UNEXPECTEDLY: Media stops covering FL COVID data because DeSantis’ downtrend threatens lockdown politics. “It’s seems so odd that the media holds Ron DeSantis personally responsible for a surge in COVID cases in Florida in the summer but feel no need to mention a rapid 50% case decline in the fall, doesn’t it?”
Related: The unintentionally funny anti-DeSantis COVID ad. “This ad from the PAC, ‘Remove Ron,’ is so comically overwrought that it can only be a moneymaking venture. This isn’t what you run if you’re looking to persuade swing voters. This is what you run when you’re looking to make bank off of Very Online members of ‘the Resistance’ with too much disposable income. First you get their attention, then you get them stimulated by attacking their political hate objects, then you get their cash. Watch, then read on:”

THE NEW SPACE RACE: Blue Origin employees say they wouldn’t feel safe riding the company’s rockets and that it’s ‘lucky that nothing has happened.’
Jeff Bezos, who founded the company in 2000, launched to the edge of space aboard its New Shepard rocket in July. Since that flight, Blue Origin has opened ticket sales, and four customers are scheduled to launch on October 12. But the new letter says that Blue Origin’s leadership has ignored employees’ safety concerns in favor of “making progress for Jeff” and accelerating New Shepard’s launch schedule.
The only named author on the letter is Alexandra Abrams, who used to head Blue Origin’s employee communications. She published the essay on the website Lioness on Thursday but said that 20 other current and former Blue Origin employees cowrote it. None of those coauthors were named, but CBS News has spoken with five of them. The letter also made claims of a culture of sexism, harassment, and intolerance to dissent at Blue Origin.
New Shepard has flown successfully 15 times without people on board and once with passengers, when Bezos went. The rocket has an emergency system that can jettison the passenger capsule away from a failing rocket if necessary.
But, the letter said: “In the opinion of an engineer who has signed on to this essay, ‘Blue Origin has been lucky that nothing has happened so far.’ Many of this essay’s authors say they would not fly on a Blue Origin vehicle.”
Two former Blue Origin employees confirmed to CBS News that they would not feel comfortable riding a Blue Origin spacecraft.
The open letter said that safety was “the driving force” behind the decision to publish for many of its coauthors. It also said that in 2018, when someone new took over one particular team, the manager discovered that the team had documented “more than 1,000 problem reports” related to the company’s rocket engines. None of those reports had been addressed, the letter said.
Going into space is inherently dangerous and not for everyone — not even everyone who works for a space company.
But this letter, if correct, makes it plain that Blue Origin has a toxic corporate culture that has become a safety problem.

K-12 IMPLOSION UPDATE: Ed Secy. Miguel Cardona Won’t Say Parents Are ‘Primary’ Stakeholders in Children’s Education.
During a hearing of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions, Braun asked Cardona, “Do you think parents should be in charge of their child’s education as the primary stakeholder?”
“I believe parents are important stakeholders –” Cardona began, and, after Braun reminded him he asked if they are “primary” stakeholders, continued, “but I also believe educators have a role in determining educational programming.”
“I think that’s going to be a little out of focus,” Braun said. “I think you’re going to find, across all elements of education, since they pay the bills, raise the kids. They probably need to be the primary spokespeople for their own kids.”
Cardona’s comments came just two days after former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) caused a firestorm on social media following his remark, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.”
Cardona and McAuliffe’s statements are Comcast approved:
STARTING FROM ZERO, THE ETERNAL RECURRENCE: Portland’s Cultural Council will not replace statues of Teddy Roosevelt, Lincoln knocked down by Antifa.
So, yes, Roosevelt, Washington and Lincoln are now all considered too racist to be celebrated in public, at least in Portland. RACC hasn’t decided what will happen to the statues yet. They’ve been in storage for nearly a year. For now the city still owns them but the group could decide to sell them off to fund new projects “representing more diverse cultural identities and histories.”
Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama could not be reached for comment.

