REARMAMENT: Germany decides to buy F-35, in major reversal of announced plans.

Previously, “Berlin had not only taken a strong political stance against F-35 and sacked the former head of the Luftwaffe for publicly supporting its acquisition, but had also previously refused to engage with practical discussions of any kind around the operational delivery of the DCA [dual capable aircraft] mission,” he said. “This is a clear sign that all that has now changed.”

The news was cause for celebration for Lockheed Martin, as the F-35 has now won every fighter contest it had entered, with Germany previously standing alone as the sole holdout.

Russia’s failure to gain air superiority over Ukraine (!) proves my long-held assumption that stealth is the price of admission to the modern battlespace — and it’s finally a price even Germany’s parsimonious Ministry of Defense is willing to pay.

CHANGE: Michele Tafoya Leaves the Sports Plantation. “Americans are tired of being bullied by the left and exhausted by constant accusations of systemic racism. In fact, this is the least racist period in our country’s history. My parents and grandparents would have loved to have grown up in the America I grew up in. We are not going to be the generation that lost America. We are going to be the generation that saved it, restored it and passed it onto the next generation.”

KEVIN DOWNEY JR: Put a Fork in Seattle. “I grew up in the Motor City and I have no sympathy for what used to be Seattle. Detroit’s death was drawn out over years and involved a perfect storm of nonsense, including foolish decisions by auto execs, stupid import/export laws, and a corrupt mayor named Coleman A. Young. Detroit languished. Seattle was executed.”

THE POWER OF THE PODCAST: Few Politicians Have Appeared on Joe Rogan’s Podcast. But Data Shows They Should Be Targeting His Fans.

Politicians, especially Democrats, have largely eschewed appearances on Joe Rogan’s chart-topping Spotify podcast, where the elevation of bigoted rhetoric and COVID-19 denialism has thrust him into the center of America’s cultural and political fissures.

But despite these controversies — or perhaps because of them — the Ultimate Fighting Championship commentator has amassed an enormous and loyal audience for his show, “The Joe Rogan Experience.” New Morning Consult research of self-described “avid” Rogan fans reveals a following that leans Republican, though many say the cohort could also be receptive to a Democratic message.

“If the Democrats aren’t going to go to working-class voters, Republicans will, and they do, and that’s what happens on a lot of these types of shows,” said Briahna Joy Gray, who worked as national press secretary for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign. Referring to the left’s comfort with the personalities of the safe Democratic airwaves of MSNBC, she said, “America isn’t filled with Michael Steeles, Rachel Maddows or Nicolle Wallaces.”

Plus: “An analysis of Americans who described themselves as avid Rogan fans found a group whose average member is younger, more likely to identify as Republican and less likely to be white than the average nonfan.”

I had been assured that younger, nonwhite people were the future of the Democrat party.

A LOT CAN GO WRONG – FOR EITHER SIDE – IN TEN DAYS: General Says Putin Days Away From Critical Point Where War Could Turn. “The Russians, I think, are about ten days away from what is called the culminating point, when they just no longer have the ammunition nor the manpower to keep up their assault. I think we keep pouring it on, and the Russians culminate.”

RICHARD FERNANDEZ: The Last Party in Davos 2019. “Who could have predicted that, three years later, the president of Afghanistan would have been driven out of the country by the Taliban, the global Covid pandemic would have displaced concerns over antimicrobial resistance, President Joe Biden would be begging Saudi Arabia and Venezuela for oil, Europe would be reviving nuclear power and coal, there would be worries over famine in the Middle East, and NATO would be on the brink of war with Russia invading Ukraine. The in-person 2021 Davos meeting itself would be canceled due to the Covid pandemic.”

JOE BIDEN DID THAT: Catastrophic Inflation: ‘I’ve Never Seen Prices Jump This High, This Fast.’ “This is what the early chapters of an inflationary meltdown look like. Last week, we were informed that ‘consumer prices were 7.9% higher in February than a year ago,’ and that was being touted as the highest figure ‘in 40 years.’ Of course, those that follow my website regularly already know that the reality is much worse than that. If the inflation rate was still calculated the way that it was back in 1980, it would be over 15 percent right now.”

At this point in 1980, the federal funds interest rate was nearly 20% as the Fed at least tried to tame inflation.

“The current federal funds rate as of March 11, 2022 is 0.08%.“
