HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: Colleges are now closing at a pace of one a week. What happens to the students? Most never finish their degrees, and graduates wonder about the value of degrees they’ve earned. “So many colleges are folding that some students who moved from one to another have now found that their new school will also close, often with little or no warning. Some of the students at Newbury, when it closed in 2019, had moved there from nearby Mount Ida College, for example, which shut down the year before.
Most students at colleges that close give up on their educations altogether. Fewer than half transfer to other institutions, a SHEEO study found. Of those, fewer than half stay long enough to get degrees. Many lose credits when they move from one school to another and have to spend longer in college, often taking out more loans to pay for it. The rest join the growing number of Americans — now more than 40 million, according to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center — who spent time and money to go to college but never finished. . . . The closings follow an enrollment decline of 14 percent in the decade through 2022, the most recent period for which the figures are available from the Education Department. A decline of as much as 15 percent is projected to begin next year.”

If only there had been some sort of warning offered.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: Northwestern U. dean joins anti-Israel rally organized by far-left student groups.

UPDATE: Eugene Volokh queried the Dean in question and received this response:

As Dean of Students, I regularly attend student demonstrations on campus, to ensure the safety of our community. I been to dozens of demonstrations on a variety of topics over the years, as have other members of our Student Affairs team.
My role at these demonstrations is not as a participant or supporter, but as an observer to ensure safety and well-being of the entire community, including those who might be targeted by the protest.
When asked by the student newspaper why I was there I told them this as well, but that part of my quote was not included in the article.
Monday’s demonstration was held by a number of student groups representing a variety of issues.
I, and the University, strongly supports Hillel, which is vital to the Northwestern community.
The University is investigating whether the statements about Hillel that were in the flyer distributed Monday violate our Code of Conduct or Northwestern’s discrimination and harassment policies.

So there you have her side of the story.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: Harvard Business School Prof. Gino Accused of Plagiarism Following Data Fraud Allegations. “According to Science, Gino “borrowed text” from dozens of academic sources. The plagiarism allegations add to a growing number of academic fraud accusations against Gino, as well as recent scrutiny on the integrity of scholarly work produced by Harvard professors and affiliates.”

Plus: “The new plagiarism allegations join a list of data manipulation claims against Gino. Last June, Data Colada — a data integrity blog run by three business school professors — publicly accused Gino of data manipulation in at least four papers. Gino was subsequently barred from campus, stripped of her endowed faculty title, and notified that her tenure was under review for revocation. Harvard conducted an internal investigation of the allegations, producing a nearly 1,300-page report that determined Gino was responsible for the alleged misconduct and recommended her termination. Gino has fiercely maintained her innocence.”