NBA: 1, DNC-MSM: Ø. NBA players blow up the media’s anti-vaxxer stereotypes.
Isaac is rejecting the atmosphere of division, the idea that anyone who’s unvaccinated is deserving of scorn from the desks at CNN, as well as ostracization from polite society by employers, friends and family. Division is the lingua franca of the national media — and Isaac isn’t speaking it. Legitimate medical diagnoses are being lumped in with QAnon Facebook conspiracists. That leads nowhere good.
Jonathan Isaac [of the Orlando Magic] seems to understand this. It’s worth asking why our media and political leaders choose to ignore it.
As Jim Treacher wrote on Wednesday in response to Isaac, “When you calmly and patiently explain your reasoning, and your opponents scream for you to lose your job, it doesn’t make me want to side with the screamers. So, what happens when more athletes and celebrities refuse to comply with these mandates? How are the authoritarians going to stop other prominent Americans from dissenting like this? Shaming them isn’t working. ‘Because I said so’ isn’t working. Banning them from social media to silence them isn’t working. Step 1 would be to drag Fauci away from the cameras and replace him with someone who’s trustworthy, but he craves fame too much for that to happen.”

IT’S CALLED MECTERIVIN! “Phenomenal”: Merck’s new COVID therapeutic may be a gamechanger. Just kidding: “Molnupiravir is a pill. And its effect isn’t so modest. . . . The pill was offered in trials exclusively to unvaccinated people who’d already begun experiencing symptoms as many as five days earlier, giving the virus a considerable head start on generating a severe infection. Even so, no one who received the drug died. And it was effective against multiple variants, including Delta. It’s Tamiflu for COVID, essentially.”
FLORIDA VOTERS OPPOSE BIDEN’S VACCINE MANDATE: “Florida voters are opposed to a key consequence of President Biden’s Vaccine Mandate. VCreek asked, ‘Should the Biden Administration be allowed to create a workplace regulation that could result in people being fired from their job for not getting vaccinated?’ Fifty-four percent of Florida Voters indicated ‘No’ and 43% indicated ‘Yes.’
Earlier: Chris Cuomo is a Symptom of CNN’s Disease:
Why should Chris Cuomo be kept on the air in such a high-profile time slot, given his history of lying to his superiors, staging fake COVID stunts, smearing sexual harassment accusers as liars on behalf of his brother, and now an on-the-record admission and apology for groping a colleague in a public setting in front of her husband? CNN could put a woman, even a woman of color, into that time slot effortlessly, and yet refuse to do so. The reason is simple — CNN believes Chris Cuomo is a star, and when you’re a star, CNN lets you get away with it.
That’s why Jeff Zucker turned a blind eye to Donald Trump when he was at NBC and The Apprentice and that’s what Zucker and CNN are doing now with Chris Cuomo. Perhaps the pattern of bad behavior does not simply begin and end with Cuomo, but with the executive and the network that continue to enable it.
And that’s why Cuomo is interviewing the guy who captured an alligator, rather than discussing his own increasing amounts of baggage.

NANCY PELOSI’S TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD WEEK: Pelosi’s Little Big Horn.
Democrats have discovered something worse than having a septuagenarian as president: having an octogenarian as House speaker.
Nancy Pelosi just suffered a week from hell. (Unkind people would say a taste of her future.)
First, Joe Manchin stopped if only temporarily her party’s Only Fans donors spendathon. In response, the AOC (Already Openly Communist) Crowd stopped the bipartisan Only Everyone’s Donors spendathon.
Related: The Left Loses Another Messaging War.
Having spent months searing the number $3.5 trillion into American minds, however, Democrats have suddenly made a 180-degree turn to the idea that this gargantuan spending bill will actually cost nothing at all.
This week, Joe Biden contended that his agenda actually “costs zero dollars.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi picked up the baton: “It’s not about a dollar amount,” she said, “the dollar amount, as the president said, is zero. This bill will be paid for.” This new tactic is both economically illiterate and strategically unsound.
The White House’s new contention is that there is no “cost” to this mammoth proposal because it would add nothing to the national debt. That is nonsense, of course. No independent analysis supports the Democratic Party’s largely conjectural claim. It is only feasible insofar as it relies on the idea that economic growth will offset its costs, and a future Congress may turn off the spending spigot this bill would unleash. If Democrats were so secure in its projections, its members would not have conspicuously avoided submitting their plan to the Congressional Budget Office to determine its impact on the debt and deficit before they hope to vote on it.
The is the ultimate outcome of Bill Clinton’s Orwellian attempt starting in 1992 to conflate spending taxpayer money with “investments.”
