Early in the pandemic, countries with populist, right-wing governments were suffering some of the worst outbreaks. These countries had big differences from one another — the list included Brazil, Britain, Russia and the U.S. — but their problems all stemmed partly from leaders who rejected scientific expertise.

More progressive and technocratic countries — with both center-left and center-right leaders, like Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea — were doing a better job containing the pandemic. The pattern seemed to make sense: Politicians who believed in the ability of bureaucracies to accomplish complex jobs were succeeding at precisely that.

But over the last few weeks, as vaccination has become a top priority, the pattern has changed. Progressive leaders in much of the world are now struggling to distribute coronavirus vaccines quickly and efficiently:

Europe’s vaccination rollout “has descended into chaos,” as Sylvie Kauffmann of Le Monde, the French newspaper, has written. One of the worst performers is the Netherlands, which has given a shot to less than 2 percent of residents.

Canada (at less than 3 percent) is far behind the U.S. (about 8.4 percent).

Within the U.S., many Democratic states — like California, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York and tiny Rhode Island — are below the national average. “The parts of the country that pride themselves on taking Covid seriously and believing in government are not covering themselves in glory,” The Times’s Ezra Klein has written.

At the same time, there are clear success stories in places that few people would describe as progressive.

Alaska and West Virginia have the two highest vaccination rates among U.S. states, with Oklahoma and the Dakotas also above average. Globally, Israel and the United Arab Emirates have the highest rates. Britain — run by Boris Johnson, a populist Conservative — has vaccinated more than 15 percent of residents.

Well, historically the left is better at confiscating things and issuing orders. The right is better at getting good things in the hands of the people. “A common problem seems to be a focus on process rather than on getting shots into arms. Some progressive leaders are effectively sacrificing efficiency for what they consider to be equity. . . . Some blue states have also created intricate rules about who qualifies for a vaccine and then made a big effort to keep anybody else from getting a shot.”

HOW LONG BEFORE DEMOCRATIC INCOMPETENCE PRODUCES A RETURN OF THE “AMERICA IS UNGOVERNABLE” TROPE? NOT LONG.

SICILY DROP ZONE: An Army paratrooper lands in the Sicily Drop Zone at Fort Bragg, N.C., during non-tactical airborne operation. Photo taken Dec. 3, 2020. This Special Operations post from 2010 is dated, but still has relevant background information on military parachutes. The T-11 ATPS (Advanced Tactical Parachute System) mentioned in the Special Ops update was initially billed as “a parachute for big guys.” Here’s a photo of an open T-11, taken from below the parachute and paratrooper. Note the square canopy.

THERE ARE CERTAIN SECTIONS OF NEW YORK THAT I WOULDN’T ADVISE YOU TO INVADE:

SCHLICHTER: Trump Moves Out of the White House and into Their Heads.

Left to their own devices, the Establishment fails. Left to their own devices, the spotlight falls on them, and when that happens people see.

The truth is that they want Trump. They need Trump. They cannot let him go. Trump truly is the greatest real estate magnate ever, since he owns all the space inside the Establishment’s bloated heads.

You can see it as they insist on going forward with their Lucy n’ the football impeachment, which will end in failure and Trump’s exoneration. Forty-five Republicans have already pointed out the obvious – you can’t impeach someone who is not in office.

Plus, the impeachment itself is a substantive joke. As the president’s brief points out, more politely, it was written by bad lawyers like my loser congressjerk Ted Lieu and Eric Swalwell, who should stick to flatulence, being scammed by Chi Com doxies, and other tasks that he is actually good at.

Heh™ and Read the Whole Thing™.

I’d be much more likely to believe that Biden beat Trump in a popular vote landslide if he or anyone in his administration or one single Democrat on Capitol Hill behaved as though Biden had beat Trump in a popular vote landslide.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG? In the Mideast, Biden Returns to Abnormal.

Joe Biden implicitly campaigned on Warren G. Harding’s 1920 promise of “a return to normalcy.” But his administration is returning to Barack Obama’s abnormal Middle East strategy. A normal policy would respect the fundamental commandment of sound statecraft: Strengthen friends and punish enemies. It would distinguish between them by asking two simple questions: Which states have tended to shelter comfortably under the American power umbrella? And which have instead sought to destroy the American order? Israel, Turkey and the Gulf states, led by Saudi Arabia, have functioned as pillars of the postwar American order. By contrast, for the past 40 years Iran has tirelessly opposed the American security system.

Three details of Iran’s strategic position could make it more dangerous in the near future. First, the Persian Gulf contains five of the world’s 10 largest proven oil reserves, and Iran threatens to dominate the region. Second, Tehran is increasingly allied with both Russia and China. Third, outreach to Iran by the U.S. has deeply angered most of America’s Middle Eastern allies.

A normal policy would seek to contain Iran. Every president since Jimmy Carter regarded Iran as a threat—except Mr. Obama. His flagship policy was the Joint Cooperative Plan of Action, to which Mr. Biden is dedicated to return. The JCPOA won’t contain Iran. Its sunset clauses create a clear path for Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. By lifting sanctions, it supplies the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with cash.

And speaking of a return to abnormal in the Middle East: Biden’s New Asst Sec of State Worked for Islamic Terror State That Funds Hamas.

‘URBAN CAMPING’ MIGHT BE THE STUPIDEST EUPHEMISM CURRENTLY IN VOGUE: Reinstatement of Austin Camping Ban Makes May 1 Ballot. “An Austin City Council who respected common sense and the will of citizens would go ahead and repeal the camping ban, so that will never happen. Instead expect a vicious campaign from Mayor Steve Adler, Austin City Councilman Greg Casar and the other advocates of the Homeless Industrial Complex to smear those backing reinstatement of the ban as ‘white supremacists’ (the reflexive go-to smear for the the hard left in 2021) and wanting homeless people to die.”
