VODKAPUNDIT PRESENTS YOUR DAILY INSANITY WRAP: Six Weeks Since Biden Saw His Shadow and He Still Hasn’t Come Back Out.

Insanity Wrap needs to know: How can you tell that Joe Biden has gone yet another record-setting day without an initial press conference?

Answer: POLITICO is spinning it as a “largely gaffe-free White House.”

Before we get to the sordid details, a quick preview of today’s Wrap.

  • Seattle responds to police shortage with additional budget cuts
  • Hysterical video of the White House playing musical step-stools at the presidential lectern
  • Female soldiers are just as good as male soldiers unless they don’t have to be

Bonus Sanity: 13th Gen — Abort, Retry, Save the World?

And so much more at the link, you’d have to be crazy to miss it.

IT’S A BUST THEN: For Texas Dems, It’s Beto or Bust Against Abbott in ’22. “Texas Democrats need O’Rourke because they have no one else who can beat Abbott, a well-known political figure with a huge campaign fund and formidable grassroots army. O’Rourke would also be likely to lose to Abbott, but would give Democrats a credible candidate who can raise money, develop and deploy a volunteer army and — for the first time since 2014 — force Abbott to focus on his reelection bid, instead of using his considerable resources to help down-ballot Republicans.”

What’s really going on here is O’Rourke’s enduring appeal to progressives, and Democrats’ ongoing, long-term effort to turn Texas blue.

PRIORITIES: Biden’s ‘Rescue Plan’ Will Sic the IRS on Anyone Who Earns $600 in the Gig Economy.

Buried inside the 600-page bill that’s ostensibly meant to provide pandemic relief is a provision requiring gig economy platforms to report information to the IRS about all users who earn at least $600 in a year. Previously, platforms were only required to provide the IRS with information on users who made at least 200 transactions or earned at least $2,000.

The tightening of the reporting requirements means a lot more paperwork and tax compliance requirements for platforms. It also means more tax headaches for anyone who might use those platforms to earn a little extra cash. Anyone earning a sizable income via rental properties on Airbnb was already covered by the old rules, meaning this change will only affect low earners. Now, even the sale of a single expensive piece of old furniture on eBay or running deliveries for Uber Eats in your spare time might trigger the new reporting requirements.

Big Government, Goodfellas style.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: The Washington Post Kills Puppies When You’re Not Looking. “The mainstream media in the United States of America has been openly cheerleading for Democrats for well over half a century now. If any of the people who participate in this propaganda party want me to back that up I’d be more than happy to lock them in a room and force them to read my body of work on the subject that spans more than two decades. They’ll still deny their complicity in pimping the Democratic narrative but we will have at least kept them away from inflicting harm on our freedom for a while.”

VODKAPUNDIT PRESENTS YOUR DAILY INSANITY WRAP: Even the New York Times Can’t Hide the Truth About Florida and COVID.

Insanity Wrap needs to know: If the New York Times reports good news about Florida’s re-opening, is the news still good?

Answer: Yes!

Before we get to the sordid details, a quick preview of today’s Wrap.

  • Oregon Democrats introduce insane reparations bill
  • Andrew Cuomo translated for the deaf and sophomoric
  • Dictionary.com didn’t change its name to Newspeak.com, but maybe it won’t be long

Bonus Sanity: It’s right there in the headline for once.

And so much more at the link, you’d have to be crazy to miss it.

PRIORITIES: NY’s ‘Vaccine Czar’ Conducted Loyalty Checks On County Officials After Scandals Erupted. “If this Washington Post report is accurate, Larry Schwartz took the ‘czar’ part of his job title seriously. After several women accused Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment and misconduct, Schwartz started calling the county officials that worked with him on the COVID-19 pandemic to check their loyalty to the Love Gov. Now the state’s vaccine czar faces a pending ethics complaint, and New Yorkers have to wonder just how far Cuomo’s bullying goes.”

SPACE: Air Force considers SpaceX Starlink for military applications.

Communications capability is a big deal on aircraft of all sorts, but particularly for military aircraft. A new report suggests that the United States Air Force is considering SpaceX’s Starlink Internet connectivity for its potential military applications. One of the major contractors to the United States Air Force, Ball Aerospace, builds “conformal antennas” for tactical aircraft used by the USAF.

Ball Aerospace is working with SpaceX to investigate if Starlink satellite Internet connectivity might have military applications. Word of the Air Force considering Starlink came in a recent request SpaceX made with the FCC. The request said that SpaceX is seeking to make modifications to its experimental authorization for additional testing activities to be undertaken with the federal government.

Left unsaid: With up to 42,000 satellites (not a typo) in orbit once completed, Starlink comms ought to be fairly robust against enemy attack.
