SHAUN MAGUIRE: I just donated $300k to Trump. I’m prepared to lose friends. Here’s why.

Back in 2016 I had drunk the media Kool-Aid and was scared out of my mind about Trump. As such I donated to Hilary Clinton’s campaign and voted for her.

By 2020 I was disillusioned and didn’t vote – I didn’t like either option.

Now, in 2024, I believe this is one of the most important elections of my lifetime, and I’m supporting Trump.

I know that I’ll lose friends for this. Some will refuse to do business with me. The media will probably demonize me, as they have so many others before me. But despite this, I still believe it’s the right thing to do.

I refuse to live in a society where people are afraid to speak.

YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T SEE THIS STORY ON THE NEWS:

The BBC had to put an anti-citizen spin on its report, naturally: German anti-Islam activist injured in knife attack.

UPDATE: The tweet has been deleted, sorry.

IT’S A STRAIGHT LINE FROM THE J6 PERSECUTIONS TO TRUMP: It Could Happen to You.

FASTER, PLEASE: As SpaceX Completes Second Starship WDR, FAA Conducts Safety Investigation Into Flight 3.

The vehicle was successfully detanked, and the stack was unstacked just a day later for final preparations before launch. On the previous flight, there were ten days between the WDR and launch, so a potential launch window as early as Wednesday, June 5, seems feasible.

A capability observed during this test was a 30-minute hold close to T-0. Several indicators showed that the vehicle was below the T-1 minute mark before the hold occurred. At that point, the vehicle remained in a steady state for 30 minutes before the DSS was activated, and the depress vents concluded the test.

It is unclear if this capability is planned and also possible during flight, but it might hint that SpaceX currently has the capability to hold the vehicle for 30 minutes at the very end of the countdown. This is a capability that the company’s previous vehicle, Falcon 9, does not possess.

In addition to hardware readiness, regulatory readiness remains an important item for Flight 4 of Starship. Since Starship triggered a mishap, based on FAA guidelines, a mishap investigation was initiated for Flight 3, grounding the vehicle until completion.

The “faster, please” was addressed to the FAA.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Seditious Manhattan Jury Shows What a ‘Threat to Democracy’ Looks Like. “Being kind of Zen about politics has been my thing for several years now. Kevin Downey Jr. told me that it freaks him out when I get angry about the news. When the verdict came in on Thursday afternoon it was exactly what I thought it would be, yet I still got a little wound up.”

ANALYSIS: TRUE.

Democrats have been playing as though they don’t expect their new rules ever to apply to them. That expectation needs to be changed.

WOEING: 3-hour meeting ends with FAA saying Boeing can’t increase Max plane production until quality is fixed.

“This is a guide for a new way for Boeing to do business,” FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker said after the meeting. He said he expected the company to produce “systemic change.”

Going forward, Boeing and FAA leaders said they will meet weekly on progress implementing the plan and the FAA will conduct monthly reviews.

The plan includes several components to improve employee training, clarify instructions for assembly line employees, prevent suppliers from shipping defective components to Boeing and go through additional FAA audits, the agency said.

The FAA had ordered outgoing Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun and his aides to develop the roadmap after two reviews in February found serious issues at the planemaker.

The meeting included Calhoun and other leaders at the company, the FAA said. Whitaker said the meeting included an “extensive PowerPoint presentation that broke the plan into components.”

Whitaker said he expects the company to build “robust” safety and quality management plans. He said the FAA will not allow Boeing to increase the number of planes coming off of its Max assembly line each month until it is satisfied on production quality.

“I don’t think it will happen in the next few months,” Whitaker said.

It remains to be seen whether working under close government scrutiny will help or hurt.

BIDENOMICS IS WORKING: Here Comes the Re-Recession? “In a very short span of time, barely 24 hours, my news feed became populated with stories about how maybe the Biden economy — Bidenomics, as the White House quit calling it out of embarrassment months ago — might not be so great, after all.”

GRADUALLY AND THEN SUDDENLY: How ‘Vice’ Went from a $6 Billion Media Empire to Bankruptcy.

The walls of Vice’s sprawling Brooklyn headquarters were lined with magazine covers charting the company’s transformation from insouciant Canadian post-punk magazine to money-printing media colossus. In early 2018, long before college students discovered that dispatching problematic statues into canals would be reliably met with institutional approval, a group of employees demanded that the covers be removed from the walls.

Not a specific cover. All of them.

The supposed offense varied by complainant. Some referenced covers shot by the recently defenestrated photographer Terry Richardson, an occasional Vice contributor accused of using his position to sexually harass his subjects. Or maybe it was the half-ironic “We Love Cops” cover, a sentiment inconceivable to a generation uncomfortable with both irony and the police. But likely it just was the general unease of working for a publication that once lived up to its name, proudly embracing sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll.

The covers were swiftly removed, now sequestered in co-founder Suroosh Alvi’s basement office, where a number of longtime Vice employees gathered to express a collective incredulity. “The resistance starts now,” one of them said hopefully. But we all saw it for what it was: a surrender.

Vice used to be fun. Then it went woke and… you know the rest.
